Flowers for Our Great Lady Sent by the Tea Party Movement
For several years, I sang my original, “Celebrate America” at monthly U.S. Immigration Citizenship Ceremonies in Maryland. I took great pride in the knowledge that mine was the first song the approximate 1000 applicants heard as new American citizens after taking their long dreamed of, oath of allegiance. Each ceremony was an emotional event of great celebration.
It was not unusual to see very old applicants in wheel chairs, proudly and tearfully taking the oath; their raised right hand supported by a grandchild, son or daughter. Obviously, becoming an American was a great honor to them. Unfortunately, such love and passion for our country seems the stuff of days gone by. To many, it is considered hoky, redneck, un-global minded (gag me) and even offensive to love your country. It simply isn’t sophisticated to be waving the flag all over the place. We patriots are those simple minded folks who “cling to God and guns” as Obama described us during his presidential campaign.
Liberalism has contributed greatly to the decline of patriotism. The hostile takeover of our schools by Liberalism has indoctrinated many of our kids to hate their country. They are encouraged to sing the praises of Barack Hussein Obama, but not God and country.
Years ago, a dear white friend told me her son, who was in middle school, came home in tears feeling guilty for the horrible things his white ancestors and our founding fathers did to “Native Americans”. This poor kid was taught a laundry list of evils perpetuated by his race and America. Today, my friend’s son is a 22 year old Marxist who passionately hates Capitalism and America. Thank you, public school system.
The Tea Party Movement has sparked a resurgence of patriotism. The movement, itself was birthed out of fear of the far left agenda and radical changes being implemented by the Obama administration. Despite attempts by the liberal media and the Obama gang to convince us otherwise, we see and feel the threat of destruction of the traditions, values and institutions which we hold dear and have made America great.
The realization of Obama’s threat to our country is a blessing. Many of us have taken America, our Great Lady, for granted far too long; never telling her how pretty she is, how much we love her or how much we appreciate everything she does for us. And when is the last time you gave America flowers? America, we love you and don’t want to lose you.
In response to my article proclaiming that I am an American rather than a hyphenated African American, I received the following letter. Talk about having “the right stuff”, the author and his dad are great Americans. This letter reflects the kind of patriotism I long to see again on a massive scale.
“Letter from an Unhyphenated American. Sir, I very much enjoy your articles in American Thinker and I can relate to the unhyphenated American moniker. My father is a Holocaust survivor, Catholic from Poland. He escaped to this country, joined the US Navy and earned his citizenship. As a first-generation American, I can tell you that I cannot speak Polish…my father insisted that we learn only English because America saved him from the Nazis and the Soviets. He married a Californian of Irish and Mexican decent and served in the Navy and the Navy reserves for over 30 years. I am now into my 16th year in the United States Air Force.
I appreciate your story of overcoming adversity and your unabashed love of this country. I just wanted to drop a line of encouragement for you activities in the Tea Party movement and urge you to continue to be a voice of common sense and reason in these uncertain times.”

Folks, you can feel the gratitude, love and respect these men have for their country. The father in this letter “gets it”. He knows what it means to live under tyranny and appreciates the great and rare wonderful gift we enjoy as Americans called freedom. He epitomizes the type of immigrant Lady Liberty and the American people embraces with open arms. He feels as the lyric in Lee Greenwood’s classic song, “…proud to be an American”.
Sunday (10-25-09) I begin traveling across America on the Tea Party Express II tour. While these rallies are where we encourage patriots to stay strong and work to restore our freedom, liberty and culture, they are love letters and flowers to America. The rallies are also a continuation of my Million Hand Shake March.

As a back up for my comment this health care reform should have been a slam dunk for them and they are still bickering and debating it.

