Obama Slammed by CBS over Obama Health Care Propaganda; You just can’t make this stuff up!

The White House Press Corps Briefing yesterday turned into an all out cat fight between Obama’s Press Spokesman Bobby Gibbs and both Chip Reid of CBS and the infamous Helen Thomas.

Both Chip Reid, and Helen  Thomas (a died in the wool Socialist  Obama Worshiper), slammed the Obama Administration during the White House press conference Wednesday, July 1, 2009, for the totally obvious White House’s exclusive engineering of a one-sided Obama Health Care Infomercial in the guise of a “Town Hall Meeting” which aired live via all TV media outlets, including FOX News, Wednesday, July 1, 2009.

Gee… didn’t ABC do that SAME EXACT THING for Obama JUST LAST WEEK??? ON AIR??? DURING PRIME TIME??? The ABC Who Got Rightfully Slammed for it by FOX NEWS???

Think CBS is jealous of the Obama-ABC love fest and is now going for some media-on-media infighting?

It is waaay too late for ABC or CBS or NBC to now save themselves and their “in the toilet” ratings.

ABC, ala Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, sold out the American Public long ago on the Propaganda Alter of Obama the Enchanted One.

Let’s watch the fire works as these two pop verbal caps into little Bobby Gibbs’ fanny in a two-on-one Smack Down:

Folks… this is historic, when CBS and the White House gets into an Obama Honeymoon Love Fight over manufacturing of propaganda with which to feed the public with Socialist BS De Jour.

With a tear in our eye… sniff …as we listen to Love Hurts by Nazereth…
Let’s see what was reported by NewsBusters on this…

Helen Thomas, Chip Reid Question White House Control of Media

By Mitchell Blatt (Bio | Archive)
July 1, 2009 – 20:47 ET

The press corps might be starting to sour on Barack Obama’s administration.

At a press conference today, Helen Thomas and CBS’s Chip Reid got into it with Robert Gibbs over how the administration has been prepackaging media events.

First Reid asked why the questions for Wednesday’s town hall on healthcare were being preselected. After Gibbs tried to dodge that question a few times, Thomas became involved, saying, “We have never had that in the White House. I’m amazed that you people … call for openness and transparency.”

Thomas said that the administration was trying to control the media, and she pointed out how they coordinated questions with the Huffington Post at a press conference. Thomas is not the first journalist to question the White House’s coordination with the Huffington Post. The Washington Post’s Dana Milbank also took the White House to task for the coordination.

Wednesday’s press conference was also not the only media event that was in some way coordinated. Previous town halls have featured Obama campaign supporters and Democratic politicians lobbing softballs at Obama.

As Thomas noted, “[Obama’s] formal engagements are prepackaged.”

After Gibbs continued to dodge questions, Thomas said, “Of course you would, because you don’t have any answers.”

Before the exchange ended, Reid asked Gibbs to pass along this question to Obama: “Is he going to support a tax increase on the middle class?”

Afterwards, Thomas told CNS News that Obama’s grip on the media is even greater than that of Richard Nixon.

Nixon didn’t try to do that.  They couldn’t control [the media]. They didn’t try that.  What the hell do they think we are, puppets?  They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants.  We pay them.  …  I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well–for the town halls, for the press conferences.  It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.

The full exchange between Thomas and Gibbs is below:

HELEN THOMAS: We have never had that in the White House. We have had some control [inaudible]. I’m amazed that you people who call for openness and transparency…

ROBERT GIBBS: You haven’t even heard the questions.

CHIP REID: It doesn’t matter. It’s the process.  Even if there’s a tough question, it’s a question coming from somebody who was invited and who was screened or the question was screened.

GIBBS: Chip, Chip, lets have this discussion at the conclusion of the town hall meetings.

THOMAS: No, no, no, we’re having it now.

GIBBS: Well, I’d be happy to have it now.

THOMAS: It’s a pattern.

GIBBS: Which questions do you object to at the town hall meeting?

THOMAS: It’s a pattern.

GIBBS: What’s a pattern?

THOMAS: It’s a pattern of controlling the press.

GIBBS: How so? Is there any evidence going on that I’m currently controlling the press? Poorly, I might add.

THOMAS: Your formal engagements are prepackaged.

GIBBS: How so?

REID: Well, and controlling the public.

THOMAS: How so? By calling reporters the night before to tell them they’re going to be called on. That is shocking.

GIBBS: We’ve had this discussion ad nauseum, and uh…

THOMAS: Of course you would, because you don’t have any answers.

GIBBS: Uh, well, because I didn’t know you were going to ask a question, Helen.

THOMAS: Well you should have.

GIBBS: Have you emailed your question today?

THOMAS: I don’t have to email. I can tell you right now what I want to say.

