Sharpton, Civil Rights Groups Rally in D.C.
WASHINGTON — Two groups with competing Washington rallies briefly encountered each other during their activities, but while some participants shouted at each other there was no physical conflict.
The Rev. Al Sharpton was leading a march Saturday to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the March on Washington. During the march his group briefly encountered participants from a rally on the National Mall being headlined by Sarah Palin and conservative commentator Glenn Beck.
Marchers encountered the other crowds near the Washington Monument
. Men in tri-cornered hats and people wearing tea party T-shirts looked on as marchers chanted “reclaim the dream” and “MLK, MLK.” Some marchers chanted “don’t drink the tea” to people leaving Beck’s rally.
“One woman shouted to the marchers: “Go to church. Restore America with peace.”

Sharpton is real pissed off. I’m gloating. Every yr. These NAACP & so call black civil rights marches are getting old & tired. Beck’s rally was a breath of fresh air, as it turned the page. Whereas Sharpton’s had a feel of still being stuck in the mud.

Author and TV host Glenn Beck denied he has any aspirations of running for office during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” the day after his Restore Honor rally attracted scores to Washington.
When asked if the rally would prompt him to consider seeking election, perhaps as the running mate of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Beck said there was no chance that he will run.

Now it’s happening again — except that this time it’s even worse. Let’s turn the floor over to Rush Limbaugh: “Imam Hussein Obama,” he recently declared, is “probably the best anti-American president we’ve ever had.”
To get a sense of how much it matters when people like Mr. Limbaugh talk like this, bear in mind that he’s an utterly mainstream figure within the Republican Party; bear in mind, too, that unless something changes the political dynamics, Republicans will soon control at least one house of Congress. This is going to be very, very ugly.
So where is this rage coming from? Why is it flourishing? What will it do to America?
Anyone who remembered the 1990s could have predicted something like the current political craziness. What we learned from the Clinton years is that a significant number of Americans just don’t consider government by liberals — even very moderate liberals — legitimate. Mr. Obama’s election would have enraged those people even if he were white. Of course, the fact that he isn’t, and has an alien-sounding name, adds to the rage.
By the way, I’m not talking about the rage of the excluded and the dispossessed: Tea Partiers are relatively affluent, and nobody is angrier these days than the very, very rich.

Justice Dept. files suit against junior colleges

The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Maricopa County Community College District alleging it engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination in hiring authorized non-citizens.
The Justice Department says its investigation revealed that Maricopa Community Colleges required all newly hired non-citizens to present additional work authorization documents beyond those required by law, but did not require U.S. citizens to do so.
The Immigration and Nationality Act requires employers to treat authorized workers in the same manner during the hiring process, regardless of their citizenship status.
District spokesman Tom Gariepy says the district has no comment because the matter is in litigation.
