Make no mistake about it. They are Insurgents!
Once upon a time I was invited to the White House for a private
dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a
factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable
electronics.
There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the
administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country.
There’s nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no
laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with
an American President is an honor.
I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the
President in a yellow dining room. We sat across from each other at a
table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the
china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.
The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly
reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate, and began nibbling
it as he walked back to the kitchen.
“Sorry about that,” said the President. “Andrew is very hungry.”
“I don’t appreciate…” I began, but as I looked into the calm brown
eye across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty. It was just
a dinner roll.
“Of course,” I concluded, and reached for my glass. Before I could,
however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away and
swallowed the wine in a single gulp.”And his brother, Eric, is very
thirsty.” said the President.
I didn’t say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I
thought.
I withheld
my comments and decided to play along. I don’t want to seem unkind.
My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite. “Eric’s
children are also quiet hungry.
With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out
from under me. I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as
it was carried from the room.
And their grandmother can’t stand for long.”
I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool.
Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some
game.
I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken. I turned back
to the President.
“Their grandfather doesn’t like the cold.”
I wanted to shout, “that was my coat!” But again, I looked at the
placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport.
I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled. Then I felt my hip pocket
and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself and walked to a
phone on an elegant side table. I learned shortly that my credit
cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, my retirement and
equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had been thrown out of
our home. Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in.
The President hadn’t moved or spoken as I learned all this, but
finally I lowered the phone into its cradleand turned to face him.
“Andrew’s whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven’t
planned for retirement, and they need a house. They recently
defaulted on a subprime mortgage. I told them they could have your
home.They need it more than you do.”
My hands were shaking. I felt faint. I stumbled back to the table and
knelt on the floor. The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his
steak , and drank his wine. I lowered my eyes and stared at the small
grey circles on the tablecloth that were water drops.
“By the way,” He added, “I have just signed an Executive Order
nationalizing your factories. I’m firing you as head of your
business. I’ll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all
mankind.
There’s a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can’t
come to you for jobs groveling like beggars.”
I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin
which had been his crème Brule. He drained the last drops of his
wine. As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in
his chair. He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if
were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of the
years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with
a lifetime of work, risk and struggle. Why was I punished?
How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I played and lost? I
looked across the table and noticed with some surprise that there was
no game board between us.
What had I done wrong?
As if answering the unspoken thought, the President suddenly cocked
his head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth,
chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.
“You should have stopped me at the dinner roll,” he said.

Beaverton teacher faces investigation over Tea Party “infiltration”

UPDATE: The Beaverton School District has also launched its own investigation of whether Levin violated any conduct standards, said Maureen Wheeler, a spokeswoman for the school district.
Jason Levin, the Portland man who caused a ruckus over his plans to “infiltrate” Tea Party protests in an aim to discredit them, teaches in a Beaverton middle school and now faces an investigation by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.
Melody Hanson, the commission’s director of professional practices, said Wednesday that the agency opened an investigation because “there was enough concern that there was some neglect of duty” on the part of Levin.
Levin teaches in the media lab at Conestoga Middle School, although he described himself in an interview earlier this week with Talking Points Memo as a technology consultant.
Levin started a web site called “Crash the Tea Party” that he said was aimed at encouraging people to pose as Tea Party protestors while acting in outlandish ways in hopes of discrediting the movement.
Both the school district and the teachers licensing commission received calls protesting Levin’s actions and saying it was inappropriate for teachers.

A very successful Tea Party indeed. You’re showing the U.S. how much taxes need to be cut. And don’t let the 2009 tax cuts the Democrats have implemented discourage you. If I were you I’d hand those refunds right back and tell Obama you don’t want your taxes cut unless it’s a conservative tax cut.

