Support for ObamaCare sinks to 38% Nationwide

From Rasmussen Polls Monday, November 23, 2009, on the heels of forward motion for the Senate ObamaCare Bill…

Health Care Reform
Support for Health Care Plan Falls to New Low
Monday, November 23, 2009

Just 38% of voters now favor the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That’s the lowest level of support measured for the plan in nearly two dozen tracking polls conducted since June.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% now oppose the plan.

Half the survey was conducted before the Senate voted late Saturday to begin debate on its version of the legislation. Support for the plan was slightly lower in the half of the survey conducted after the Senate vote.

Prior to this, support for the plan had never fallen below 41%. Last week, support for the plan was at 47%. Two weeks ago, the effort was supported by 45% of voters.

Intensity remains stronger among those who oppose the push to change the nation’s health care system: 21% Strongly Favor the plan while 43% are Strongly Opposed.

The movie has no reference to the war in Vietnam, but it DID present a war of principals, the theft of traditions, the pride of being self-sufficient and independent from a greedy corrupt government.
Billy Jack stood up for principals and demanded justice.

    HA HA HA

From the Japanese news magazine Shukan Bunshun:

Indications that it would be chaotic were picked up in advance, even before President Obama arrived in Japan. “Even within the Japanese government there was and is still no agreement among the Japanese Cabinet Ministers on what to do about the Futenma USMC station in Okinawa situation (moving it to an offshore location or elsewhere), and for that reason the decision was being put in a holding pattern because of it, the US peppered their disbelief at Japan, stating “we don’t know just who is saying what and if it is true on your side, the decision is taking too long.” And that is when the U.S. side sent their anger to Japan in message form by their highly unusual, sudden, last-minute change in the schedule of Obama to come to Japan, a US journalist source revealed.

–The plan was for Obama to arrive in Japan on the November 12, have his summit meeting with Hatoyama on the 13th, and thereby jet out of Japan the following day, the 14th to Singapore for the APEC Summit meeting. The US journalist also revealed that the Obama administration made the sudden request to change this schedule for Obama to the 13th (arrival in Japan), on November 7. Said the same US journalist source, “their excuse for the delay was the shooting at Ft. Hood, Texas on the US Army base on November 5. But the fact of the matter is, the memoral service was on the November 10 and only took a day trip for Obama whereupon he returned immediately to Washington. After that, he had the National Security Council meeting on policy in Afghanistan on November 11th. However, he could have departed Washington D.C. right after that and could have still landed in Japan as everyone agreed and planned on, for the 12th.”

–Additional screw-ups that created a possible conflict with the Emperor’s schedule and the entire Cabinet celebrating his 20 years on the throne, can be traced to the Japanese Foreign Ministry. A ruling Democratic Party of Japan spokesperson said “at any rate, with four days in China for Obama, the fact is China is the big thing for them.”

–Obama was made to wait five minutes in a car at the entrance way to the Prime Minister’s Official Residence, which as seen as not only a diplomatic discourtesy, but a breach of security procedures, and furthermore it would be recalled the Prime Minister and his wife had kept Obama waiting for a long time in Pittsburg at the G-20 dinner as well, says foreign affairs specialist Oyama.

–It may have been felt as a diplomatic slight to get back at the Americans because of the very sudden, troublesome last minute schedule change.

–A DPJ ruling party official stated to Shukan Bunshun, that “in the Obama-Hatoyama summit itself, the Japanese side had a total of 14 officials, including six cabinet ministers, the Foreign Minister Okada, the Defense Minister Kitazawa, etc. but on the American side it was only “Team Obama” staff and hardly anybody else. There was agreement in advance that there would be no detailed discussion on any topics, and there was not even a dynamic give-and-take discussion in the meeting. It was to the point that even on the American side, there were those in the Obama delegation who were yawning and even some who were nodding off right there in the meeting.“

–Prime Minister Hatoyama essentially left Obama on Japanese soil while he went ahead of Obama to the Singapore summit of APEC, leaving on the November 14 even while Obama still had major events in Japan such as delivering a major live speech and visiting the Imperial Palace, so this to was seen perhaps as a message leaving ahead of him like that as a country’s host, observed a reporter attached to the Prime Minister’s beat. The reason to go to Singapore like that was to tape-cut the grand opening of a Japan information center, but in order to do that, cutting time to be spent with the President of the US on Japanese soil is rather unprecedented, journalist Michael Yu observed.

