question: What does ‘openly gay’ actually mean? re: the military

Personally I don’t give a hang what people do in privacy. There have always been gays in the military of every army that ever existed… statistically speaking.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, ADMIRAL MIKE MULLEN said: “It is my personal belief that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be the right thing to do. I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens.”

Oh Tay, so that is your personal belief, Admiral. Got it.

But you are not the people serving in the Armed Forces who will be forced to endure as yet undefined Gay and Lesbian behavior by the to-be-privileged ones.

So the question is on the table… define what “openly gay in the military” allows and does not allow.

Does it allow:

  • Soapy fun in the ship’s head or barracks showers between men or between women?
  • Cross-dressing on base? …at the O-Club? or, will there be on-base Gay O-Clubs?
  • Swapping spit in uniform between men or between women?
  • Wearing the uniform of either gender?
  • Military Transvestites switching between the men’s barracks and the women’s barracks depending on their mood that day?
  • US Armed Forces Hospitals performing sex change operations?
  • Military Drag Queens hitting on heterosexual men while in Drag on base?
  • Gays and Lesbians sharing beds together on board ship and in the barracks?
  • What about Gay Military Marriages?

To me, it is not about what a person is or is not, it is about public behaviors which are generally offensive.

good q about military marriages. The answer would be no. Not until gay marriage is enacted.

You got to have those macho soldiers… They are the tough guys that are killing machines. Other wise you get “you better stop it or I’m gonna b!tch slap you!”

  20. rosehips says:

I can see how allowing openly gay soldiers is a very big step and will not be without its detractors. I know if I was a hetero homophobe, I sure wouldn’t want to take a gang shower with a “queer” ya know? But hey, they gonna have to get used to it and I think eventually they will. Gawking at your bunkmate’s package will not be tolerated! haha

  21. samiam60 says:

I will say this VF, openly Gay is an empowerment to Gays to hit on non-Gays in the Military. I can predict that if this is allowed there will be a whole lot of Ass Kicking going on and Court Marshals as a result. This is a bad idea period.

I have no problem with Gays being queer fagots and all but I have to draw the line when they infringe on my personal space.

  22. rosehips says:

oh I know we need macho soldiers foxy, where would we be without all that overloaded testosterone?

  23. samiam60 says:

  24. rosehips says:

sami, I think by “openly” is that they don’t have to hide it. They can say they are gay, they can live with their partner and show the same affection you could show your wife in public if you were married and in the military.

What would you consider an infringement of your personal space?

    Wheels fall off global-warming hysteria

Lorne Gunter, Edmonton Journal Published: Sunday, January 31, 2010
I can’t recall the wheels coming off the bus of any expert-driven hysteria as fast or as completely as they are now coming off the global-warming scare.

I suppose they must have came off faster from Y2K. At 12:00:01 AM on Jan. 1, 2000, when airliners didn’t fall from the sky and power plants didn’t shut down spontaneously or computers didn’t freeze up all over the world, the air came out of the Y2K scare instantly. Billions had been spent on preventing that disaster-that-never-was up until midnight on the final day of 1999, then almost not a penny afterwards.

Love him or hate him , he sure hits the nail on the head with this!
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1 : Life is not fair – get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn’t care about your
self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

    Rule 3 : You will
NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault , so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now.. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.

If you don’t agree stick your head in the sand and take a deep breath!
If you can read this -Thank a teacher!

COURIC FACES PAY CUT; DEEP LAYOFFS HIT CBSNEWS
    Wed Feb 03 2010 09:11:21 ET

CBSNEWS anchorwoman and 60 MINUTES contributor Katie Couric faces a dramatic pay cut at the network, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

CBS boss Les Moonves is determined to save money and trim expenses — from top to bottom — at the former crown jewel of broadcasting.

Couric, the highest paid TV news personality in history, commands over $14 million a year, plus bumps for non-EVENING NEWS appearances.

