Harry Reid explains why you should vote for Sharron Angle as Sarah Palin, no doubt, laughs (video)

I have no doubt Sarah Palin, like the rest of the majority of America, finds this ironically amusing because this just makes the Dems look weak, unorganized, cowardly, and unwilling to take a stand for principles they plainly believe in:

The facts Harry Reid and the Democrat party runs away from…

H/T to
Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion.

In 1993… Harry Reid, when it served his purposes,  revealed socialist-opposing truth …as he did a few days ago stating opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque, and in no uncertain terms:  that the present day Socialist meme, that Opposition to the 14th Amendment is Conservative Racism,  is transparent socialist self-serving propaganda.

Dohhh…

I’m running out of popcorn watching the socialists’ circular firing squad.

    Why He Turns Voters Off

Voters are tired of the president pursuing policies they don’t want, and he’ll find out just how much in November. Douglas E. Schoen on the message in the latest polls-and how Obama can turn it around.

There is a fundamental problem with the way President Obama has governed.

Since taking office, he has systematically put forth policies the American people do not want. The net result is a crisis of confidence and legitimacy in the American political system and our institutions.

    No.

She (An American, sitting house speaker!) wants a probe into why Americans are paying to get their opinions heard to stop this building?????

Pelosi Suggests Probe of Funding Sources Behind Opposition to Mosque Near Ground Zero

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is suggesting a coordinated effort is behind the opposition to a proposed mosque and community center near Ground Zero, saying the whole dispute has been “ginned up” for political purposes and she supports a probe into those opponents.

Commenting publicly for the first time on the Park 51 project, Pelosi said the issue was posing a distraction and that some organized force is behind it.

“There is no question that there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some,” she said in remarks posted Tuesday in a video on the San Francisco Chronicle website. “And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque (is) being funded.”

On Wednesday, Pelosi’s office clarified that the speaker is not calling for a “congressional inquiry,” though she still supports looking into the funding of the mosque’s opponents as well as its patrons.

“I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the (Anti-Defamation League) that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.
Pelosi first weighed in Tuesday after both President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid expressed their views on the project that has touched off a national debate about religious freedom and political correctness. Obama said Wednesday he has no regrets over his remarks that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in the U.S. A day later, he claimed that he wasn’t endorsing the specifics of the mosque plan.

Polls show that a strong majority of Americans oppose the mosque’s construction site while respecting the right of Muslims to practice their religion.

Though Obama and Reid appeared to be on opposite ends of the spectrum over the issue, Pelosi came out agnostic, saying the dispute over what she described as a “zoning issue” needs to be decided by New Yorkers.

“I think everybody respects the right of everyone in the country to express their religious beliefs. … The decision, though, as to how to go forward in New York, is up to New York,” Pelosi told local reporters in San Francisco. “I look to my colleagues in New York. Some of them have different views on the subject. It’s up to them to work it out.”

That may have been the position Obama was trying to take when he first weighed in Friday during a Ramadan dinner at the White House. The president appeared to support the mosque project, but the White House later clarified that he was underscoring the developers’ right to build the center — not endorsing it outright.

Reid afterward came out in opposition to the project. A strong majority of Americans say they oppose the site for construction of the mosque, but not the constitutional right of Muslims to worship.

A Republican aide ridiculed Pelosi’s claim that there was a “conspiracy” to oppose the project.

“If the speaker needs help finding the heart of the ‘GOP GZM Conspiracy,’ I urge her to ask Sasquatch,” the aide told Fox News. “His office is behind the black helicopter hangar between the unicorn pen and the leprechaun’s pot of gold.”

David Malpass, a New York Republican candidate seeking the Sept. 14 primary nomination to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in November, issued a statement Wednesday saying Pelosi should be investigating foreign funding for the project.

“But instead she is turning her ire on concerned Americans, including families, firefighters and other first responders who care deeply about this issue. What she is doing is unconscionable,” Malpass said. “New Yorkers deserve better, the heroes of September 11th deserve better, and I’m calling on Kirsten Gillibrand to immediately reject Speaker Pelosi’s misguided and insensitive remarks.”