GIBBS: I don’t doubt that at all, Helen.

REID: Actually, could you pass along a question from all of us to the president: Is he going to support a tax increase on the middle class?

  1. m2 says:

    OH M G!!!!

EAT IT GIBBS! THANK YOU CHIP!
    Call out their STATIST Bull-Shiz!

  2. SamHenry says:

Well part of the pattern is to appoint that laughable, affable Press Secretary. We’re supposed to think that somone so nice could not possibly be manipulating us or telling us lies.

Face it, Obama has been a master at launching all kinds of new ways of doing things and it is to throw us off. While we are busy complaining about these new ways, he gets his stealth legislation primed for passage and Nancy Pelosi escapes to yet another exotic destination. In this Administration, the only truth-teller appears to be our tongue-tripping Vice-President whose “bunker” is in a trailer park in Tyson’s Corners, VA under a vacant store front.

  3. SamHenry says:

Correction – Biden is in trailer park not under store front although part of the Obama strategy could be confusion of this type.

PS Did you notice that the Fed Gov has grabbed all of the parks in California? Just like GM. They’re seriously going green.

  4. m2 says:

What they want to say is “WHY ARE YOU FILTERING free speech?”

wow Gibbs looks like the chump he is, made so by Helen Thomas- rawsome.

I once had a teacher who knew nothing about “teaching” students. Her class became a complete joke, a mockery. The students had no respect for her… they acted out, we acted out. I could have taught that class. Helen Thomas is pointing out that Gibbs is the same as that idiot teacher. It’s been 6 months, but he won’t last another 6 at this rate. How embarrassing. But I couldn’t expect more from an idiotic administration who tries to do thing by arrogance, and not by the will of the people.

  5. m2 says:

SH, I remember Gibbs from the campaign. He’s not a friendly guy- he is an extension of the arrogance of Rahm/Nancy/Barack. He’s also so ivy league elite, that he thinks he is smart. I remember Jim Lehr talking to him, and he is nothing more than an angry Leftist windbag. Not even intelligent.

Dana Perino could run circles around him.

She also has another quality he doesn’t…
    professionalism.

  6. SamHenry says:

The Obama smile no longer stretches coast to coast anymore. And did I read it here – yesterday I read where Obama has lost most of the liberal Republicans and independents who voted for him. Yea! Let’s hear it for the dawg – ahroooo.

  7. rosehips says:

vf, I thought it was ABC that aired the infomercial for health care reform.

did you see the vid I posted yesterday with the Huff Post guy? I think Helen et al are exagerating about the pre-coordinating. I think it was good to get a question directly from an Iranian protester. Okay, it’s all politics and we are being manipulated. I understand that. But I’d probably want to do the same thing. Obama is all about p.r., but I guess it’s backfiring.

  8. m2 says:

I was surprised they hired him for that job. Since he’s been there, I actually haven’t heard a direct answer to a question, (which I suspect, is what has HT’s panties ruffled)… but then I thought… Who else would they put there? Most liberals aren’t able to be honest?

    He’s not.
That’s why he steps around and avoids at all costs.

  9. SamHenry says:

Rost – if he wanted a question from an Iranian member of the press, all that had to happen is that Gibbs had to call on him when his hand was up. They crossed the line when they contacted him the night before and said they were going to call on him and said god knows what else. That is a kind of intimidation to draw the press under your wind like that – that kind of contact. It’s beyond hideous. It is another example of hubris on the part of this Administration.

  10. VotingFemale says:

Gibbs looks like a rosy cheeked cherub with a “don’t pick on poor little me” pouty face. Wonder who does his make-up…

  11. VotingFemale says:

You obviously have not read this blogpost, dear… that is stated and is a main point in this blogpost.
    ;)

    rosehips says

vf, I thought it was ABC that aired the infomercial for health care reform.

  12. m2 says:

How can you think they are exaggerating about pre-coordination (ie. hand-selecting ppl sympathetic to their sell)? That’s all this administration does. Day in and day out. They even fired Amtrak guy and put in a Hillary/Biden campaign supporter with no experience for the job. Her only experience being social justice… not business.

  13. SamHenry says:

Good pre-election look back at Gibbs, M2. Thanks. I think if I read tone and body language correctly that that snake actually made fun of Helen Thomas – do you?

  14. m2 says:

You know who else hand picks ppl and questions to give the appearance of freedom?

    Chavez

    Castro Brothers…

    etc.

  15. VotingFemale says:

And, I quote from this blogpost:

Gee… didn’t CBS do that SAME EXACT THING for Obama JUST LAST WEEK??? ON AIR??? DURING PRIME TIME??? The CBS Who Got Rightfully Slammed for it by FOX NEWS???

Think CBS is trying to now do damage control?

It is waaay too late for CBS to now save themselves and their “in the toilet” ratings.