At the end of that show – if you hung in there – both women were laughing and saying they would do it again. You can debate and debate heavily and not “hate” the adversary. The White House seems fond of making enemies lists these days, so it seems worthwhile to look at the just-released House health package to determine who non-partisan journalists think might be joining the enemies list in the near future:
1. States — The House bill will be increasing the threshold for Medicaid eligibility from 133 percent of poverty to 150 percent. According to the Wall Street Journal, “The Medicaid expansion is likely to prompt protests from the states, who share the program’s costs with the federal government.”
2. Employers — The Journal notes that the legislation will impose a payroll tax on employers with over 500,000 in payroll who do not offer health insurance. Per the Journal, “The penalty gradually rises, and firms with payroll greater than $750,000 would pay a penalty of 8% of payroll. Senate versions of the bill have weaker penalties.”
3. Liberals — The Journal also observes that “The loss of the ‘robust’ public option tied to Medicare rates was a defeat for liberals, who had lobbied hard for the measure.”
4. Budget hawks — Per Politico: “The legislation is projected to create deficits over the second five years, a fact that should give budget hawks plenty to worry about.”
5. Conservatives, specifically pro-lifers and those worried about illegal immigration — As the Washington Post notes, “sticking points involving abortion and immigration remain unresolved.”
6. Wealthy people . . . — A CNN story explains that “the measure is financed largely through a combination of a tax surcharge on wealthy Americans . . . ”
7. . . . as well as Medicare and Medicaid recipients — “ . . . and spending constraints in Medicare and Medicaid.”
Politico also looks at three industry groups likely to be unhappy, specifically:

9. Medical Device Manufacturers — “It imposes a 2.5 percent tax on medical device manufacturers, a quietly influential force on Capitol Hill,”
10. Insurers — “Health insurers, who have already agreed to end many of the practices banned by the bill, would have to compete with a government-run insurance vehicle that would put pressure on them to lower premiums.”
All told, the Pelosi approach is an impressive demonstration of coalition building . . . if you’re trying to build a coalition of opponents.

Demand the NFL apologize to Rush Limbaugh
Roger Goodell, who said Rush Limbaugh’s “divisive comments” had no place in the NFL, didn’t have any similar concerns when pop stars J. Lopez and Fergie became part owners of the Miami Dolphins, even though many of their songs promote sexual abuse toward women, pornography and drug use. The hypocrisy here is astounding!
Lisa, this kind of double-standard affects all conservatives, and cannot be tolerated. The NFL’s spineless attacks on Rush are indefensible. Even when the truth was revealed, Goodell refused to apologize, passing up an opportunity to be a man and set the record straight.

