Palin to Obama: Hello? McFly? Anyone home?

Petroleum is a major part of America’s energy picture. Shall we get it here or abroad?
By Sarah Palin

Given that we’re spending billions of stimulus dollars to rebuild our highways, it makes sense to think about what we’ll be driving on them. For years to come, most of what we drive will be powered, at least in part, by diesel fuel or gasoline. To fuel that driving, we need access to oil. The less use we make of our own reserves, the more we will have to import, which leads to a number of harmful consequences. That means we need to drill here and drill now.

We rely on petroleum for much more than just powering our vehicles: It is essential in everything from jet fuel to petrochemicals, plastics to fertilizers, pesticides to pharmaceuticals. According to the Energy Information Administration, our total domestic petroleum consumption last year was 19.5 million barrels per day (bpd). Motor gasoline and diesel fuel accounted for less than 13 million bpd of that. Meanwhile, we produced only 4.95 million bpd of domestic crude. In other words, even if we ran all our vehicles on something else (which won’t happen anytime soon), we would still have to depend on imported oil. And we’ll continue that dependence until we develop our own oil resources to their fullest extent.

Those who oppose domestic drilling are motivated primarily by environmental considerations, but many of the countries we’re forced to import from have few if any environmental-protection laws, and those that do exist often go unenforced. In effect, American environmentalists are preventing responsible development here at home while supporting irresponsible development overseas.

My home state of Alaska shows how it’s possible to be both pro-environment and pro-resource-development. Alaskans would never support anything that endangered our pristine air, clean water, and abundant wildlife (which, among other things, provides many of us with our livelihood). The state’s government has made safeguarding resources a priority; when I was governor, for instance, we created a petroleum-systems-integrity office to monitor our oil and gas infrastructure for any potential environmental risks.

Alaska also shows how oil drilling is thoroughly compatible with energy conservation and renewable-energy development. Over 20 percent of Alaska’s electricity currently comes from renewable sources, and as governor I put forward a long-term plan to increase that figure to 50 percent by 2025. Alaska’s comprehensive plan identifies renewable options across the state that can help rural villages transition away from expensive diesel-generated electricity — allowing each community to choose the solution that best fits its needs. That’s important in any energy plan: Tempting as they may be to central planners, top-down, one-size-fits-all solutions are recipes for failure.

For the same reason, the federal government shouldn’t push a single, universal approach to alternative-powered vehicles. Electric cars might work in Los Angeles, but they don’t work in Alaska, where you can drive hundreds of miles without seeing many people, let alone many electrical sockets. And while electric and hybrid cars have their advantages, producing the electricity to power them still requires an energy source. For the sake of the environment, that energy should be generated from the cleanest source available.

Natural gas is one promising clean alternative. It contains fewer pollutants than other fossil fuels, it’s easier to collect and process, and it is found throughout our country. In Alaska, we’re developing the largest private-sector energy project in history — a 3,000-mile, $40 billion pipeline to transport hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of natural gas to markets across the United States. Onshore and offshore natural gas from Alaska and the Lower 48 can satisfy a large part of our energy needs for decades, bringing us closer to energy independence. Whether we use it to power natural-gas cars or to run natural-gas power plants that charge electric cars — or ideally for both — natural gas can act as a clean “bridge fuel” to a future when more renewable sources are available.

In addition to drilling, we need to build new refineries. America currently has roughly 150 refineries, down from over 300 in the 1970s. Due mainly to environmental regulations, we haven’t built a major new refinery since 1976, though our oil consumption has increased significantly since then. That’s no way to secure our energy supply. The post-Katrina jump in gas prices proved that we can’t leave ourselves at the mercy of a hurricane that knocks a few refineries out of commission.

Building an energy-independent America will mean a real economic stimulus. It will mean American jobs that can never be shipped overseas. Think about how much of our trade deficit is fueled by the oil we import — sometimes as much as half of the total. Through this massive transfer of wealth, we lose hundreds of billions of dollars a year that could be invested in our economy. Instead it goes to foreign countries, including some repressive regimes that use it to fund activities that threaten our security.