CBS, ala Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, sold out the American Public long ago on the Propaganda Alter of Obama the Enchanted One.

  16. m2 says:

Yes I do SH. I think he is an arrogant jackoff.
I think when the admin. is questioned, they make it appear as though “you have the audacity to question me?” -even though it is NORMAL and PROPER to question. It is their duty. The duty of the Free Press.

We all must understand. The primary goal of this administration is the opposite of transparency, and to make what is normal become abnormal.

As you see, most of liberal countrymen are herded into the pens and told that Republicanism is abnormal. These are the same mindsets that gassed Jews in Germany and elsewhere.

  17. SamHenry says:

I notice the President’s Friday night dates are no longer covered (he knows how to ditch the press – he wanted to get caught eating ice cream) and that Mrs. Obama has not been highlighted. It is what we are not seeing from them that is just as important as what we are not. This is all orchestrated. He could also have learned it is not a good idea to go out for ice cream when there are men in harm’s way in Afghanistan. The area he sent them into is really tough – littered with rusted Soviet tanks. As in Viet Nam, we think we can do what others have tried and failed to do.

  18. m2 says:

I am proud of Helen Thomas… and Chip.

But moreso Helen. Because you guys know, I am sure- that Helen is a liberal. And I see her actually taking a moral stand against Statism, and suppression of free speech. Not herded and told what to think, but standing up for genuine qualities of Americanism, freedom, even “real” liberalism.

Kudos to Helen for calling a spade a spade. And using Common Sense.

  19. SamHenry says:

RE putting press and people in position of appearing to be asking improper questions – EXCELLENT analysis, M2 and powerful parallel with Nazi Germany’s mindset.

  20. m2 says:

Ms. Obama is busy demanding an office in the WH. And they’re both setting up the stage for directly post-healthcare.

Statism in Schools. And “service” to the State.

    That’s what she’s doing.

  21. VotingFemale says:

Obama loves to be Worshipped by the Press; that is a given… But… what Obama hates is the lack of his personal, absolute, and total control of the US Media…

  22. SamHenry says:

VF highlighting the Obama control fettish is central.

mr – I had no idea Misch was lobbying for a west wing office. I thought she had been opposed to it? Ah, she probably needed a place to stash her vast reference collection – the one she consults daily so that she can make powerful points at her visits to school children in DC – that is the level she uses to address us. I hate her little sweaters and her belts. She is too fat for both.

  23. m2 says:

Isn’t that funny VF. That someone like him, who professes to have such life “experience” among the “oppressed”… still has such an entitled arrogance as though he is above scrutiny.

He actually thinks he is above the Office of the Presidency.

How could he not? Dictating now to the car industry, bank industry, and hiring his own personal Czars…

He really has some psychiatric issues.

  24. VotingFemale says:

I perceive the Obama Suck-UP Media smells ObamaCare blood in the water and are now maneuvering to distance themselves from a total Fawning as they have been doing before the Honeymoon was over…

Hedging their Bets and all that…

  25. VotingFemale says:

M2, it is clear as a bell… Obama has a GOD COMPLEX

  26. m2 says:

I think Michelle is strangely, oddly attractive. But her attitude and hatred of people is what rots her character.

  27. rosehips says:

    hey ladies!

sh, it was Obama who called on the Huff Post guy. Here’s the vid I posted yesterday:

  28. rosehips says:

I have said from the beginning that Gibbs should go. I never thought he was very good.

  29. VotingFemale says:

That Obama withholds his Long Form Birth Certificate is telling… Don’t Question God…

  30. SamHenry says:

Why M2, I’m surprised you would diagnose our Prez – the one with Manic Depression! His arrogance comes from the smugness gleaned from living abroad and feeling that most poor slobs int the US can’t know what he has known living with divergent peoples. Add the cherry on top of the Harvard education and it is a recipe for hatred of patriots whom he sees as simple minded I am sure.

  31. VotingFemale says:

Rose… who do you think would be a better WH Press Secretary?

I vote for Michelle Obama ;)

  32. m2 says:

SH, he doesn’t hate patriots. He hates whites.

  33. m2 says:

    and patriots…

  34. m2 says:

    and Americans. Ha ha ha.

  35. m2 says:

and anyone working for himself and not Union.

  36. m2 says:

    and the Queen of England.

  37. SamHenry says:

Obama knows that if he makes ANY comment about the birth certificate that it would legtimize questioning of his movives and actions. There is simply a united front at the WH against anyone talking about it. I think Biden has a copy of it in his trailer in the pocket of his plush puce colored Archie Bunker recliner.

  38. VotingFemale says:

    Holy Crap Batgirl!!!

    NBC Slams Michelle Obama?