A few lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have tried to dial down tensions over the debate.

New York Gov. David Paterson has renewed efforts to broker a deal over the project. After offering his help and the possibility that state land could be used for an alternative site, a Paterson spokesman told The Wall Street Journal that staff members are working with the developers. He said no “formal discussions” have taken place involving Paterson, but that a meeting will be set for the “near future.”

However, project organizers denied there was any consideration being given to moving the mosque. A written statement from the Cordoba Initiative, the group pushing to build the Islamic center in lower Manhattan, said no meetings have been scheduled between Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf and Paterson, “nor have there been any communications between the offices of Cordoba Initiative and the governor.”

Sharif El-Gamal of SoHo Properties, which owns the property at Park 51, said it’s absolutely wrong to suggest that the site is being abandoned.

But a firefighter who is suing to prevent the existing site — a former Burlington Coat Factory — from being demolished filed a revised lawsuit Friday against the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, saying the developers don’t even own the site outright but shares ownership with the public utility company, ConEdison.

“The revelation that a public utility owns part of the site raises a whole host of new legal questions and requires the involvement of a new public agency and possibly additional public hearings. That, coupled with the Landmarks Commission’s procedural violations and deviations from administrative precedent, only strengthens our legal challenge,” said attorney Jay Sekulow, chief counsel at the American Center for Law and Justice.

Mideast tour for imam of proposed mosque near ground zero to cost taxpayers $16,000

    Published August 18, 2010

WASHINGTON – American taxpayers will pay the imam behind plans for a mosque near the Manhattan site of the Sept. 11 attacks $3,000 in fees for a three-nation outreach trip to the Middle East that will cost roughly $16,000, the State Department said Wednesday.

The department said Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf will get a daily $200 honorarium for the 15-day tour to Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, which is intended to promote religious tolerance.

Airfare is included, as well as the standard federal government per diem for expenses and lodging in each of the cities he will visit, spokesman P.J. Crowley said. Those per diem rates range from nearly $400 to nearly $500, according to official documents.

The imam’s organization, The Cordoba Initiative, referred questions on the matter to the State Department.

Rauf starts his tour Thursday in Bahrain and ends it in the United Arab Emirates Sept. 2. At each stop he is expected to discuss Muslim life in America and promote religious tolerance. He will not be allowed to raise funds for the mosque on the trip, Crowley said.
“We have had conversations with the imam to make sure he understands that during these kinds of trips, he’s not to engage in any personal business,” Crowley told reporters. “He understands that completely.”

“We value his participation as a religious figure here in the United States who can help people overseas understand the role that religion plays in our society,” he said.

Rauf’s tour has drawn attention because of his plans to build an Islamic center in lower Manhattan near ground zero. Foes of the project say it is insensitive and disrespectful to the victims of 9/11 and their families. The debate has become politicized ahead of November’s midterm congressional elections.

Crowley said this will be Rauf’s fourth U.S.-government sponsored trip under a program run by the State Department’s Bureau of International Information Programs. Earlier, the State Department had said it was his third trip.

Crowley said Rauf had traveled twice to the Middle East in 2007 during the Bush administration and once earlier this year.

On his upcoming trip, Rauf will be in Manama, Bahrain, from Thursday until Monday; Doha, Qatar, from Aug. 24 to Aug. 27 and in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.

The published maximum per diem rate for U.S. government employees in Manama is $396, in Doha it is $341, and in Abu Dhabi it is $496.

    Charles Krauthammer on Speaker Pelosi:

“Well, I spent the afternoon wrapping my mind around Pelosi’s remark about looking into the finances of those who oppose the mosque saying “I want to join with others.” I’d like to know who the others are? Are any of them not institutionalized? And, then I’m trying to decide if her statement was out of malice or pure lunacy. Being the generous spirit that I am, I am going with lunacy… But the idea that those who (oppose) the mosque are some kind of conspiracy or the funding ought to be looked at is absurd. Look, I oppose the mosque and nobody’s offered me a penny. What am I chopped liver?“

Is Nancy Pelosi making a bid to join Robert Welch, longtime leader of the John Birch Society, as a truly great conspiracy theorist?