–Before the US-Japan summit, the leader of the Socialist Party of Japan Ms. Fukushima, threatened that if the US Marines would move their base up to (the) Henoko offshore reef from the current Futenma location, then she would leave the Hatoyama coalition government. Well it seems Prime Minister Hatoyama is more afraid of Socialist Party leader Fukushima than he is President Obama of the USA, that is why he reversed himself on the committment about settling Futenma USMC Station issue so soon after meeting Obama.

–A source in the US government stated “US-Japan relations are having a problem, but it is not a crisis.” –However, it does seem a crisis is approaching as we speak.

    Thanks VF.

  60. VotingFemale says:

    thatsright,

Actually, all you need to do is link to a blogpost here within a blogpost of yours… WordPress supports ‘pingback’ which is an automated trackback function.

I just added a link to this blogpost to send you a trackback using the pingback method.

  61. VotingFemale says:

Are you using WordPress.org software for your blog, thatsright?

Probably not, seeing you dont have an Avatar here… wordpress uses OpenID which allows your Avatar to follow you around on other blogs that support OpenID.

  62. thatsright says:

Hmm…ok, I didn’t know that. I’m used to finding the TB URL and pasting it into my post.

Thanks VF, for the link and the information. I’ll have to remember that.

He Tellit! yes… Billy Jack was a very good movie!

  66. thatsright says:

Squarespace. I usually find the TB URL and then paste it into the post I’m writing. For example, I TB to HotAir quite often and I copy and past their URL and paste it in my post and I show up under their TB link section.

I’m just getting my feet wet with this but I want to make sure that I recognize everyone I read.

    Thanks again VF.

    Russ

  67. VotingFemale says:

If you dont see my trackback, Russ, I will have to use a TB URL to do it with, I suspect.

Most blogging platforms are now in compliance with the PingBack functionality… but not all of them.

  68. VotingFemale says:

I often send pingbacks to HOTAiR… but dont use the TB URL… as they are using WordPress as a platform running on an external server… same for Michelle Malkin’s blog and a host of others…

I am not familiar with Squarespace but that not too strange as I have been blogging only for about 7 or so months.

  69. thatsright says:

I just posted a follow-up to the post you linked and linked directly back to you.

    http://www.thats-right.com/rapid-fire-rightness/2009/11/23/obamas-speechless-at-the-japan-bow-dust-up.html

    Do you see it?

    Friggin’ Squarespace.

  70. VotingFemale says:

    Russ,

The trackback will show up here in the Comment section if it comes in… this wordpress theme I use called Cutline by Chris Pearson does not provide a seperate trackback section above the comment section like HOTAiR does…

Eventually I will move off the wordpress subdomain and get a really kickbutt theme I can customize…

  71. VotingFemale says:

Also there is no telling how fast or slow a trackback arrives as it has to wind its way through servers…

  72. Tellitlikeitis says:

    A lesson to be learned.

  73. thatsright says:

In the meantime I’ll just keep linking and commenting the old fashioned way.

    Thanks again VF.

I was just reading AT and found this comment interesting:

This is a very old story. The United States is following the same path Rome did. Self centered, greedy people took control of the government and destroyed the Roman Republic by making an equally greedy and shortsighted mob of dependent people out of their fellow citizens. The mob gave power to the corrupt elite in exchange for bread and circuses. That corruption is the Democratic party and many in the Republican leadership, think RINO, just want into the game.

In Rome the defenders of the Republic died and we remember the brute Caesar and vilify Brutus. Will the thugs succeed again? Will we beat back the darkness of the bureaucratic state or go down in history as Brutus does?

ACORN Dumped Sensitive Documents as Probe Began, Private Investigator Says

  90. Tellitlikeitis says:

Lisa. No argument here. I agree with you 300 persent. Acorn is going down. I hope you and your family are well.

  91. samiam60 says:

A private investigator says he found tens of thousands of sensitive documents dumped outside a California ACORN office just days after the state attorney general announced an inquiry into the community organizing group.

Derrick Roach, a licensed investigator based in San Diego, told FoxNews.com he paid an impromptu visit to the city’s ACORN branch on Oct. 9 and watched from his car as a man tossed bags of files into a Dumpster outside the building.