Reliance on foreign sources of energy weakens America. When a riot breaks out in an OPEC nation, or a developing country talks about nationalizing its oil industry, or a petro-dictator threatens to cut off exports, the probability is great that the price of oil will shoot up. Even in friendly nations, business and financial decisions made for local reasons can destabilize America’s energy market, since the price we pay for foreign oil is subject to rising and falling exchange rates. Decreasing our dependence on foreign sources of energy will reduce the impact of world events on our economy.

In the end, energy independence is not just about the environment or the economy. It’s about freedom and confidence. It’s about building a more secure and peaceful America, an America in which our energy needs will not be subject to the whims of nature, currency speculators, or madmen in possession of vast oil reserves.

Alternative sources of energy are part of the answer, but only part. There’s no getting around the fact that we still need to “drill, baby, drill!” And if those in D.C. say otherwise, we need to tell them: “Yes, we can!”

    Barack’s Ignoble Award
October 16, 2009 by Chip Wood

Well, now it’s official. Barack Hussein Obama has just won the highest honor that the elitists of the international left can bestow on one of their own.

His very own Nobel Peace Prize. Imagine that!

And what has our president done to deserve this lofty honor? Why, in the words of an infamous “Saturday Night Live” sketch, nothing, absolutely nothing. I’ll come back to that hilarious skit in a moment. But first, let’s look a little closer at the curious timing of Obama’s award.

Did you know that the Nobel Committee’s own regulations require that all nominations be postmarked by Feb. 1? This means that—if the rules were followed—Barack Obama was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize a mere 12 days after he was sworn into office.

Twelve days in office and he’s already being considered for a Nobel Peace Prize? Give me a break! Does anyone anywhere really believe that this is how it actually happened?

Let me suggest something that strikes me as incredibly obvious: The Nobel Committee broke its own rules to give Obama the award. Can’t you imagine a committee meeting with someone shouting the Norwegian equivalent of “Rules? Rules? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules.”

And of course it’s true. When it comes to honoring one of their own, and advancing the cause of their dubious socialist schemes, the elitists of the international left don’t need no stinkin’ rules. They can do whatever they want. That’s why they hate the very idea of being bound down by the chains of a constitution. These power-hungry sycophants always and everywhere love monopolies and dictatorships, so long as it’s one of their own who is in charge. That’s why they are so enraptured with the United Nations.

But I digress. The plain and simple fact is that this year’s selection was rigged. This is far from the first time that the noble idea of a “peace prize” was prostituted to serve the ignoble ambitions of the left.

Do you remember in 1994, when the Nobel Committee gave the honor to a thief and murderer named Yasser Arafat? It’s true that Arafat shared the award with the then-prime minister and foreign minister of Israel. But still, giving a “peace” prize to the father of modern terrorism? Arafat gloated about using the most heinous murder of innocent civilians to advance his aims.

Oh, by the way, he also stole tens of millions of dollars from the very Palestinians he supposedly led to finance a life of luxury on the French Riviera and various world capitals. In a sane world, he would have been tried for murder and executed.

Instead, he was the most frequent visitor to Bill Clinton’s White House among all so-called world leaders. What a travesty.

If that wasn’t enough to make you rush to the nearest vomitorium, how about the winners in 1973? In case you’ve forgotten, that’s when Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and North Vietnam’s Lu Duc Tho shared the award for negotiating the Vietnam peace accords. If you remember that Communists describe “peace” as “when all opposition has been eliminated,” then you’ll have to admit the committee got it right: Kissinger and gang made sure all opposition to a communist takeover of South Vietnam got slaughtered. Way to go, Mr. Secretary.

But you don’t have to be a mass murderer, or even open the door to it, to be honored by the Nobel Committee. Slavish devotion to the left’s latest cause is often enough. How else would you explain the selection two years ago of former Vice President Al Gore? Even if you bought into all the skewed science and deliberate deceptions in “An Inconvenient Truth,” can you really contend with a straight face that he deserved a Nobel Peace Prize?