WASHINGTON — The health care overhaul bill produced by House Democrats would impose an array of new taxes, fees and government mandates on major players in the health industry, including insurers, doctors and drugs and medical devices makers.
In most cases, the pain has been meted out with an eye toward raising the money needed to finance President Barack Obama’s plan for reshaping the health system but also with careful regard for gaining the votes that will be needed to pass a final bill.
Democrats hope to vote next week on the measure, which would extend health coverage to tens of millions of Americans who don’t have it, impose sweeping new restrictions on private insurers and create a government-run insurance plan to compete with them.
Among the industries targeted in the bill are medical device makers — one of the few that failed to cut an early behind-the-scenes deal with Obama and Democrats to help pay for an overhaul. The House added $20 billion in taxes on sales of medical devices like artificial hips and heart stents to the legislation Democratic leaders unveiled Thursday.
That’s more than the industry wants to pay, but it’s a substantial reprieve from an earlier plan in the Senate to slap a $40 billion fee on medical device makers. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has agreed to slash the fee, in part to win cooperation from fence-sitting Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.
Bayh, whose state is home to prominent medical device makers, including Zimmer Holdings Inc., Biomet and DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., is one of a handful of wavering Democrats whose support will be vital to getting to the 60 Senate votes necessary to advance the health overhaul. That means he and other holdouts have disproportionate power to cut deals on behalf of favored industries that are bracing for major costs under the new system.
Stephen J. Ubl, the president of AdvaMed, the trade group representing large medical device makers, said the group appreciates House leaders’ decision to include the smaller version of the tax and is “grateful for the efforts” of Bayh and others to do the same in the Senate. In a statement, Ubl seemed to indicate that his group was willing to go along if Congress helped cushion the blow.
“We look forward to working with Congress and the administration on critically important implementation issues,” Ubl said, including seeking AdvaMed priorities such as delaying the tax until 2013 — which the House measure does — tying it to specific products, exempting small companies with less than $100 million in annual revenue and making it deductible.
The measure is less kind to drug makers, an industry that did strike a deal with Obama and key senators to hold down its costs. Pharmaceutical companies agreed to cough up $80 billion in the health overhaul. While precise figures were not immediately available, it appeared the House legislation would target the industry for much more. And it would give the government power to negotiate drug prices on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries.
Ken Johnson of the trade group the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America said lawmakers were being “unrealistic in their expectations of what our industry can contribute to health care reform without triggering catastrophic job losses and driving innovation and business overseas.”
The $80 billion figure “is a huge amount of money — it’s not loose change we found sitting around in the sofa,” said Johnson, who added that the drug makers would be busy in the coming days contacting House and Senate leaders “trying to educate them” on how damaging further cuts would be.
On the other hand, the industry managed to come away with a provision worth billions: 12 years of market protection for high-tech drugs to combat cancer, Parkinson’s and other deadly diseases.
Health insurers, who would gain tens of millions of new customers under the health plan, nonetheless would be ensnared by some potentially costly new measures, including eliminating their long-standing antitrust exemption.
They voiced particular concern about Democrats’ inclusion of the government-run insurance plan. Karen Ignani, the chief of the insurers’ main trade group, America’s Health Insurance Plans, said the so-called public option would “bankrupt hospitals, dismantle employer coverage, exacerbate cost-shifting from Medicare and Medicaid, and ultimately increase the federal deficit.” She said the result would be that many people, including seniors, would lose coverage or face higher costs.
The measure also drops a reprieve for doctors from scheduled pay cuts for treating Medicare patients, which House leaders now plan to pursue separately from the broader health bill. The Senate last week turned back an attempt to pass the pay-raise on its own at a cost of $247 billion over the next decade — sidetracking what the American Medical Association has made a key priority in the health overhaul negotiations.
But doctors, hospitals and other providers won a key concession that would let them negotiate rates with the Health and Human Services Department for services provided in the government insurance plan. Key Democratic moderates whose votes were needed to pass the plan insisted on that approach, at the urging of hospitals in their districts. Liberals wanted rates to be dictated by the government, which would have been less costly.
Chip Kahn, the president of the Federation of American Hospitals, cheered the bill, saying it moves toward “a market-based health system.”