After ACORN staff left for the day, he says, he searched the trash bin and discovered more than 20,000 documents he believes point to illicit relationships between ACORN and a bank and a labor union — as well as confidential information that could put thousands at risk for identity theft.

“We’re talking people’s driver’s license numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, tax returns, credit reports” — all tossed in public view in the Dumpster, he said.

In one document shared with FoxNews.com, an ACORN employee’s name, address, date of birth, Social Security number and driver’s license number were revealed, and photocopies of the employee’s license and Social Security card were also included. Another document showed bank account information for a woman paying an ACORN membership fee by check.

“It was just a careless disregard for the people that ACORN claimed to be helping,” Roach told FoxNews.com. “They put these people at risk.”

Roach said that data breach laws bar dumping like the kind he uncovered at ACORN’s office. Tossing the documents into a Dumpster, he said, constitutes a crime in California.

“So if someone wanted to, they could bring legal action against ACORN for doing this,” he said.

A top ACORN official in California apologized for the lapse Monday, saying that some confidential information might have been thrown away during a massive clean-up of their offices last month.

“In early October, when our San Diego staff were doing an office clean-up in preparation for a major 10-station phone bank program being set up in our offices, it appears that included in the piles of garbage being thrown out may have been some documents containing private information,” said Amy Schur, state head organizer for California ACORN, in an e-mailed statement.

Schur implied that “this guy” Roach, a former Republican candidate for statewide office, may have had political motivations for unearthing the documents. She said ACORN would seek the return of the documents “so that we may give proper notice of the compromising of the information as required by law.”

Roach told FoxNews.com he has been going over the trove of ACORN files and has found connections to the California Teachers Association and to Citibank.

“ACORN was acting as an agent” for Citibank, Roach charged. “They had mortgage information for homeowners … who were in foreclosure, who were in default.”

Roach says that the documents suggest that ACORN staffers would go out on “assignments” to take pictures of some residences or even to “go out and actually make contact” with people living in homes financed by Citibank loans.

He said he believes Citibank will have to report to its customers that their information may have been at risk when ACORN threw it away. “They took information and they just dumped it in the garbage,” he said.

Citibank ran an outreach program through ACORN that utilized the group’s local staff to encourage homeowners at risk of defaulting on their mortgages to contact the bank and work on avoiding defaults. That relationship has since been severed, a spokesman for Citigroup told FoxNews.com in an e-mail.

“Over time, Citi has worked with a variety of not-for-profit partners, including ACORN, to provide financial education, meet affordable lending needs, promote stable homeownership for low- to moderate- income consumers and help in foreclosure prevention,” the spokesman said.

“We are deeply concerned about the recent media reports regarding ACORN. We recently suspended our charitable financial support and program relationships with ACORN, and we are waiting for the results of the independent audit of ACORN’s activities now underway.”

Roach also charged that the California Teachers Association, the state’s largest teachers’ union, was “funneling information to ACORN for political activity” — a relationship that he said would not be illegal but would require ACORN and the CTA to disclose fully.

“I’ve done some checking into the reports that have been filed for the CTA, for ACORN, and I’m not finding any of this information being disclosed,” he said. He did not provide any documents illustrating the relationship to FoxNews.com.

CTA spokesman Mike Myslinksi said the union had no comment on documents it had not seen. “That’s out of left field,” he said.

Roach’s accusation comes in the wake of a national scandal for ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. Staffers were caught on tape this summer in six cities offering to help a pair of filmmakers posing as a pimp and prostitute to lie to the IRS and acquire illegal home loans.

ACORN fired an employee in its San Diego office, Juan Carlos Vera, after video surfaced of him offering to help the “pimp” and “prostitute” smuggle in girls from Tijuana, Mexico, noting that he had many contacts in the city who could assist in smuggling them across the border.

The group is now under investigation by a number of city, state and federal agencies, and Congress has cut off funding for the group.

On Oct. 1, California Attorney General Jerry Brown launched a state investigation of ACORN. It was just eight days later that Roach says he retrieved the sensitive files — timing he says he finds fishy.

“I think if you look at the timeline of events when the attorney general made the announcement, when the documents were dumped, I think that it’s highly suspicious.”

At a covert forward operating base run by the US Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, members of an elite division of Blackwater are at the center of a secret program in which they plan targeted assassinations of suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives, “snatch and grabs” of high-value targets and other sensitive action inside and outside Pakistan, an investigation by The Nation has found. The Blackwater operatives also assist in gathering intelligence and help run a secret US military drone bombing campaign that runs parallel to the well-documented CIA predator strikes, according to a well-placed source within the US military intelligence apparatus.

