The unemployment rate dropped from 10 percent because a survey of households found the number of employed Americans rose by 541,000, the Labor Department said Friday. The job losses are calculated from a separate survey of employers.

India calls the UN on its global warming lies
India — the world’s largest democracy — has told the UN and its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (headed by India’s Rajendra Kumar Pachauri) to shove it.
“The Indian government’s move is a significant snub to both the IPCC and Dr Pachauri as he battles to defend his reputation following the revelation his most recent climate change report included false claims that most of the Himalayan glaciers would melt away by 2035. Scientists believe it could take more than 300 years for the glaciers to disappear,” the London Telegraph reported.
Oh, that is just the tip of the unmelting iceberg. There are the 42 phantom weather stations in rural China, thousands of MIA weather reporting stations that were removed after they showed, and of course those thousands of e-mails from Climategate which showed, among other things, that these “Nobel laureates” were trying to “trick” people as they plotted to “hide the decline” in global temperatures.
“In India the false claims have heightened tensions between Dr Pachauri and the government, which had earlier questioned his glacial melting claims. In Autumn, its environment minister Mr Jairam Ramesh said while glacial melting in the Himalayas was a real concern, there was evidence that some were actually advancing in the face of global warming,” the London Telegraph reported.
So India will do its own study — using something not tried before in climatology: Real science.
Ramesh: “There is a fine line between climate science and climate evangelism. I am for climate science. I think people misused [the] IPCC report, [the] IPCC doesn’t do the original research which is one of the weaknesses … they just take published literature and then they derive assessments, so we had goof-ups on Amazon forest, glaciers, snow peaks.
“I respect the IPCC but India is a very large country and cannot depend only on [the] IPCC and so we have launched the Indian Network on Comprehensive Climate Change Assessment.”
Climate evangelism. I love it.

Danish Forces Storm Somali Pirate Ship, Free 25 People On Board

NAIROBI, Kenya — Danish special forces stormed a ship captured by armed Somali pirates Friday and freed the 25 crew on board, marking the first time a warship has intervened during a hijacking, naval spokesmen said.
After the vessel Ariella sent out a distress signal early Friday, the Danish warship Absalon sent a helicopter to confirm the presence of pirates, and communicated with the crew to ensure they were in a safe location, said Cmdr. John Harbour, spokesman for the European Union Naval Force.
“Once NATO were absolutely sure that the crew onboard were safe and not going to be caught up in any cross fire, the decision was made to send in the specialist teams,” said Lt. Col. Wolfgang Schmidt, a spokesman for NATO’s Lisbon-based Joint Command.
Ten Danish special forces aboard the Absalon approached the Ariella in an inflatable dinghy, he said. The forces scaled the side of the ship and freed the 25 crew, who had locked themselves in a secure room, and continued to search the vessel for the pirates.
In the meantime, sailors from the nearby Russian Navy ship Neustrashimyy boarded and detained pirates aboard a second skiff, said Schmidt.
Harbour praised the NATO forces for their fast reaction and coordination with other forces in the area.
“There’s been many instances where there’s been excellent cooperation and three, four or even five nations have helped deter a pirate attack,” he said. But, he added: “This is the first where a warship has been able to send forces to stop a hijacking while it was in progress.”
Warships typically do not intervene in hijackings because of the danger that crews may be hit by crossfire. Forces were able to intervene in this case because the ship had registered with naval authorities, was traveling along a recommended transit corridor and was part of a group transit, ensuring the ships had a helicopter within 30 minutes’ reaction time, Harbour said.
Denmark rarely releases information on operations carried out by its elite forces, but the storming of the ship may have been carried out by the country’s elite Frogman Corps, which were part of a NATO deployment.
“There is an operation going on down there and we’re involved. It is still going on right now,” Pernielle Kroer, spokeswoman for the Danish Navy told The Associated Press.
The Antigua and Barbuda-flagged Ariella sent out a distress signal early Friday that was picked up by the Indian warship Tabar in the Gulf of Aden. The Indians relayed the signal to a French plane overhead, which spotted a group of armed pirates on the deck. Then the Danish troops were notified.
The ship has a crew of 25, including a Bulgarian, a Slovakian, an Indian, 15 Filipinos, and 7 Ukrainians, the EU Naval Force said. They are all safe.
Other EU and American forces have intervened in pirate hostage situations, but not during the hijacking itself.
French commandos stormed a yacht last April with five hostages on board but one, skipper Florent Lemacon, was killed during the operation. American snipers also shot dead three pirates in April 2009 holding an American captain hostage on board a lifeboat after the crew of the Maersk Alabama had persuaded the pirates to leave the main ship.
Details on the nationalities of the crew on board the Arielle and its cargo were not immediately released.
Somali pirates have seized three ships this year and hold a total of nine vessels and more than 180 crew.
Piracy is one of the few ways to make money in Somalia, an arid, impoverished land torn apart by civil war. The government does not hold its own capital and can’t send forces to counter the flourishing pirate bases that dot its 1,900-mile-long coastline.

I hope India knocks the world dead with an accurate study and proves once and for all that humans need to stop trying to debate their way out of doing what is so necessary to save our planet and consequently our species. Stop destroying the planet peeps!

Poll: Tea Party movement fails to make any impression on 4 out of 10

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) — One-third of Americans have a favorable view of the Tea Party movement, but a plurality has no opinion at all, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey indicates that 26 percent of the public has an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement and that 4 in 10 have not heard of the movement or don’t know enough to form an opinion. The poll’s Friday-morning release comes as what’s billed as the first national Tea Party convention begins its first full day of meetings in Nashville.
“The Tea Party movement is a blank slate to many Americans, which is not surprising for a political movement that is only about a year old,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Not surprisingly, opinion breaks along partisan and ideological lines.”
According to the survey, Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin have an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement; Republicans like it by a 3-to-1 margin. Among independents, 35 percent of independents holding a positive view and 24 percent a negative view.
On Saturday, Sarah Palin will serve as the convention’s keynote speaker.
The also poll indicates that Americans are split on the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, with 43 percent seeing her in a positive light and 46 percent holding an unfavorable view.
“Opinion on Sarah Palin also breaks down along party lines, with seven in 10 Democrats disliking her and seven in 10 Republicans with a positive view. She has a net-negative rating among independents: 42 percent favorable and 47 percent unfavorable,” Holland added. “She also continues to rate better among men than women.”
The Tea Party movement developed last year in protest to what its supporters saw as overspending in Washington — by both Republicans and Democrats — after the stimulus bill, the bank bailouts and President Obama’s budget.
The poll was conducted January 22-24, with 1,009 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey’s overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