If there were ever any doubts the Press/Obama Honeymoon is OVER… let there be no further doubts… OMG!!!

    m2 says

oh look, NBC refers to her as “Queen”
    http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/us_world/Queen_Michelle_the_First_.html

  39. m2 says:

I think Helen Thomas just made the “list”.

I’m guessing her retirement accts. will be eerily liquidated by one of the Government owned banks, and Obama-placed “manager” who’s only background is social justice.

  40. SamHenry says:

Ah, the Queen M2, you have touched upon a very sore point I have with the white-hating Prez/

  41. m2 says:

Well now, we are just the “bitter religious gun-clingers” afterall, SH. Would he expect any more from us, his countrymen that he serves?

  42. tellitlikeitis says:

I suppose the liberal media is finally tired of being treated like a fool by president Obama and company. At least fox news doesn’t kiss his ass.

  43. VotingFemale says:

m2, do you realize we both initially posted about Michelle at the exact same time at 9:34 am?

I had no idea you were going to comment about Michelle…

    lol

  44. SamHenry says:

It’s a sad day, M2, when a 67 year old woman has to go around in these United States with a rifle in one hand and two dog leashes in the other to be heard and to feel safe.

Can’t believe that as I write about the dogs, one of their number is treating me to some extraordinarily pungent dog gas -ughh

  45. m2 says:

I was just reading about the Inspector Gen. firing-gate, from June 17, and this comment is great:

“One has to especially highlight: “…the Inspectors General Reform Act, which requires the President to give Congress 30 days notice, plus a reason, before firing an inspector general. A co-sponsor of that bill was none other than Senator Obama…”

It seems as if Mr. Obama cannot rise above it all, contrary to the sales pitch.”

  46. VotingFemale says:

tellit, FOX News is not in the tank for Obama but I have seen some Obama ass kissing from fox… if for nothing more than to be able to say they are fair and balanced.

  47. SamHenry says:

That’s it! All the Press Corps has to do is what the French Did to the English in Python’s “Holy Grail” – “fart upon him (Gibbs)!

  48. m2 says:

    Man without limits.
and not given to him- but taken by him.

    Theme of this presidency.

  49. VotingFemale says:

lol SamH! Advocating can be thankless, girl!

I think Gibbs is a fitting WH SpokesChurb lol

Again… who would you pick for the job?

    rosehips says

I have said from the beginning that Gibbs should go. I never thought he was very good.

  51. rosehips says:

vf, I dunno. I would have said Al Franken, but I guess he’s gonna be busy for the next 5.5 years. lol

vf said: Rose… who do you think would be a better WH Press Secretary?

  52. VotingFemale says:

I say let Michelle be the WH Press Spokesperson…

That! I would pay to see!

    rosehips says

I have said from the beginning that Gibbs should go. I never thought he was very good.

  53. VotingFemale says:

Al Franken is a Senator… that will not work.

    pick someone else!

  54. rosehips says:

very few press secretaries are high profile. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of one before he/she was appointed. I’m sure there are better candidates than Gibbs.

  55. SamHenry says:

What we have here is a President, an ad-hoc Vice-President (Michele) and a vice-President in Absentia (his evolving title). But behind all of this is that infernal Raum (spelling). He is the man behind the curtain.

  56. VotingFemale says:

Bobby Gibbs, a Barney Frank Look Alike

  57. VotingFemale says:

But… I don’t have any problem with Gibbs being the WH SpokesChrub… hahahahahahahahaha

  58. SamHenry says:

Vf – here for the very first time you are decidedly incorrect: No one looks like Barney Frank – moves like Barney Frank – talks like Barney Frank (apologies to those with serious speech issues).

  59. rosehips says:

gee, vf. you sure are testing me. I would not know a good candidate. remember I am not a democrat. They need to find a loyal Obamite democrat. It would need to be someone who Obama can control. why would I know who is best for that? Again, I don’t think it would be someone any of us knows.

  60. VotingFemale says:

Rhambo??? ahhhhh but he is handsome though… I would like to “Friend” him

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  61. m2 says:

Wow. Tony Snow was the best, and Dana Perino was smart as a whip. So professional, so quick to answer with real meat and potatoes. I guess the Press Corps had it good back then. Someone actually intellectual and could think on their feet. Instead, now they have Gibbs. Who’s more interested in talking down to them if he doesn’t want to answer a question with honesty. He’s about as qualified as a High School teacher.

  62. SamHenry says:

I’m sorry, all, but this is fast becoming a gas chamber. I have to move upstairs to computer lair #2.

  63. m2 says:

I would pay to see some of Rahmbo’s old twirls and pirouettes. I bet he’s real pretty and graceful when he whips out his ballet past.

  64. tellitlikeitis says:

Gibbs is punch drunk. I don’t think he could find his head if it wasn’t attached to his body. He reminds me of the punching Bozo I use to have as a child.