Sorry, VF. Meant to vet this in MS Word.

  121. samhenry says:

Here is one part of my response to that article:

I have read further the work by Dinesh D’Souza. He does get lost at times in the very good observations he makes and has difficulties doing more than stringing them together. He gets into the divide between Red and Blue America and I think this is where he often gets lost among the points and details. If his thesis is that the cultural left and its actions and views inspired the 9/11 planners, then their lifestyles of personal pleasure seeking vs “traditional values” would not have. Radical Islam is very much like the FAR RIGHT conservative [not party]. US. Surely George Bush should have inspired them and he did – he inspired hate. In the end, I don’t think America’s enemies are assessing things here too deeply. They see what they want to see. They want to see the ugly American so they ferret out those views and actions that support their own theories. They are not into who believes what here overly deeply. The only see the final product of our foreign policy and I feel that policy is that of which the Crusaders would have approved Didn’t we learn anything back then? We rode huge draft-like horses with men wearing incredibly heavy armor. We were outflanked by men riding swift, slender mounts unencumbered by heavy armor. Today, we are still using the same tactics – and the Islamic Fundamentalists know that we will – we trot out all the latest weaponry and go in there armed to the gills and backed up by big bombs. But wait – who are we up against? A few thousand men at a time with rocket launchers, road bombs and suicide belts. Could we possibly lighten up and win? Could we possibly search down in our souls for a little fervor. Oh, and can we remember why we won the Revolutionary War? We were on our own turf; the Brits would not give up the red coats and marches in formation; and we were the more pragmatic and imaginative locals who had a flexibility to wage one of the first guerrilla wars. The Taliban probably studied that war for how to proceed; Viet Nam for how not to.

  122. samhenry says:

    ERROR

Above I was responding to the views of an author who was quoted in a comment beneath the Nation article, gasp, gasp, gasp.

Here is the start of the author quoted:

    THE ENEMY AT HOME:
THE CULTURAL LEFT AND ITS RESPONSIBILITY FOR 9/11
    by Dinesh D’Souza

In this book I make a claim that will seem startling at the outset. The cultural left in this country (such people as Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, George Soros, Michael Moore, Bill Moyers, and Noam Chomsky) is responsible for causing 9/11. The term “cultural left” does not refer to the Democratic Party. Nor does it refer to all liberals. It refers to the left wing of the Democratic Party—admittedly the most energetic group among Democrats, and the main source of the party’s ideas. The cultural left also includes a few Republicans, notably those who adopt a left-wing stance on foreign policy and social issues. Moreover, the cultural left includes organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Organization for Women, People for the American Way, Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Watch, and moveon.org.

In faulting the cultural left, I am not making the absurd accusation that this group blew up the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I am saying that the cultural left and its allies in Congress, the media, Hollywood, the nonprofit sector and the universities are the primary cause of the volcano of anger toward America that is erupting from the Islamic world. The Muslims who carried out the 9/11 attacks were the product of this visceral rage—some of it based on legitimate concerns, some of it based on wrongful prejudice—but all of it fueled and encouraged by the cultural left. Thus without the cultural left, 9/11 would not have happened.

Lieberman Digs In on Gov’t-Run Health Option

The senator says any “public option” will compel him to block a final vote on the health bill.

  133. samiam60 says:

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, speaking in that trademark sonorous baritone, utters a simple statement that translates into real trouble for Democratic leaders: “I’m going to be stubborn on this.”

Stubborn, he means, in opposing any health-care overhaul that includes a “public option,” or government-run health-insurance plan, as the current bill does. His opposition is strong enough that Lieberman says he won’t vote to let a bill come to a final vote if a public option is included.

Probe for a catch or caveat in that opposition, and none is visible. Can he support a public option if states could opt out of the plan, as the current bill provides? “The answer is no,” he says in an interview from his Senate office. “I feel very strongly about this.” How about a trigger, a mechanism for including a public option along with a provision saying it won’t be used unless private insurance plans aren’t spreading coverage far and fast enough? No again.

So any version of a public option will compel Lieberman to vote against bringing a bill to a final vote? “Correct,” he says.