Well, okay, I’ll grant you. He has done more to earn it than our Teleprompter-in-Chief. But that’s not saying much.

By an extraordinary coincidence, two days before the award was announced, “Saturday Night Live” opened its Oct. 3 show with a skit skewering Barack Obama for accomplishing “nothing, absolutely nothing” since Inauguration Day.

In case you missed it, the sketch featured actor Fred Armisen portraying the president and delivering a very sober speech to the American public. Here’s just part of that delicious put-down:

“There are those on the right who are angry. They think that I’m turning this great country into something that resembles the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. But that’s just not the case. When you look at my record, it’s very clear what I’ve done so far—and that is nothing. Nada. Almost one year and nothing to show for it.”

As he spoke, a checklist of promises appeared on the screen—global warming, immigration reform, gays in the military, limits on executive power, torture prosecutions, closing Guantanamo Bay, withdrawing from Iraq, healthcare reform, and so on. Armisen, as Obama, admitted very honestly how little his administration had accomplished.

“Remember,” he said. “I can do whatever I want. I have a majority in both houses of Congress. I could make it mandatory for all gays to marry, and require all cars to run on marijuana. But do I? NO!”

He then closed with this wonderful admission: “So looking at this list, I’m seeing two big accomplishments: JACK and SQUAT!”

You’ve got to admit, sometimes the liberals get it right.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

    —Chip Wood

    Sharpton: Limbaugh’s Op-Ed Defamatory

Peter Kramer / AP PhotoReverend Al Sharpton is threatening to file suit against Rush Limbaugh for an op-ed published Saturday, which Sharpton says “erroneously” describes him as involved in violent activities in New York in the early 90s. Sharpton “played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews ‘diamond merchants’) and 1995 Freddie’s Fashion Mart riot,” Limbaugh wrote in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in which he describes the “intimidation tactics” used to push him out of the world of the NFL. The Crown Heights riot began after a Hasidic rabbi ran over and killed an African American boy with his car by accident. Four nights of rioting followed. Sharpton rallied on behalf of the boy’s family and the African American community. “Mr. Limbaugh’s blatant and defamatory statements regarding the Crown Heights Riots falsely give the impression that Rev. Sharpton was present during the violence that occurred when in reality he had been called in by the family after the violence,” Sharpton’s statement says. He is demanding Limbaugh apologize or clarify his remarks or he will move forward with a lawsuit. Limbaugh’s bid for the St. Louis Rams was overshadowed by controversy over Limbaugh’s race-related comments.

AIM’s Kincaid Applauds FOX News Channel’s Firing of Marc Lamont Hill

WASHINGTON, October 16, 2009–Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid today welcomed FOX News Channel’s decision to fire cop-killer apologist Marc Lamont Hill as a paid analyst. Kincaid learned of Hill’s firing this morning at the annual meeting of News Corporation, the parent company of FOX News, in New York City. Accuracy in Media is a News Corp. shareholder.

Kincaid was in the middle of raising a question that he has asked in a series of recent columns – namely, while properly questioning how the Obama Administration could possibly have hired Van Jones, with his radical background, how did FOX News hire Marc Lamont Hill as an analyst, when Hill had an easily documentable record in support of cop-killers.

Before Kincaid completed the background for his question, News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch interrupted Kincaid to say that he appreciated Cliff’s work on this matter, and that Hill had been “fired” last week.

Kincaid announced that he will have more to say on this in the coming days. His previous columns on Marc Lamont Hill are available on the AIM website.

Socialism leads to Communism. Read Lenin. They don’t teach it in school anymore. You’ve been indoctrinated and it’s not your fault. But I will make fun of you anyway. As for treating everyone equal… The elite get it great. The rest are treated equally like shit.

    Stupid, stupid lefty losers.

  76. Foxwood says:

It’s funny that the lefty losers think we’re nuts, when in fact they are under schooled and don’t know, or understand history.

It makes me happy to point out your intellectual deficiencies.