  65. rosehips says:

yeah sh, there is only one barney.

  66. VotingFemale says:

Rose… that is why I think Gibbs is in the right job… totally compliant and complete lap puppy who has milk teeth

  67. m2 says:

a steak knife in one hand, a tutu on his waste. What a sight! Surely these are the mental attitudes we need roaming the halls of Capitol Hill. They can really do something for America!

M2… this mauling of Gibbs is still in it’s infancy…

wait till Gibbs blows a gasket on camera ;)

  69. m2 says:

You know it’s bad when a Socialist like Helen wishes for the old days when Press Corps Sec. used to actually answer questions in honesty and without motive nor stonewalling arrogance.

She must be wishing for Dana to come back.

  70. tellitlikeitis says:

I think Barney Frank uses a spermicide face cream.

    ?

  84. rosehips says:

Did you see my link I left yesterday about Gov Palin challenging Obama to a race? What’s up with that? oy vey.

I’d love to see it though. heehee

  85. SamHenry says:

Ah, Rose, it wasn’t until after WWII we were seen as saviors. The German Jews of 1937 were looking to Britain – you remember Britain – and Chamberlain who boasted of friendship with Hitler just as war broke out. They were also looking to France and all of the other so called “free” states of Europe.

  86. m2 says:

maybe I’m mistaking your implication, but when you say, you can’t expect perfection from elected people and then say that we harm them by pointing out their misdeads… it sounds to me like you are defending wrongness.

    that is how it sounds…

  87. rosehips says:

sh, thank you for the history lesson. I have never been good with dates or history. I depend on historians like you to keep me informed. you are a valuable resource my friend. ;-)

  88. m2 says:

I have to disagree about that Rose, There were fictional movies about assassinating Bush. What would an Obama supporter think if the same were created for him. And it hasn’t so don’t say it will be in the future. And also, Conservatives just shook their heads at the lunacy of the Left to create garbage.

If conservatives did the same, which we wouldn’t because we’re not like liberals. I think the Left would cause an uproar.

  89. SamHenry says:

I hate to leave one of the best debates on the blog but I must …sorry have to move fast. Rose threatens to leash me ….

Dog Overbooooooaaaaaaaaaardddddd! Splash, sigh of relief, swimming briskly to shore.

  90. rosehips says:

m2, please don’t get me wrong. I am all about questioning authority. I really am. But I am not so sure that destroying authority will be best. I really don’t know. I am politically agnostic I guess. All my ideals have been shattered. I thought Obama was the closest we would come to positive changes and I realize now I was naiive. It’s difficult to accept.

  91. rosehips says:

    sh, see ya later?

Really, ACORN is set about to destroy the democratic ‘system’ -that is their goal… yet you support them.

I’m not trying to be personal, I’m just angry at what is happening to the country and the loss of basic morals and common sense.

    Stop giving money to ACORN.
    Simple things like that.

Dog jumping excitedly on shore and mimicking Al Pacino – “are you talking to me”? Ha Ha!

  94. m2 says:

    Nancy should have stepped down.

    Wrangle should have stepped down.

The Gov. of SC should step down for disappearing and not leaving anyone in charge.

Common sense. Call a spade a spade. And we all win.

  95. m2 says:

Don’t tell me ACORN helps. It is know facts that they are being prosecuted, their owners were embezzlers and SOROS has had a hand in helping them. Whatever good they are meant to have been is null and void when laws are broken.

That is how you maintain stability in a democratic republic.

  96. m2 says:

    I’m going to my momma’s house…

    Talk to you guys later.
    Bye SH, rose, VF, tellit!

  97. SamHenry says:

Dog shouting from shore – M2 – the first two should step down in disgrace; the Gov should be quietly removed to a mental facility.

  98. rosehips says:

and I also want to say that I think the Obama admin needs to show the visitor logs to the WH and I personally want to see who from the coal industry has been sleeping over at the Obama’s abode.
If the coal industry gets any passes on polluting and disposing of their toxic wastes w/o regard to health issues created by the coal ash, not to mention the environmental impacts of mountain top removal of coal and don’t forget mercury and SO2 emissions etc etc…I will be on a rampage.

Economy to Stay Weak ‘For a Number of Years’: Gross.
The slide in employment is representative of what the U.S. economy faces for years to come, Pimco co-chief investment officer Bill Gross told CNBC.

    Bill Gross
    ——————————————————————————–

A slow-growth scenario continues to play out as consumers who are losing their jobs or are in fear of facing unemployment cut spending and inhibit economic growth, said Gross, who helps manage the world’s largest bond fund at Pacific Investment Management.

He spoke after a government report showed the economy lost 467,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate moved to 9.5 percent.