This is, of course, more than just one senator objecting to one part of health legislation. This is the former Democratic vice presidential nominee, now an independent, Joe Lieberman, still counted on to be the 60th vote Democrats will need to force a final vote on health legislation. In opposing a public option, he is opposing the element some Democratic liberals have come to consider the cornerstone of a health-care bill.

Maybe the Lieberman stance is posturing, or a maneuver to force a watering down of the public option into something he and like-minded Democratic conservatives can swallow. In any case, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tries to solve the Rubik’s Cube that is health legislation, Lieberman just might represent the hardest piece to flip into place.

Top Republican Lawmakers Not Invited to State Dinner

Among others, the president didn’t invite his 2008 campaign rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, even though Obama the candidate pledged a post-partisan presidency.

  136. samiam60 says:

While the White House is mum about who will be among the 300 or so lucky invitees to President Obama’s first state dinner Tuesday night, word is already leaking out about who’s not on the A-list, The Washington Times reports.

Chief among the non-attendees: top Republican lawmakers.

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner won’t be there; he’s on Thanksgiving break and home in Ohio. His deputy, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, also didn’t get an invitation to the dinner.

The president didn’t invite his 2008 rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, even though Obama the candidate pledged a post-partisan presidency.

Most senators will be back in their home states during the holiday break, and few Republicans want to return to Washington for a party packed with Democrats. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell received an invitation but decided to skip the dinner.

Some top Democrats also found themselves out of the loop. Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who turned out to be a pivotal player in Saturday’s health care vote, didn’t rate an invitation. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus of Montana, who wrote the first draft of the bill, also didn’t get the vaunted engraved invitation to the black-tie dinner.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat turned independent who will be crucial to the fate of health care reform, won’t be attending the dinner. He prefers to stay in Connecticut.

What’s the constitution say about a foreign enemy taking control of govt. Can the ppl do a sit-in at capital hill?

This might be the thing we have to do, before they throw the baby out with the bathwater. Or if they pass their healthcare sham.

First thing Fidel Castro did when he took power is put universal healthcare in place. This is the keystone of Communism. Make no mistake.

    Good Morning everyone!

Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of ‘Anthropogenic Global Warming’?

If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)

When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential. As Andrew Bolt puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:

Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more.

One of the alleged emails has a gentle gloat over the death in 2004 of John L Daly (one of the first climate change sceptics, founder of the Still Waiting For Greenhouse site), commenting:

“In an odd way this is cheering news.”

But perhaps the most damaging revelations – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.

Here are a few tasters. (So far, we can only refer to them as alleged emails because – though Hadley CRU’s director Phil Jones has confirmed the break-in to Ian Wishart at the Briefing Room – he has yet to fess up to any specific contents.) But if genuine, they suggest dubious practices such as:

    Manipulation of evidence:

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.

Private doubts about whether the world really is heating up:

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

    Suppression of evidence:

Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4?

Keith will do likewise. He’s not in at the moment – minor family crisis.

Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same? I don’t have his new email address.

We will be getting Caspar to do likewise.

Fantasies of violence against prominent Climate Sceptic scientists:

    Next
time I see Pat Michaels at a scientific meeting, I’ll be tempted to beat
the crap out of him. Very tempted.

Attempts to disguise the inconvenient truth of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP):

……Phil and I have recently submitted a paper using about a dozen NH records that fit this category, and many of which are available nearly 2K back–I think that trying to adopt a timeframe of 2K, rather than the usual 1K, addresses a good earlier point that Peck made w/ regard to the memo, that it would be nice to try to “contain” the putative “MWP”, even if we don’t yet have a hemispheric mean reconstruction available that far back….

And, perhaps most reprehensibly, a long series of communications discussing how best to squeeze dissenting scientists out of the peer review process. How, in other words, to create a scientific climate in which anyone who disagrees with AGW can be written off as a crank, whose views do not have a scrap of authority.

“This was the danger of always criticising the skeptics for not publishing in the “peer-reviewed literature”. Obviously, they found a solution to that–take over a journal! So what do we do about this? I think we have to stop considering “Climate Research” as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal. We would also need to consider what we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently sit on the editorial board…What do others think?”

“I will be emailing the journal to tell them I’m having nothing more to do with it until they rid themselves of this troublesome editor.”“It results from this journal having a number of editors. The responsible one for this is a well-known skeptic in NZ. He has let a few papers through by Michaels and Gray in the past. I’ve had words with Hans von Storch about this, but got nowhere. Another thing to discuss in Nice !”