It would seem only an inspired paranoic could find it so unaccountably strange — cue the “Twilight Zone” theme music — that there’s a public outcry about a mosque project planned two blocks from Ground Zero that an investigation is in order. But Pelosi senses foul play.

“There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some,” she told KCBS radio in San Francisco late Tuesday. “And I join those who have called for looking into how this opposition to the mosque is being funded.”

The pens of anti-Muslim conservatives impact N.Y.C. mosque debate mightily
    By Michelle Boorstein
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Thursday, August 19, 2010

Long before President Obama waded into the vociferous debate over a mosque near Ground Zero, a group of conservative writers and bloggers critical of Islam had seized on the issue and helped transform it into a national political spectacle.

While some have dismissed them as bigoted attention-seekers, their attacks on the proposed Islamic center in Lower Manhattan have gained currency in recent weeks among some Republican leaders. And their influence appears to be growing.

They are organizing a Sept. 11 rally against the mosque that will feature former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich. They advise the FBI and other government security agencies on the threats posed by Islamic radicalism, headline “tea party” events and attract millions of readers concerned or curious about Islam to Web sites with names such as Jihad Watch, Creeping Sharia and Stop Islamization of America.

“People on the Hill, their staff read these sites, they show their bosses. . . . They push these subjects into the spotlight, often at a time when major media isn’t doing that,” said Cliff May, a columnist and former spokesman for the Republican National Committee who runs a think tank focused on religious extremism and religious freedom.

The most colorful — and perhaps most visible — activist at the moment is Pam Geller, a former New York Observer publisher who has appeared in a bikini and a super-tight Superman costume challenging Islam.

Through her blog, Atlas Shrugs, television interviews and appearances at political rallies, Geller has become one of the chief organizers of opposition to the so-called Ground Zero mosque as well as efforts to build other Muslim prayer centers across the country.

Republican leaders including Sarah Palin, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Gingrich have condemned the $100 million Park 51 Islamic Cultural Center, while Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) have defended it. On Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) added more fuel to the fire by saying she supports an investigation into how opposition to the mosque is being funded.

Geller has become a prominent voice in the debate despite the fact that she once promoted the view that Obama is Malcolm X’s love child. She frequently warns that Muslims are trying to impose repressive sharia law on the United States, refers to the president’s holiday message to Muslims as “Obama Ramadamadingdong” and promotes a Web site, Religion of Peace, that claims to tally the number of people killed around the world by Muslim extremists.
    ad_icon
    Quantcast

In Washington, New York and other cities, she has helped fund controversial taxi ads asking: “Is your family threatening you? leaveislamsafely.com.”

Geller often partners with Robert Spencer, a best-selling writer who is less flamboyant but perhaps more influential.

Spencer, the author of “Stealth Jihad: How Radical Islam Is Subverting America Without Guns or Bombs” and “The Complete Infidel’s Guide to the Koran,” has consulted on Islamic extremism with government security officials, including the U.S. Central Command, the U.S. Army Command, the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to his Web site, Jihad Watch.

The site, which was launched in 2003, had its busiest month ever in July, with 2.9 million visitors, up from 665,000 a year ago, Spencer said.

Jihad Watch is widely read in many quarters in Washington, particularly among conservatives.

Daniel Pipes, perhaps the most prominent U.S. scholar on radical Islam, said he considers Spencer a “serious scholar.”

“I learn from him,” said Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, a conservative think tank.

When Spencer lavished praise on Gingrich this month, the Republican posted it on his Web site.

Gingrich is scheduled to speak at an anti-mosque rally on Sept. 11 being organized by Spencer and Geller. Also scheduled to speak is former U.N. ambassador John Bolton, who wrote the foreword for the pair’s new book about Obama, “The Post-American Presidency.”

Charles Johnson, creator of the national security blog Little Green Footballs, called Spencer and Geller “very influential.” Listening to Gingrich’s comments about Islamic law, he said, “Newt sounded a lot like he got it from Pam Geller.”

    Impact in polls

Their efforts to rally public opinion against the mosque appear to have had an impact.