House health bill clocks in at 1,990 pages

It runs more pages than War and Peace, has nearly five times as many words as the Torah, and its tables of contents alone run far longer than this story.
The House health care bill unveiled Thursday clocks in at 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words. With an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, that comes out to about $2.24 million per word. .
And for some members, that may not be enough.
A “robust” public option can’t be found in the bill. Neither can the word “doctor” – save for a few references to degrees. No “cost curve” is bent. No “blue pill” is dispensed.
“Death” and “taxes” are both in there, but “death panel” is not.
The text defines dozens of words and phrases, including “family” (“an individual and . . . the individual’s dependents”), “health insurance coverage,” “exchange-eligible individual” and “Indian.”
And for those who cry “read the bill,” beware. There are plenty of paragraphs like this one:
“(a) Outpatient Hospitals – (1) In General – Section 1833(t)(3)(C)(iv) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395(t)(3)(C)(iv)) is amended – (A) in the first sentence – (i) by inserting “(which is subject to the productivity adjustment described in subclause (II) of such section)” after “1886(b)(3)(B)(iii); and (ii) by inserting “(but not below 0)” after “reduced”; and (B) in the second sentence, by inserting “and which is subject, beginning with 2010 to the productivity adjustment described in section 1886(b)(3)(B)(iii)(II)”.
The section deals with “incorporating productivity improvements into market basket updates that do not already incorporate such improvements,” if that helps.
Optimistic lawmakers say it could take a week just to get through the bill’s text.
“I’ll have to call an emergency meeting of my staff and drop the customary procedure of me reading and my staff not reading,” joked House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.), who famously told filmmaker Michael Moore that lawmakers “don’t read most of the bills.”
“It’s one thing to read it,” said Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.), a lawyer who voted against the first version of the bill on its way through the Energy and Commerce Committee. “It’s another thing to understand it when it’s written in legalese.”
When given the bill’s dimensions, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) noted that some members are faster readers than others.
“That’s one afternoon for Barney Frank,” he said.
Republicans aide said a print-out of the bill weighs more than 19 pounds and stands nearly nine inches tall.
North Carolina Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry, 34 years old and a few inches taller than 5 feet, said the bill could act as a ”booster seat.”
Democrats say the essence of the bill isn’t much different from the three sister bills they moved through committees this summer, which came in around 1,000 pages.
If you read those, they say, you pretty much know what’s in this one.
“It’s almost a complete certainty that we have already discussed and debated almost every element that’s in this bill,” said Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.)
McHenry took issue with the notion that the 2,000-page bill hasn’t changed much from the earlier, 1,000-page versions. To prove the point, he pulled out a Democratic-written summary of the changes.
All eight pages of them.
Asked why the House will vote on the roughly 400,000-word bill in a week when it takes a congregation a year to read the 80,000-word Torah at a synagogue, Rothman, who is Jewish, exhibited the wisdom of a Talmudic scholar.
“It only takes a year because you read one section a week,” he said.
But Republican Rep. Joe Barton, who is Texan, said the bill is “about four reams of paper” that add up to the American public “getting reamed.”

Obama Golf Handicap System Update
THE USGA WOULD LIKE TO INFORM ALL GOLFERS
There is a possibility of major rule changes to the game of golf, which are scheduled to occur during the first 100 days of the Obama Administration. This message is a preview of the complete rulebook, which is in the process of being rewritten now. An overview of the basic rule changes follow.
A. Golfers with handicaps:
- below 10 will have their green fees increased by 35%
- between 11 and 18 will see no increase in green fees
- above 18 will play for free and even get a check from
the club/course played
B. The amount of money put in for bets will be as follows:
- for handicaps below 10 an additional $10
- between 11 and 18 no additional amount
- above 18 you will receive the total amount in the pot and you do not even have to play.
C. The term “gimme” putt will be changed to “entitlement” and will be used as follows:
- handicaps below 10, no entitlements
- handicaps above 11 to 17, entitlements for putter length putts
- handicaps above 18, if on green, no need to ever putt, just pick it up, it’s good.
These entitlements are intended to bring about fairness in scoring so that the final scores of all players will be about the same.
In addition, a player will be limited to a max of one birdie and/or six pars, after which any excess strokes must be given to those fellow players who have not yet scored a birdie or par.
Only after all players have received a birdie or par from the player making the birdie or par, can that Player begin to count his score again.
The current USGA handicap system will be used for the above purposes but the term ‘net score’ will be available only for scoring those players with handicaps 18 and above. This is intended to ‘redistribute’ the success of winning by making sure that in every competition the above 18 handicap players will post only ‘net score’ against every other player’s gross score.
Remember that under the new administration, golf must be about fairness. The goal of the new rulebook should help players of all ability levels to enjoy a level playing field.