“Much like we saw with the Depression, attitudes change, and so consumers and investors will now become conservative savers as opposed to spenders,” Gross said in a live interview. “Spending as driven by asset appreciation in terms of houses … that game stops, that game has stopped and we must now move in another direction.”

Keeping with his recent forecasts, Gross said real gross domestic product likely will grow at just 1 to 2 percent annually for the next generation or so.

In that type of situation, government will have no choice but to keep up its deficit spending programs to keep the economy moving.

“The question becomes, can we maintain that level of spending?” Gross said. “I think it’s necessary over the next year or two simply because the consumer provides a void in terms of the economic hand and so, yes, the government must continue to spend, must continue to provide new forms of stimulus whether it’s in the form of low interest rates and monetary policy or fiscal policy going forward.”

Yet the government also will have to confront the reality of a weakening currency and the problems that will lead to in terms of global investors willing to put money into the U.S.

    see you m2!

I only support ACORN to the point that I think they have done a lot of good throughout their controversial existence. I really only knew them through friends in NYC who worked for them in the 80′s. I didn’t know anything about the founders or their agenda or mission.

I think people overblow the influence of ACORN. It is just a gut feeling. But I understand that there are some things going on behind closed doors to protect them. They have become corrupted and too big. I don’t know if they should just be shut down or not. They probably should. There is a need for advocates for the poor in our poorest communities. I am confident that others will fill the niche.

Ok… I went scouting for the “challenge” and it was tongue in cheek… and it is a quip from the Aug 2009 issue of Runner’s World Magazine.

    http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-410–13221-0,00.html

    Stories From Real Runners
    I’M A RUNNER: SARAH PALIN

From the August 2009 issue of Runner’s World

    Occupation: Governor of Alaska
    Age: 45
    Residence: Wasilla, Alaska

    When did you start running?
I grew up in a running family. My parents caught the running craze in the mid ’70s and we grew up doing family runs. I’ve been running now easy for 35 years.

Do you remember your first race?
My dad was a track coach and he’d get all the neighborhood kids together and take us to Anchorage for track meets when we were very young. Anchorage is 50 miles from Wasilla. And ever since we were little we’d do 10-K races as family fun runs.

Click here for more photos of Governor Palin, the runner: http://www.runnersworld.com/photo/sarahpalin

So you grew up running with your siblings?
Yes, and my siblings and parents were better runners than I. My mom and dad were marathoners and one of my sisters is a marathoner. Dad ran Boston a couple times, mom would win her age group or at least get a ribbon in the big races, and I would just try to keep up.

Sounds like your skills were more suited to basketball?
Well, I appreciated the fact that in running I needed guts more than anything. I could do fine just being really determined. I was thankful that I didn’t need a whole lot of skills to run.

And running was your first athletic activity, even before basketball?
Yes. My parents instilled in us that fitness and running were going to be a part of our lives growing up. My siblings and I are all still very active. A lot of days I look forward to getting out to run and think and plan.

Was there ever a period when you didn’t run?
Only when I was too pregnant to run. During each of my five pregnancies I worked out until right before the babies were born. A few summers ago I trained hard and ran a sub-4 hour marathon [2005 Humpy's Marathon in Anchorage]. That was a pretty intense summer of running. There have been other periods where I haven’t had the time to get out there and run as hard, so it’s waned on and off over the years.

If you go a day or a week without running, what do you learn about yourself?
I feel so crappy if I go more than a few days without running. I have to run. No matter how rotten I feel before or during a run, it’s always worth it to me afterwards. Sweat is my sanity. A great frustration I had during the campaign was when the McCain staff wouldn’t carve out time for me to go for a run. The days never went as well if I couldn’t get out there and sweat.

Did you raise that issue, and put the ultimatum down that you needed to run?
Absolutely, and they would say, “Yes, in a couple of days we’re going to start carving out that half-hour or hour to run,” and too often it never happened, and that was frustrating. But then it also made it sweeter when I did get out. I would run with the Secret Service and Todd [Palin's husband], if he was on the trail, and it was just such an amazing thing to be running in so many states and communities with such different things to see and experience. But it should have happened more often.

Tell me about a memorable run during the campaign that really stands out.
Oh, my gosh, the one that really stands out I’m embarrassed to death to repeat. I went for a run at John McCain’s ranch a couple of days before the debate with Joe Biden. My favorite thing in the world is to run on hot, dusty roads. I don’t get enough of that in Alaska. So I was in heaven and there were plenty of hills so I knew my thighs were going to just throb and my lungs were going to burn and that’s what I crave.