Hadley CRU has form in this regard. In September – I wrote the story up here as “How the global warming industry is based on a massive lie” – Hadley CRU’s researchers were exposed as having “cherry-picked” data in order to support their untrue claim that global temperatures had risen higher at the end of the 20th century than at any time in the last millenium. Hadley CRU was also the organisation which – in contravention of all acceptable behaviour in the international scientific community – spent years withholding data from researchers it deemed unhelpful to its cause. This matters because Hadley CRU, established in 1990 by the Met Office, is a government-funded body which is supposed to be a model of rectitude. Its HadCrut record is one of the four official sources of global temperature data used by the IPCC.

I asked in my title whether this will be the final nail in the coffin of Anthropenic Global Warming. This was wishful thinking, of course. In the run up to Copenhagen, we will see more and more hysterical (and grotesquely exaggerated) stories such as this in the Mainstream Media. And we will see ever-more-virulent campaigns conducted by eco-fascist activists, such as this risible new advertising campaign by Plane Stupid showing CGI polar bears falling from the sky and exploding because kind of, like, man, that’s sort of what happens whenever you take another trip on an aeroplane.

The world is currently cooling; electorates are increasingly reluctant to support eco-policies leading to more oppressive regulation, higher taxes and higher utility bills; the tide is turning against Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming theory. The so-called “sceptical” view is now also the majority view.

Unfortunately, we’ve a long, long way to go before the public mood (and scientific truth) is reflected by our policy makers. There are too many vested interests in AGW, with far too much to lose either in terms of reputation or money, for this to end without a bitter fight.

But if the Hadley CRU scandal is true,it’s a blow to the AGW lobby’s credibility which is never likely to recover.

    Anti-Obama billboard stirs controversy
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – Call it Freedom of Speech. A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship.

The billboard, located at 4855 Miller Road, shows two cartoonish images of Obama wearing a Muslim turban and reads “PRESIDENT or JIHAD?”

It also says “BIRTH CERTIFICATE – PROVE IT!” alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President.

The words “WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!” appear on the bottom of the billboard.

The sign belongs to a car dealership.

“Since Fort Hood, I’ve had it,” owner Phil West told FOX 31 News Friday. “You can’t suggest things. You can’t profile. You gotta call a spade a spade.”

“Everything I have read about Mr. Obama points right to the fact that he is a Muslim. And that is the agenda of what Muslim is all about. It’s about anti-American, it’s about anti-Christianity,” West said.

The Anti-Defamation League condemned the sign, as did AM760 radio host David Sirota, who discussed the sign and interviewed West on his program Friday morning.

“It’s out of control,” Sirota said. “This conservative hatred of Barack Obama is out of contol, and this brings together all those strands of it: the racism, the anti-Muslim fervor. It’s one thing to criticise the president on health care, or Wall Street reform, or immigration. But this is outrageous. And I think it’s a fair question to ask why these questions about religion and ancestry are being directed so viciously at the first African-American President of the United States.”

While the ADL issued a statement calling the billboard an exploitation of the Ft. Hood shootings that is “divisive and offensive, and perpetuates hateful and harmful stereotypes about Muslims”, prominent conservatives have been silent thus far.

“That could suggest that conservative leaders are afraid to confront the extreme fringe of their base,” Sirota said. “Or it suggests they actually condone this message. Either way, it’s disturbing.”

Sirota is an unabashed liberal, but not all self-identified conservatives who drove past the sign Friday disagree with him.

“I’m not concerned with that at all,” said Linda Alexander, of Golden, in regard to the dispute over President Obama’s American citizenship. “He was elected, he’s the president — that’s it, as far as I’m concerned. Some people just can’t accept that, obviously.”

But Keith Walters, another passing driver, saw nothing wrong with the billboard.

“I can’t honestly say he’s a Jihadist, but there’s a lot of things that are questionable,” Walters said. “The whole birth certificate controversy. From what I’ve read, there’s no proof Obama isn’t a Muslim. And I don’t believe there’s any racism [in the billboard]. I think that should be a question asked to any president who — they have some questionable backgrounds.”

Supporters of the birth certificate theory, known as ‘Birthers,’ believe the Certification of Live Birth produced by the state of Hawaii is a forgery. (view the birth certificate)