  77. Foxwood says:

It’s not your fault that you were little in grade school and jyour Socialist/Commie teachers (indoctrinators) made you drink the koolaid, and now you like drinking it. Your under developed little brain can’t understand the truth. But that’s is what your teachers intended.

I don’t make fun of you. I make fun of your stupidity.

    The sleaziness is sooo common.

Those with an IQ of at least 100 know we know what we are talking about and why we defend Free Market… and why they want to destroy it.

The rest of them are just idiot goons… without a clue.

  80. VotingFemale says:

That was the problem at iReport… a few, like BXL, had the intellect to rationally discourse… the rest were merely low life junk yard dogs who tried to use Rule 5 on me personally while I applied Rule 5 to Obama and Pelosi and Reid, and the rest of that Communist gang.

  81. VotingFemale says:

and then there was “mab91c”s, the “can’t we all avoid using Rule 5?” types…

We fight fire with fire… and I go after politicians.

We can not be the only side to be non-RFR users in this… we use what ever works within the bounds of the rule of law… and let the Communists get busted for law breaking ala ACORN

Obama’s Energy Czar: Socialist Agent For World Government

Socialist International scrubs Carol Browner but deep connections to Bilderberg and globalist agenda remain

    Paul Joseph Watson
    Propaganda Matrix
    Friday, January 9, 2009

Barack Obama’s “climate czar” Carol Browner has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International, a highly influential group headed by a Bilderberg Group luminary that calls for the implementation of global government, despite Socialist International’s attempts to seemingly “memory-hole” information about Browner on their website.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that Obama and his cabinet are preparing to exploit fearmongering about global warming to push new measures of taxation, regulation and internationalism. Obama himself has vigorously promoted the revival of a bill that would slash carbon emissions by 80 per cent, a move that would inflict a new Great Depression, cost millions of jobs, and sink America to near third world status.

Obama has also publicly stated his intention to create a new infrastructure of “green brigades” and informants to regulate every aspect of our behavior in the name of saving the planet under the guise of a “national civilian security force,” a cadre we are guaranteed will be as strong or stronger than the U.S. Army.

To carry out this agenda, Obama is busy filling his cabinet with extremists who are members of organizations that are openly hostile to America remaining a free market society and a sovereign country.

Carol Browner, who is is slated to be Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change in the Obama Administration, is a member of Socialist International, a group that calls for the institution of “democratic forms of global governance as the foundation for building a peaceful and sustainable world society overall.”

That’s funny, because I don’t remember reading anywhere in the Constitution, the document that Obama will swear to uphold at his inauguration on January 20, about “global governance” or the need to implement it. Indeed, global governance in any form is inherently undemocratic because it centralizes more power into fewer hands.

Socialist International’s charter of principles also states that “A principal task of new global governance must be to ensure that the benefits of global economic growth and the opportunities for economic development are distributed fairly” (a ‘benign’ socialist world government).

The group also calls for a new international financial framework to replace Bretton Woods, a proposal that Obama has staunchly advocated.

Socialist International has deep connections with the Bilderberg Group. The former President of Socialist International, António Guterres, is a Bilderberg member, as is current President George A. Papandreou. Other Socialist International vice-presidents include Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak and Gordon Brown, the current British Prime Minister.

At the Congress of the Socialist International held last June 30-July 2, the organization all but announced its plan to mandate an international tax in the name of combating global warming. “Market solutions alone are insufficient and will not provide the financial support and resources necessary to achieve the required combination of deep emission reduction, adaptation to already changing climate conditions, energy security and equitable and environmentally sound economic development,” according to the group.

“Again, that’s bureaucratese,” writes the DC Examiner, “It means that international taxes should be imposed to provide the “resources necessary” to impose what the CSWS repeatedly refers to as a ‘regime” against “global warming.” By appointing Browner to a White House post, Obama has at the least implicitly endorsed an utterly radical socialist agenda for his administration’s environmental policy. The incoming chief executive thus strengthens critics who contend environmental policies aren’t really about protecting endangered species or preserving virgin lands, but rather expanding government power and limiting individual freedom.”