I like running alone and having the Secret Service with me added a little bit of pressure. I’m thinking I gotta have good form and can’t be hyperventilating and can’t be showing too much pain and that adds a little more pressure on you as you’re trying to be out there enjoying your run. Then I fell coming down a hill and was so stinkin’ embarrassed that a golf cart full of Secret Service guys had to pull up beside me. My hands just got torn up and I was dripping blood. In the debate you could see a big fat ugly Band-Aid on my right hand. I have a nice war wound now as a reminder of that fall in the palm of my right hand. For much of the campaign, shaking hands was a little bit painful.

I wish Sarah was a Golfer… I bet she would be good at it.

I have watched Obama’s golf swing… and winced.

I don’t wish a bad golf swing on anyone… not even him. Let’s just say Obama’s golf swing is a “work in progress.”

  108. rosehips says:

vf, great article. I’m glad you posted that part. It really gives me insight into the gov. I identify with her in that I believe a person can accomplish just about anything with determination. As an athlete, I know that there are many natural athletes and there are self-made athletes an if you combine the two, wow!

I feel for her being in a fishbowl all the time. How invasive that she can’t run without an escort. I can imagine what she felt like when she fell and got her hands all shredded.

I think she shows her masochistic side with the running (maybe I identify with that too). Especially revealing is that she enjoys hot, dusty roads. hmmm…that weird.

  109. VotingFemale says:

Did everyone see the news about that No Korea ship being trailed by the USS McCain? It turned around and is heading back in the direction from which it came.

Kim Jong-ill shot off 4 short range missiles today… yawn.

They have used up their “pay attention to me the sky is falling” points.

If they launch against the US or our allies their military sites will be turned into craters in the blink of an eye else… there will not be a hole deep enough for Obama to hide in if he does not retaliate and do it in a decisive and timely way.

  115. samiam60 says:

Yes Rose and even I my old age I am still proud of it.

  116. VotingFemale says:

Though I am not a natural athlete and never was… I did a lot of long distance running in high school and really enjoyed it. When your body is in the zone you can run for miles and feel great while doing it.

As for liking hot dusty roads… likely that is a response of an Alaskan… as would be a life long Floridian who enjoys hiking in the snow.

    rosehips says

I think she shows her masochistic side with the running (maybe I identify with that too). Especially revealing is that she enjoys hot, dusty roads. hmmm…that weird.

  117. rosehips says:

yeah vf, kimmie is another textbook case of a man who probably grew up with inadequacy issues. Maybe he is not endowed well, or his mother pampered him too much. Or maybe he was deprived titty at an early age. scary guy, but I think he’s all talk. I hope so.

  118. samiam60 says:

Ok Rose lets leave endowments out of this.

  119. rosehips says:

well, she is probably just being reminicent of her days in the inland ne and the palouse. I’m sure she spent a lot of days running on hot, dusty roads in Moscow and Sandpoint ID and whereever else she lived in these parts.

It is customary to name a navy ship after each president… and no doubt there will be a USS Obama and hopefully a USS Palin.

Perhaps the future USS Barack H. Obama will be an anti-pirate vessel. lol

  121. rosehips says:

  122. VotingFemale says:

Perhaps his girly son has a high heel collection?
Which one is it? His second oldest son?

  128. VotingFemale says:

The USS Sarah Palin will no doubt be an Air Craft Carrier.

  130. rosehips says:

I always like to hear when our high profile leaders have gay family members. I like to think they are more sensitive to the issues facing gays. But sometimes they are not.
Having a gay daughter was one of the few things that I think humanized Dick Cheney.

  131. tellitlikeitis says:

July 2 (Bloomberg) — Employers in the U.S. cut 467,000 jobs in June, the unemployment rate rose and hourly earnings stagnated, offering little evidence the Obama administration’s stimulus package is shoring up the labor market.

The payroll decline was more than forecast and followed a 322,000 drop in May, according to Labor Department figures released today in Washington. The jobless rate jumped to 9.5 percent, the highest since August 1983, from 9.4 percent.

Unemployment is projected to keep rising for the rest of the year just as the income boost from the stimulus package fades, undermining prospects for a sustained rebound in household purchases, analysts said. As companies from General Motors Corp. to Kimberly-Clark Corp. cut costs, the lack of jobs will restrain growth.

Biden fails to draw crowd in Erie
    Posted July 1, 2009 11 :29 AM

Wattsburg, Pa. — Vice President Joe Biden visited a small town on the outskirts of Erie today to talk to rural folks about federal stimulus money that can be used to expand broadband access to the Internet for rural areas that typically have poor connections.

Apparently stimulus money and broadband are not all that interesting to the local folk here: Only around 100 or so people have showed up so far to hear Biden talk at noon at Seneca High School off Route 8 in Wattsburg.

The room looked so sparse that about 30 or so chairs were removed by volunteers to give the illusion of a full house.

    The effect didn’t exactly work.