Judge dismisses suit about Obama’s eligibility to be president
(CNN) – President Barack Obama may have one less problem to worry about.
A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit that claimed Obama is ineligible to be president because he isn’t a bona fide U.S. citizen.
The lawsuit represented the claim by the so-called “birthers” movement that Obama was not born in Hawaii – despite a birth certificate to the contrary – or that if he was, his citizenship was invalidated by living overseas as a child.
In a 30-page ruling, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of California said his court lacked the jurisdiction to rule on a case intended to unseat a sitting president.
Carter’s ruling said the plaintiffs were trying to persuade him to “disregard the constitutional procedures in place for the removal of a sitting president.”
“The process for removal of a sitting president – removal for any reason – is within the province of Congress, not the courts,” the ruling said.
Carter’s ruling also noted that the plaintiffs “have attacked the judiciary, including every prior court that has dismissed their claim, as unpatriotic and even treasonous for refusing to grant their requests and for adhering to the terms of the Constitution.”
“Respecting the constitutional role and jurisdiction of this court is not unpatriotic,” the ruling said. “Quite the contrary, this court considers commitment to that constitutional role to be the ultimate reflection of patriotism.”

Health Care Businesses at Risk in House Overhaul
Published: Friday, 30 Oct 2009 | 5:17 AM ET By: AP
The health care overhaul bill produced by House Democrats would impose an array of new taxes, fees and government mandates on major players in the health industry, including insurers, doctors and drugs and medical devices makers.
In most cases, the pain has been meted out with an eye toward raising the money needed to finance President Barack Obama’s plan for reshaping the health system but also with careful regard for gaining the votes that will be needed to pass a final bill.
Democrats hope to vote next week on the measure, which would extend health coverage to tens of millions of Americans who don’t have it, impose sweeping new restrictions on private insurers and create a government-run insurance plan to compete with them.
Among the industries targeted in the bill are medical device makers — one of the few that failed to cut an early behind-the-scenes deal with Obama and Democrats to help pay for an overhaul.
The House added $20 billion in taxes on sales of medical devices like artificial hips and heart stents to the legislation Democratic leaders unveiled Thursday. That’s more than the industry wants to pay, but it’s a substantial reprieve from an earlier plan in the Senate to slap a $40 billion fee on medical device makers.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has agreed to slash the fee, in part to win cooperation from fence-sitting Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.
Bayh, whose state is home to prominent medical device makers, including Zimmer Holdings, Biomet and DePuy Orthopaedics, is one of a handful of wavering Democrats whose support will be vital to getting to the 60 Senate votes necessary to advance the health overhaul.
That means he and other holdouts have disproportionate power to cut deals on behalf of favored industries that are bracing for major costs under the new system.
Stephen J. Ubl, the president of AdvaMed, the trade group representing large medical device makers, said the group appreciates House leaders’ decision to include the smaller version of the tax and is “grateful for the efforts” of Bayh and others to do the same in the Senate.
In a statement, Ubl seemed to indicate that his group was willing to go along if Congress helped cushion the blow.
“We look forward to working with Congress and the administration on critically important implementation issues,” Ubl said, including seeking AdvaMed priorities such as delaying the tax until 2013 — which the House measure does — tying it to specific products, exempting small companies with less than $100 million in annual revenue and making it deductible.
The measure is less kind to drug makers, an industry that did strike a deal with Obama and key senators to hold down its costs.
Pharmaceutical companies agreed to cough up $80 billion in the health overhaul.
While precise figures were not immediately available, it appeared the House legislation would target the industry for much more. And it would give the government power to negotiate drug prices on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries.
Ken Johnson of the trade group the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America said lawmakers were being “unrealistic in their expectations of what our industry can contribute to health care reform without triggering catastrophic job losses and driving innovation and business overseas.”
The $80 billion figure “is a huge amount of money — it’s not loose change we found sitting around in the sofa,” said Johnson, who added that the drug makers would be busy in the coming days contacting House and Senate leaders “trying to educate them” on how damaging further cuts would be.
On the other hand, the industry managed to come away with a provision worth billions: 12 years of market protection for high-tech drugs to combat cancer, Parkinson’s and other deadly diseases.
Health insurers, who would gain tens of millions of new customers under the health plan, nonetheless would be ensnared by some potentially costly new measures, including eliminating their long-standing antitrust exemption.
They voiced particular concern about Democrats’ inclusion of the government-run insurance plan.
Karen Ignani, the chief of the insurers’ main trade group, America’s Health Insurance Plans, said the so-called public option would “bankrupt hospitals, dismantle employer coverage, exacerbate cost-shifting from Medicare and Medicaid, and ultimately increase the federal deficit.”
She said the result would be that many people, including seniors, would lose coverage or face higher costs.
The measure also drops a reprieve for doctors from scheduled pay cuts for treating Medicare patients, which House leaders now plan to pursue separately from the broader health bill.
The Senate last week turned back an attempt to pass the pay-raise on its own at a cost of $247 billion over the next decade — sidetracking what the American Medical Association has made a key priority in the health overhaul negotiations.
But doctors, hospitals and other providers won a key concession that would let them negotiate rates with the Health and Human Services Department for services provided in the government insurance plan.
Key Democratic moderates whose votes were needed to pass the plan insisted on that approach, at the urging of hospitals in their districts. Liberals wanted rates to be dictated by the government, which would have been less costly.
Chip Kahn, the president of the Federation of American Hospitals, cheered the bill, saying it moves toward “a market-based health system.”
I have many reasons to believe that Obama’s withholding of the records he keeps a secret is done for reasons of self-service.
That he is secretive is a smoking gun he can not, in itself, dodge.
I believe that sooner or later… the truth will come out… and the likelihood is it will be later rather than sooner.