“Conservatives are often accused of scaremongering when they claim left-wing environmentalists are actually socialists hiding behind green disguises. But with Carol Browner, incoming President Barack Obama’s freshly appointed Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change – the so-called White House “Climate Czar” – there is no question about the socialism.”

Oddly enough, as soon as blogs began talking about Browner’s socialist affiliations, the Socialist International website scrubbed from its web site the fact that President-elect Obama’s energy/environment czar was an official with SI.

As the Junk Science blog notes, “If there’s nothing wrong with an acknowledged socialist being a top Obama administration official, then what’s up with the mysterious and Stalinist-like disappearance of Browner from SI’s web site?” Junk Science was able to save a PDF file showing Browner’s photo on the website as of January 2, but you won’t find it there now.

  84. samhenry says:

Typo… I meant the DNC I will edit that

    VF – you have said:

Google Carol Browner… a full blown Socialist who’s trail the RNC started scrubbing from the internet when she was being preped to be the Climate/Energy CZAR.

    Did you mean DNC?

Good morning VF and FOX and Sami if you are still here.

  85. samhenry says:

Perhaps the socialism and marxism that is rampant in the administration is why they cannot see connectivity in issues and organizations in the economy as it exists NOW. They are more interested in overthrowing it.

  86. Foxwood says:

    Morning SamH.

Hope the cannon fire didn’t wake you too early…

  87. samhenry says:

No FOX, since knowing you, my start to work hours have been revised to between 4:30 and six AM.

I’m slated for a hearing test in November. Then we will see the effect of the cannon on my ear drums.

  88. Foxwood says:

Yeah, I got to get a seeing test done… I don’t know how many times I had to look down that barrel to see if the thing was lit…

  89. Foxwood says:

And when that cannon ball hits you on the forehead you get a HEADACHE!!!

  90. VotingFemale says:

just fixed it SamH thanks dear

  91. VotingFemale says:

Obama is a Communist… thus he sees the connectivity and it is why he is selecting communists and marxist who will do the bidding… as opposed to liberal moderates who support the Free Market system.

That Hillary is one such liberal is why the DNC threw her under the bus. At first I thought it was all about sexism. It was about Idology and the Grand Plan to Fundamentally Transform America, which Obama swore to do…

Now he says “bring it on I can take it… I am just getting started… I am going to do this (in spite of any resistance from the majority of America who no longer approves of me.

  92. VotingFemale says:

Obama is mocking the majority of America… that he is more powerful than they are… and he is going to transform the US into a communist controlled country and they are going to lose.

He is projecting “it is in the bag.”

and thus, offers proof… he does not understand Americans.

  93. Foxwood says:

Obutthole knows he will lose his majority in Congress in 2010. That is why he has to shove it down our throats.

I for one will not eat a crap sandwich.

  94. Foxwood says:

Hillary is more of a Patriot than Obutthole will ever be.

  95. Foxwood says:

‘He is projecting “it is in the bag.”‘

    It’s in the bag… it’s a sack of sh!t.

  96. samhenry says:

Well, he has turned a little “manic” (a subject in which I am well versed) and is rushing from one funding area to another. Now grans like me will see a check for $250 that will not do me or any other gran very much good. Just create some jobs with the money slated to go to the grans and you will have social security taxes being paid but of course Oblindo can’t see this.

  97. Foxwood says:

A whopping $250… That could last all year if you manage it… yeah right.

Opps, Sorry for the whopping comment Sami.

  98. Foxwood says:

He’s hoping to buy off the AARPers SamH. That’s not going to do it.

  99. samhenry says:

We former AARPers are on to this administration and the deals they have no doubt made prior to the legislation having even been passed.

  100. samiam60 says:

Obama is getting his arse handed to him by not only his own party but libs, moderates, and conservatives. Independent’s have come from both parties and a rapidly becoming a force to reckoned with. I am not worried about the 2012 election as I feel strongly that Obama is going to be exposed in a bad way and force to resign.

  101. Foxwood says:

    BRB… gotta shower.

  102. VotingFemale says:

    almost done with new blogpost…