Pittsburgh native and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper are also on hand to talk about access to high speed internet as an essential tool for success in business and in school in our struggling economy.

California is sunk. I don’t know what they will do. It’s the propositions they passed that are doing them in. They need to change that.

  181. SamHenry says:

Speaking of blogs, I heard a reporter on a station saying he got his citation directly from a news organization and not from a blog.

VF I think we need to do an education job with the media about the accuracy of blogs like VF.

  182. SamHenry says:

Is Huff post generally a blog? If not, then a blog needs to be in the WH press corps.

  183. VotingFemale says:

well… in hindsight, I consider my stint at ireport a stepping stone… I had no idea that my blog posts there would get so much attention…
people absolutely loved to hate me… and I was just fine with DAT! ;)

  184. SamHenry says:

Oh, Cat; fine with DAT :)

  185. rosehips says:

I think Huff post is a blog, or a hybrid. They have a lot of high profile bloggers. Not anyone can post but I think most anyone can comment. I think I commented a couple of times, but I try to limit my activities. I am here enough and ireports not much anymore, but I am still clinging to the hope that it will resurrect and become significant again.

  186. VotingFemale says:

SamH, Bloggers are gaining attention of folks… that is true.

That some bloggers are now getting press credentials in certain circumstances to cover certain events is something I never expected to see.

  187. rosehips says:

awk, I better go get busy. I have to start an assignment and vacuum my house and blah blah blah…

will michael jackson ever be relegated to page 2?

  188. SamHenry says:

I think I will make an iReport on blog accuracy and blog profiles and power. Perhaps a three parter. Not today! too much to do to settle into the revamped house. Oh, through being nice I got my med coverage back! The guy even said a large part of why I got it back because he was not being beat over the head and could think clearly which direction in which to move.

  189. SamHenry says:

Great Cat – I hope you can get press credentials past commenting on FOX. You need to do that unless it would burn the heck out of you. You could send Karm or M2 of Belle or Lisa – Sami probably wouldn’t want to go or Fox.

  190. VotingFemale says:

    HuffyPOO… a socialist storm in cyberspace…

  191. SamHenry says:

So here you are VF and you know very well you have the moxy to get right up there.

  192. rosehips says:

sh, good for you! sometimes being nice works. I once got telephone service that I was supposed to pay $1000 to hook up but by being nice and explaining how much I needed phone service and explaining my circumstances I got the woman excited and empathetic and next thing I know I have a phone up in my mountain home.

  193. SamHenry says:

Excellent Rose. Goodness netted us you!

  194. VotingFemale says:

    SamH, perhaps I should do a start-up…

    VFN- VotingFemaleNews hahahahahahaha

  195. rosehips says:

ok, to work for reals now. bbl.

  196. SamHenry says:

Don’t joke about the possible, VF – especiall when it is an appropriate title moving toward 2012 – you owe it to the blogsphere.

  197. SamHenry says:

Your editorials are legendary. Get on it, CAT.

  198. VotingFemale says:

SamH, I just take life one day at a time. Never thought seriously about blogging till the day I got pissed off at what was done to Hillary and finally stopped crying over how evilly she was treated by her own party… on that day I was filled with an indomitable resolve… and it has only strengthened.

  199. SamHenry says:

It is like talking to the wind and I do not refer to the canine wind around here. The canines are outside and windows are open.

I need to get some lunch but hope you will be available to us later, Big Cat. Think upon what the ole dawg says. The kind of journalit insight and writiing you do is fast disappearing. It should not. And you inspire your faithful followers – make us do our best. Meowoof

Dog Overboard ……heavy splash; heavy hearted. Laborius swim to shore.

Dog jumping up on shore having got response from Cat and yelling

It is that je ne said quoi – that maybe I will maybe I won’t – that creative maybe – that is what makes the art – not a dull plower of the same dull furrow. Don’t make a promise. Just do a few things daily. You will have lots of help.

  201. VotingFemale says:

a little kitty cat with a little laptop… that’s me

  202. SamHenry says:

    Yea right. Little my ass….

  203. SamHenry says:

And that is my raw journalistic opinion. Nothing so difficult as a dog scorned.

  204. VotingFemale says:

    PUMA POWER! lol

  205. SamHenry says:

PUMA POWER PlUS is what I get at the gas station – in my house :)

  206. VotingFemale says:

scorned not, mon ami! I pay attention to you dear…

  207. SamHenry says:

A la prochaine fois, Chat qui rit.

  208. SamHenry says:

  209. VotingFemale says:

So you saw it coming during the elections., good for you!! ….. I did too. I knew nothing about politics and l don’t live in the USA but I could see it as clearly as if he had “MARX” tattooed in red on his forehead. I don’t understand how more than 1/2 of USA did not see this coming.
I am still waiting to see who the puppet master is.