House ethics investigators have been scrutinizing the activities of more than 30 lawmakers and several aides in inquiries about issues including defense lobbying and corporate influence peddling, according to a confidential House ethics committee report prepared in July.
The report appears to have been inadvertently placed on a publicly accessible computer network, and it was provided to The Washington Post by a source not connected to the congressional investigations. The committee said Thursday night that the document was released by a low-level staffer.

Jobs Created or Saved’ Is White House Fantasy: Caroline Baum

Last week, the chairman of President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers — a position that carried the title “chief economist” until Larry Summers took up residence in the White House — testified to the Joint Economic Committee on the economic crisis and the efficacy of the policy response.
Here’s the executive summary in case you missed it:
The crisis: “Inherited.”
The economy: “In terrible shape” (the inherited one).
The shocks to the system: “Larger than those that precipitated the Great Depression.”
The policy response: “Strong and timely.”
The efficacy of the policy response: a 2 to 3 percentage point addition to second-quarter growth; 3 to 4 percentage points in the third; and 160,000 to 1.5 million “jobs saved or created,” a made-up metric if there ever was one. (More on that later.)
What was most puzzling about Romer’s Oct. 22 testimony was her comment on the waning effect of fiscal stimulus.
“Most analysts predict that the fiscal stimulus will have its greatest impact on growth in the second and third quarters of 2009,” Romer said. “By mid-2010, fiscal stimulus will likely be contributing little to growth.”
At first it was just fringe elements, such as conservative blogs and the not-really-a-news-organization Fox News, that pounced on Romer’s statement. Then other news outlets started to question her statement, which seemed to fly in the face of White House assertions that only a small portion of the stimulus — $120 billion, or 15 percent — has actually been spent. Most of the criticism of the stimulus coming from the president’s own party has been, “too little, too late,” and here’s Romer saying it’s kaput.

