thanks m2. We are having our dog days here and there is nothing better than a slow float on a hot day. the water temp is perfect, almost warm but not quite and so refreshing. And the Kettle is one of the cleanest and biggest rivers in the area. It is the one that people flock to and tubing at this time of year is a favorite activity.
The Columbia is big and beautiful and is actually a lake/resevoir (lake roosevelt) where it is closest to me and it is a very popular tourist destination, but unfortunately it is contaminated and not only that in late summer people who swim in it get swimmer’s itch which I believe they contract from ducks. Ewww…
yea! tubing is cool. I havent gone for years but I enjoyed it.

To stamp out freedom of speech of those ideas we do not agree with is to stamp out our own freedom of speech.
While Rose and I agree on little, politically speaking, we agree to disagree… and that is how, in my view, it should be. I fought the iCry iTrolls on this hammer and tong who sought to silence those with whom they did not agree… and Rosehips backed me up on it and got hammered by many of those radical iTrolls… I will never forget it.

m2, no boat, just floating with the current. It has become almost too slow but there are a few places where there are little rapids but they are pretty gentle compared to what they are earlier in the month or last month. They are still pretty fun and I am not one for it being too dangerous because I have been there and done that and although thrilling, it strains the heart. lol
There unfortunately is really a short season when the water temp and the current coincide.
Ok… back to writing the second blogpost for today… there are so many subjects that are all popping at the same time… drives me nuts to pick one over the other! ARGGGGG!!! lol

sami, lol @ the environmental impact of tubing. Yes everything has an impact. sigh. The tube I have is one I got at a yard sale. It was new in the box and it is made for duck hunting. I used it for the first time last week. It’s pretty deluxe. It has a canvas and nylon outer cover and the inflatable inserts are made of vinyl, I think, which of course is a petroleum product, right? So although I will be traveling on the renewal energy of the Kettle River, my trip will be dependent on petroleum. Thank you for pointing this out. I hadn’t thought of it. God forbid I have a guilt free day on my bd. lol
not to mention the gas I will burn to get up there to the canadian border. haha

He killed the bombers today. So let’s kill health care reform. I know a lot of blacks who are increasingly not happy with him – and many who would not vote for him in the first place. I really believe his base is eroding worse than the polls show.

In a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, for instance, approval of his handling of health care has slid from 57 percent to 49 percent since April. And the Democrats’ foray into taxing the rich hasn’t done Obama any favors, either: Just one month ago, voters earning more than $50,000 liked Obama more than the GOP on health care by a 2-1 margin.
Today, those voters are evenly split. And independent voters — the key to Obama’s electoral success — are leaving the flock. In April, 57 percent of independents approved his handling of health care; that has now dipped to 44 percent, and 49 percent disapprove.
All of which is not catastrophic, but it is a problem. And it’s not a problem the Republicans have created for Obama, although they will no doubt try and take credit. In truth, it’s something the Democrats have done all by themselves. No Republicans needed.

Investigator: Palin Broke Ethics Rules
Report Finds Alaska Gov. Should Not Have Taken Public Donations to Pay Legal Debts through Official Fund
(AP) An independent investigator has found evidence that Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated ethics laws by accepting private donations to pay her legal debts.
The report obtained by The Associated Press says Palin is securing unwarranted benefits and receiving improper gifts through the Alaska Fund Trust, set up by supporters.
An investigator for the state Personnel Board says in his July 14 report that there is probable cause to believe Palin used or attempted to use her official position for personal gain because she authorized the creation of the trust as the “official” legal defense fund.
The fund aims to help Palin pay off debts stemming from multiple ethics complaints against her, most of which have been dismissed. Palin says she owes more than $500,000 in legal fees.

Belle, I talked with a friend today in this area where I live. Strong Hospital of the University of Rochester is a behemoth. Already they are TELLING their practices to expand through the avenue of adding PAs not physicians to save money. Some people like my friend go to an office for the expertise of a physician and never see him. It’s outrageous. More of that to come surely.

DaVita, a California-based company that provides kidney dialysis, spent $4.2 million in 2008 and at least $700,000 so far this year lobbying in Washington on such issues as Medicare, health information technology and kidney disease.
Medco, a pharmacy benefit manager that runs a mail-order pharmacy, devoted at least $3.5 million to federal lobbying from January 2008 through last March. Its issues included health information technology, federal rules on patient privacy and chronic care management.
Boston-based Boston Scientific spent $1.6 million last year and at least $450,000 so far this year lobbying in Washington on subjects including health research, coverage of chronic pain treatment and Medicare.
Cerner, which provides health care clinical and management information systems and software, spent $370,000 last year and at least $55,000 so far this year lobbying in Washington on such issues as health information technology and patient identification.
California-based CareMore registered to lobby this year and has spent at least $50,000 lobbying on special-needs plans.

Hi Arlene – I think everyone signed off. I’m just back because we had a power failure and I stopped by to check my computer. My big black lab, Sam Henry – well he is no good in an emergency. When the lights went on and off and on and off he barked to beat the band then beat it upstairs to his bed. Only Imp the little one stayed with me. When I called Sam, he wouldn’t come to me. What am I going to do. I don’t have a watch dog, he is afraid of water and he will not retrieve. USELESS except for love!

Arlene they are great computers but pretty pricey for what you get. You can get a wiz bang system with a kick but monitor at Sams for about 499 bucks. the cheapest Mac is around 1200. But hey I want one too for my video and picture apps, they are really much better for that stuff.