A candid President Obama vowed Thursday evening that he would continue to reach out to Republicans and take their ideas into consideration, even as he took a light jab at some of his conservative critics in the Tea Party movement.
The president, speaking a Democratic fundraiser in Miami, urged lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to pass financial regulatory reform and warned them not to bow to pressure from firms and lobbyists trying to kill the legislation.
“We should all agree that we’ve got to pass common-sense Wall Street reform,” he told the crowd of 1,000 at Thursday’s DNC fundraiser, where tickets ranged from $250 to $1,250 a pop. Republicans have argued that the Democrats financial overhaul could lead to more bank bailouts rather than prevent them.
Obama also credited his signature economic recovery package with putting more than two million Americans back to work and with cutting taxes for families, small businesses and students. And he singled out the anti-tax tea party movement that fanned out across the country Thursday to hold demonstrations and rallies marking Tax Day.
“I’ve been a little amused over the last couple of days where people have been having these rallies about taxes,” the president said, noting the numerous tax cuts pushed by his administration. “You would think they’d be saying thank you.”
Although taxes are one complaint of the Tea Partiers, the protesters also have focused on big government spending, specifically the recently passed health care overhaul law and last year’s stimulus package — legislation that critics argue will mire future generations in debt.
At Thursday’s fundraiser, Obama garnered the biggest applause of the night when he lauded the passage of the sweeping health care legislation, which he praised for cutting the deficit and putting reforms in place that would offer coverage to more Americans.
“For all the sound and fury and all the scare tactics… the law doesn’t hand more control to the government,” the president said, “it gives it back to you, the American people.”
Obama borrowed a line from Vice President Biden, telling the audience, “this is a big deal” but strategically omitting the expletive Biden infamously was heard using on an open microphone just weeks ago. “Joe’s got a way with words, and he was right, it’s a big deal.”
And the president challenged Republicans and others seeking to repeal health care legislation, saying, “Go for it.”
“If they want to let kids be barred from getting insurance because of preexisting conditions we can have that discussion. If they want to take back tax cuts from small businesses who want to do the right thing by their employees I’m happy to have that argument,” Obama said.
Multiple lawsuits have been filed, including one with the backing of more than a dozen state attorneys general, seeking to overturn the law on constitutional grounds.
As for the upcoming elections, which analysts predict could be brutal for Democrats, Obama told the crowd that he believes elections will work themselves out if the party stays true to its principles.
“You can’t hyperventilate about the day to day politics and the gamesmanship and the polls,” he said.

Judge: Natl Day Of Prayer Unconstitutional

The National Day of Prayer, honored in the United States for more than a half-century, is unconstitutional, a federal judge in Wisconsin has ruled.
In a 66-page opinion issued Thursday, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb said the holiday violates the “establishment clause” of the First Amendment, which creates a separation of church and state.
“I understand that many may disagree with that conclusion and some may even view it as a criticism of prayer or those who pray,” Crabb said in her opinion. “That is unfortunate. A determination that the government may not endorse a religious message is not a determination that the message itself is harmful, unimportant or undeserving of dissemination.”
The opinion comes in a case filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group of self-described “atheists” and “agnostics.”
Crabb said her ruling is based on “relevant case law,” and it does not prevent religious groups from organizing prayer services or prevent the President from discussing his views on prayer.
“The only issue decided in this case is that the federal government may not endorse prayer in a statute,” Crabb said.
The Justice Department would not say whether it expects to appeal Crabb’s ruling.
“We are reviewing the court’s decision,” a Justice Department spokesman said.
Within hours of the ruling, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee urged the Justice Department to “immediately” file an appeal.
“The decision undermines the values of religious freedom that America was founded upon,” Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Tex., said in a statement. “What’s next? Declaring the federal holiday for Christmas unconstitutional?”
Crabb said the ruling would not have any effect until any appeals are exhausted.
She insisted her ruling was not a judgment on the value of prayer.
“No one can doubt the important role that prayer plays in the spiritual life of a believer,” Crabb said in her opinion. “In the best of times, people may pray as a way of expressing joy and thanks; during times of grief, many find that prayer provides comfort. Others may pray to give praise, seek forgiveness, ask for guidance or find the truth. … However, recognizing the importance of prayer to many people does not mean that the government may enact a statute in support of it, any more than the government may encourage citizens to fast during the month of Ramadan, attend a synagogue, purify themselves in a sweat lodge or practice rune magic.”
The National Day of Prayer was first established by Congress in 1952, with a more specific date for the holiday set in 1988. It is now observed on the first Thursday in May.
Smith said he can “assure” Americans that “Congress will do everything in its power to protect the National Day of Prayer.”
On the holiday last year, President Obama issued a statement saying Americans have always “come together in moments of great challenge and uncertainty to humble themselves in prayer.”
“In 1775, as the Continental Congress began the task of forging a new Nation, colonists were asked to observe a day of quiet humiliation and prayer,” the statement said. “Almost a century later, as the flames of the Civil War burned from north to south, President Lincoln and the Congress once again asked the American people to pray as the fate of their Nation hung in the balance.”

is somehow burdened by its military might — a comment that drew a stern rebuke from his former rival in the presidential campaign.
Obama was responding to a question Tuesday about how the summit would play into peace-making efforts in the Middle East when he addressed the downsides of — by virtue of America’s world stature — being obligated to intervene in international conflicts.
“It is a vital national security interest of the United States to reduce these conflicts because whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower, and when conflicts break out, one way or another we get pulled into them,” Obama said. “And that ends up costing us significantly in terms of both blood and treasure.”
The remark got little attention in mainstream coverage of the summit, but was picked up on several conservative blogs, which panned the president for suggesting Americans had grown weary of superpower status.