Instead of being banished to the woodshed, Romer was consigned to the White House blog, where she slipped into professorial mode to explain the arcane distinction between the effect of the stimulus on the change in gross domestic product and its effect on the level of GDP.
Stimulus has its biggest impact on the growth rate of GDP when it’s implemented, Romer said, using a car-and-driver analogy: Step on the accelerator, the car goes from zero to 60.
Stimulus will keep the level of GDP and employment higher than they would have been even after the growth-rate effect fades, she said.
Her logic is impeccable. It’s her premise that’s flawed.
Dispensing Lucre
When the government distributes lucre or loot, people spend it. If your interest is national income accounting, spending other people’s money is great. Spending is a back-door way for government statisticians to measure what matters, which is the real output of goods and services.
But the government has no money of its own to spend; only what it borrows or confiscates from us via taxation. Oops.
“Government job creation is an oxymoron,” said Bill Dunkelberg, chief economist at the National Federation of Independent Business. It is only by depriving the private sector of funds that government can hire or subsidize hiring.
That’s why “jobs created or saved” is such pure fiction. It ignores what’s unseen, as our old friend Frederic Bastiat explained so eloquently 160 years ago in an essay.
Econometric models synthesize all sorts of variables and spit out a GDP forecast. From there they derive the change in employment using something called Okun’s Law, named after the late economist Arthur Okun, which describes the relationship between the two.
Fiction Lags Reality
Actual hiring seems to be lagging behind the model’s land of make-believe. For small businesses, which are the source of most job creation in the U.S., the government’s increased and changing role in the economy isn’t a confidence builder. Businessmen have no idea what health-care reform will mean for their cost structure or what whimsical tax policies the government might impose when it realizes those short-term deficits are running into long-term unfunded liabilities.
No wonder capital spending plans were at an all-time low in the third quarter, according to the NFIB monthly survey.
Only 30,383 jobs were created or saved by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to Recovery.gov, the government’s once-transparent Web site that has become a complex blur of numbers, graphs and pie charts. These are only the jobs reported by federal contract recipients. The Obama administration will report the larger universe of ARRA-related jobs on Oct. 30.
An extrapolation of what would have happened without the fiscal stimulus isn’t much consolation to the 9.8 percent of the workforce that is unemployed. Nor is Romer’s prescription for the economy and labor market very comforting in light of the trillions of future tax dollars that have been spent, lent or promised by the federal government.

when you “log in on my blog”… you are actually logging into wordpress itself, into your own private wordpress account… there actually is no way to log into my blog…. it just looks like it.
there are things about wordpress that are not all that intuitive and this login stuff and the Gravatar as opposed to a site specific avatar is two examples of this.
There is a website, blog, specific icon called the Blavatar…
that is a special icon strictly for your blog itself which you can upload for your blog. I use the same pic for my Gravatar as I do for my Blavatar… but really they are two separate things… one for chatting as a person and the other specifically for the wordpress blog itself. Since you can have multiple blogs each one can have a different Blavatar and your Gravatar will remain your personal commenting icon regardless of where you comment.
if you look at the browser tab for this blog on your browser and also to the left of the http address for this blog site up in your browser’s site address box you will see my Blavatar… it just so happens it is the same pic as I used for my Gravatar because I wanted it that way.

Barack Obama signed the $680 billion defense authorization bill Wednesday. The bill contains the unrelated provision extending so-called “hate crimes” protections to homosexuals and others with gender-disorientation pathology. Meanwhile, the defense bill contains provisions far more deleterious to national defense, such as terminating production of the F-22. Of gutting the nation’s air superiority, Obama crowed that he was being fiscally responsible: “When Secretary Gates and I first proposed going after some of these wasteful projects, there were a lot of people who didn’t think it was possible, who were certain we were going to lose, who were certain that we were going to get steamrolled. Today, we have proven them wrong.” He then added, “There’s still more fights that we need to win.” (Like the fight against bad grammar, maybe?)
Obviously, to Democrats, “defense” means pushing aberrant sexual behavior while leaving the nation defenseless.

CBO UNDERESTIMATES BENEFITS OF MALPRACTICE REFORM
Earlier this month, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said medical-liability reforms could save about $11 billion annually. This assessment is a gross underestimate of the potential benefits of reform and was intended to give cover to congressional Democrats who say malpractice-liability costs are trifling. But a full accounting shows the benefits would be a hefty $242 billion a year, more than 10 percent of America’s health expenditures. Last year alone, damage awards for medical-malpractice claims reached $5.9 billion. Adding in legal costs, underwriting costs, and administrative expenses, total med-mal tort costs were nearly three times higher — $16 billion. From 1986 through 2002, the average insurance payment for a malpractice claim more than tripled to $320,000. The average jury award for medical liability was $637,134 in 2006.