But her salary is now in the direct line of fire, network insiders explain, and a populist backlash against Couric’s cash is said to be forming inside the newsroom.

“She makes enough to pay 200 news reporters $75,000 a year!” demands a veteran producer. “It’s complete insanity.”

The angry source continues: “We report with great enthusiasm how much bankers are making, how it is out of step with reality during a recession. Well, look at Katie!”

    MORE

Couric’s $300,000 a week paycheck has become the obsession of disgruntled CBS staff, just as deep layoffs rock the fishbowl.

Dozens of employees — including staff members in D.C., San Francisco, Miami, London, Los Angeles and Moscow — are being let go, the NEW YORK OBSERVER reports.

Couric’s current CBS contract expires next year.

    Developing…

EDITOR’S NOTE: Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press. Tears welled in the lifelong reporter’s eyes as he discussed the dwindling number of war correspondents.

Scott Brown to be sworn in Feb. 11

    By Matt Viser, Globe Staff

Massachusetts officials are planning to formally certify the US Senate election results Wednesday, allowing Senator-elect Scott Brown to be sworn in at any point afterward.

    Senator-elect Scott Brown

Aides to Brown and the Senate leadership say the swearing-in is planned for Feb. 11 at 12:45 p.m.

Massachusetts election officials had to wait until at least 10 days after the Jan. 19 election to allow overseas ballots to arrive. Those results have now been tallied and all but three communities – Salem, Springfield, and Westfield – have submitted final results to the secretary of state’s office. Those three are expected to have the final results turned in before the Governor’s Council meets Wednesday at noon.

There were about 1,900 ballots sent overseas, which won’t alter the results but still must be tallied.

“We’ve followed the book on this,” Secretary of State William F. Galvin said in an interview. “We’ve proceeded as we would with any other election.”

After the Governor’s Council approves the results, it needs signatures from the governor and the secretary of state. The certificate will then be given to Brown and provided to the Secretary of the United States Senate.

If Brown wanted, he could fly down Wednesday or Thursday and be sworn in almost immediately. He has been planning, however, to have the ceremony on Feb. 11 and a spokesman, Felix Browne, said this afternoon that is still the plan. There appears to be little reason to rush: There are no major votes, and Senate Democrats have said they won’t push health care legislation — a contentious plan that Brown campaigned against — before Brown is sworn in.

A top US Senate aide said that as long as the proper documentation is provided, the plan is for Brown to be sworn in at 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 11.

The day after the election, Galvin supplied unofficial results to Brown and top US Senate officials in both parties. But Senate protocol is to wait until a formal certificate is provided before swearing in any newly elected senators.

Galvin says he has been in frequent communication with Brown, who has not made any issue out of not being sworn in immediately.

Before being sworn in, Brown will have to resign his state senate seat, and a special election will be set.

“He has a real psychological hang up about the entertainment capitol of the world. An apology won’t be acceptable this time, I don’t know where his vendetta comes from but we’re not going to let him make his bones by lambasting Las Vegas, that’s why (the press) is here today.

“He didn’t learn his lesson the first time, but when he hurt our economy by his ill conceived rhetoric, we didn’t think it would happen again, but now that it has I want to assure you, when he comes I’ll do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.

“I gotta tell you this, everybody says I shouldn’t say it, but I gotta tell you the way it is. This president is a real slow learner.”

Allowing gays to serve openly in the military would work fine if it were not for living side by side in a barracks or on shipboard.
Openly serving for gays will open the door to sexual hanky-panky between gays, and it will lead to open jealousies and ill feelings between ex-lovers and rivals.
In fact, openly serving for gays makes exactly as much sense as co-ed military barracks and co-ed sleeping quarters on shipboard. Any objections that one makes to the co-ed idea should apply equally to the openly gay policy idea as well.

Actually, it would be plain discrimination if the military allowed openly gay service but not co-ed sleeping quarters.