The Navy’s decision to name a ship for the late Rep. John Murtha has outraged some critics who have not forgiven the Pennsylvania Democrat for accusing U.S. Marines of murdering Iraqi civilians “in cold blood” five years ago.
The Navy’s decision to name a ship for the late Rep. John Murtha has outraged some critics who have not forgiven the Pennsylvania Democrat for accusing U.S. Marines of murdering Iraqi civilians “in cold blood” five years ago.
The Navy is naming its newest San Antonio-class amphibious transport-dock LPD 26 for Murtha, the powerful chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee who became an outspoken and influential critic of the Iraq war.
Murtha died in February at age 77 after complications from gallbladder surgery.
San Antonio-class ships support Marines and can carry roughly 700 troops, their equipment and vehicles. They are usually named after cities; the USS Murtha will be a break from that tradition.
The Washington Times denounced the tribute to the powerful congressman, a former Marine Corps officer, in its editorial on Thursday.
“This is a slap in the face to every service member who bridled when Murtha publicly accused Marines in Iraq of intentionally killing women and children in cold blood,” the editorial reads.
The newspaper said the honor shouldn’t go to “a political hack whose most successful defensive maneuver was saving his pork-laden earmarks from surprise attacks of fiscal responsibility.”
Another blogger wrote that it “seems oddly premature” to affix “Murtha’s name to a ship while real and continuing issues of ethics violations and abuses of power remain fresh in the collective memory.”
In February, the House ethics panel cleared Murtha in an investigation of his role in awarding defense contracts to a firm led by a former aide.
Murtha served in Korea and received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam. In 1974 he became the first Vietnam War combat veteran elected to Congress and went on to serve his Pennsylvania district for 18 terms.
But the Navy’s decision to honor him has become the focus of controversy because of his criticism of the Iraq war.
In 2002, Murtha voted to authorize President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq, but his growing frustration over the administration’s handling of the war prompted him in November 2005 to call for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.
His criticism of the Iraq war intensified in 2005, when he accused Marines of murdering Iraqi civilians “in cold blood” in Haditha after a Marine died and two were wounded by a roadside bomb.
Charges against six of the Marines have been dropped, and one Marine was acquitted. The last Marine, Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, will stand military trial in September on reduced charges of voluntary manslaughter in nine of the 24 deaths and other crimes. Wuterich was originally charged with shooting 17 Iraqi civilians.
Critics said Murtha unfairly held the Marines responsible before an investigation was concluded and fueled enemy retaliation. He said that the war couldn’t be won militarily and that such incidents dimmed the prospect for a political solution.
Murtha, nicknamed “The King of Pork,” also faced scrutiny for earmarking federal dollars for projects in his district.
While critics object, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who announced the tribute, made clear in a statement following Murtha’s death in February that the congressman was respected at the Pentagon.
“Both in uniform and in the halls of Congress, Chairman Murtha dedicated his life to serving his country both in the Marine Corps and Congress. His unwavering support of our sailors and Marines, and in particular our wounded warriors, was well known and deeply appreciated,” Mabus said.
A senior Republican congressional aide told FoxNews.com that it’s doubtful much criticism will emerge from Capitol Hill.
“In the past, whenever the Navy decides to name a ship after someone, especially a former member of Congress, generally there’s not that much pushback,” the aide said.

It’s not tax “CUT” that is a Credit. And Credit is a nice word for money that was stolen by 50 percent who do pay taxes and given to the 50 percent who pay nothing.

WASHINGTON – New tax breaks enacted last year are causing confusion for taxpayers and enforcement problems for the Internal Revenue Service, according to a government report issued Thursday, the deadline for filing individual returns.
As of March 5, the IRS erroneously gave out $24.2 million in Making Work Pay tax credits, according to the report by J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. The IRS issued a total of $25 billion worth of the credits during the period, for an error rate of less than one-tenth of 1 percent.
The IRS also erroneously issued about $4.7 million in tax credits meant for people who bought plug-in electric cars. The new tax breaks were enacted as part of the massive economic recovery package passed last year.
“Our report concludes that the IRS is having a mixed filing season this year,” George said. “On the one hand, they are having difficulty implementing many of the changes created by the passage of the laws designed to stimulate the economy. On the other hand, the news is not all bad as the IRS is detecting and stopping more erroneous refunds this year.”
The report covers returns processed as of March 5. At the time, the IRS had received about 61 million returns. The agency expects to receive about 140 million individual returns this year.
“Any time you have major tax changes you will see some confusion over it,” said IRS spokesman Terry Lemons. The IRS is doing “everything we can” to work through problems and process returns quickly.
The stimulus package enacted last year presented many challenges for taxpayers and the IRS, making an already complicated tax system even more complex. There were tax credits for qualified families who buy new homes or make energy improvements to existing ones, as well as tax breaks to help pay college tuition or buy new cars.
The Making Work Pay tax credit was President Barack Obama’s signature tax break in the package. It provides individuals with up to $400 and couples up to $800.