A Time magazine poll being released Thursday found that nearly seven in 10 Americans are following the story closely and that 61 percent oppose the mosque. The poll also found that 43 percent of Americans hold unfavorable views of Muslims, far outpacing the numbers for Mormons (29 percent), Catholics (17 percent), Jews (13 percent) and Protestants (13 percent). In the poll, 25 percent say most Muslims in the United States are not patriotic Americans.

While the amount of anti-Muslim sentiment hasn’t shifted much since a spate of homegrown terror attacks and the furor over the mosque, Muslim American leaders worry that it could. They accuse the bloggers of fueling religious hatred.

Muslim Americans “are becoming fearful, uncertain, asking, ‘What is the future?’ ” said Akbar Ahmed, a former Pakistani diplomat and current American University professor.

Ahmed believes the shaky economy, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and tension over immigration, combined with the election of the first nonwhite president, have left Americans anxious. “Islam at this moment in time focuses all the intensity and passion,” he said.
    ad_icon
    Quantcast

Brian Levin, a hate-crimes expert who used to work with the Southern Poverty Law Center, said the bloggers gain traction partially because they make points about American Muslim extremism that “the mainstream media consistently ignore.”

In addition to Geller and Spencer, other conservative bloggers who focus on Islam include Debbie Schlussel and Brigitte Gabriel.

In recent months, traffic to their Web sites has spiked. They’ve made more media appearances and have been active in organizing opposition to smaller mosque projects across the country.

Video from June of a rowdy town meeting in Staten Island, N.Y., about a proposed mosque shows Spencer being cheered when he states his name. Those who turned out to oppose the mosque said they heard about the meeting through Geller’s Facebook page.

Asked if his ability to make money — through Web site donations, book sales and speaking appearances — has improved, Spencer said, “It’s changed a lot” but wouldn’t elaborate. He said only that he and Geller were able to raise $50,000 in recent months for their bus and taxi ad campaign.

The topic may be heavy (violent religious extremism, a conspiracy to take down the Constitution), but the tone among the activists and their critics teeters on satire.

A site monitoring the Muslim critics is called Loonwatch. Coblognspiracy theories about murder attempts and bestiality are common on the blogs. People on both sides say they get death threats and can’t disclose where they live.

Asked if he was being deliberately combative and provocative, Spencer chuckled.

“Why not?” he asked. “It’s fun.”

    From Jihad Watch blog…

WaPo changes headline on Geller/Spencer piece to malicious libel

The silly and stupid Washington Post piece on Pamela Geller and me that I discussed here was originally entitled “In flap over mosque near Ground Zero, conservative writers gaining influence.” Now it is called “The pens of anti-Muslim conservatives impact N.Y.C. mosque debate mightily.”

“Anti-Muslim” is a term that Islamic supremacists and their Leftist enablers like to use of people who are fighting for human rights against Sharia — and it’s easy to see why: it frames their opponents as “bigots” and “haters,” takes the focus away from their anti-woman, anti-free speech, anti-free thought, anti-equality of rights agenda, and has the added bonus of stirring up their more bloody-minded coreligionists to violence.

And above all, despite the promiscuous Goebbels-style Big-Lie application of the term to me by the likes of Honest Ibe Hooper of Hamas-linked CAIR and his tool Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, it simply isn’t true. I am not “anti-Muslim.” I am anti-Sharia, anti-jihad, anti-oppression, anti-terror, and so should be every free person. Several years ago I had a memorable exchange with Islamic supremacist blogger Yusuf Smith, a.k.a. “Indigo Jo,” here. I said: “I would like nothing better than a flowering, a renaissance, in the Muslim world, including full equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies: freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, equal employment opportunities, etc.” Yusuf Smith responded: “So, you would like to see us ditch much of our religion and, thereby, become non-Muslims.” In other words, he saw a call for equality of rights for women and non-Muslims in Islamic societies, including freedom of conscience, equality in laws regarding legal testimony, and equal employment opportunities, as a challenge to his religion.

Well, if that’s being “anti-Muslim,” Michelle Boorstein of the Washington Post, if she had a modicum of commitment to human rights, would be “anti-Muslim” also.
