Obama Uses Presidency to Attack Retirees Invested in Chrysler to Benefit His Own Socialist Party

The stupidity and Arrogance
of Obama seems to know no limits.

Go for it OBAMA!

MAKE MY DAY, DUMBASS!!!

UPDATE:
Lauria allegations of threats corroborated

Business Insider reports that more than one Chrysler senior creditor has corroborated Thomas Lauria’s allegation that the Obama administration threatened them with public attacks if they didn’t surrender their contractual rights. One of their sources says that the Obama team comprises some of the worst “ends justify the means” people he’s ever encountered (via HA reader Geoff A):

Creditors to Chrysler describe negotiations with the company and the Obama administration as “a farce,” saying the administration was bent on forcing their hands using hardball tactics and threats.

Conversations with administration officials left them expecting that they would be politically targeted, two participants in the negotiations said. …

The sources, who represent creditors to Chrysler, say were taken aback by the hardball tactics that the Obama administration employed to cajole them into acquiescing to plans to restructure Chrysler. One person said described the administration as the most shocking “end justifies the means” group they have ever encountered. Another characterized Obama was “the most dangerous smooth talker on the planet- and I knew Kissinger.” Both were voters for Obama in the last election.

One participant in negotiations said that the administration’s tactic was to present what one described as a “madman theory of the presidency” in which the President is someone to be feared because he was willing to do anything to get his way. The person said this threat was taken very seriously by his firm.

Well, that’s certainly reassuring. The man at the helm during one of the biggest economic crises in decades is a madman who will act in an unpredictable and irrational manner if he doesn’t get his way. It sounds like they paint Obama as either a lunatic or a petulant child.

As Glenn Reynolds says, the country is in the very best of hands.

The story now has more than one source, and mounting testimony — albeit understandably anonymous testimony, at least at this point — that the White House tried threatening senior creditors instead of doing their job in enforcing the law. Not only do they not realize that their responsibilities do not include building business plans for private enterprises, but also don’t include assuming the role of Michael Corleone and acting like organized-crime thugs. Actually, the way the White House made Obama sound, maybe Sonny Corleone is a better analogy … or perhaps Fredo.

Thanks for posting this…this is the interview I mentioned earlier that set me off on another RANT last night—LOL
It’s SO funny how the Dem Party has made ONLY the Repub party the ‘FATCAT” aka parallel to “Jews” during Hitler occupation, when most likely, if the accounting were done HONESTLY, they are equal in wealth and are most likely WORST than the Repub’s work ethics etc……geez, we just can not make this $hit up! Obama and his roving apology tour just keep biting themselves on the butt cheeks…LOL

    VF posted
    ‘Broken Tax System’

The U.S. has “a broken tax system” that is “full of corporate loopholes that makes it perfectly legal for companies to avoid paying their fair share,” Obama said as he outlined his plan with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner at the White House. Obama called most of the breaks “unjustifiable” and likened some company practices to a “tax scam.”

    Repost:

“And how many get out of paying taxes by finding loopholes? Should this be ok when you and I have to pay taxes?”

The “loopholes” they are getting rid of were there for a reason. Therefor not a cheat. They were place in the code for a reason. Obama calls them loopholes to make the public believe they are workarounds or cheats.

Example, the portion of the tax code was put in that lets companies pay less taxes when they reside in another country was because they already pay those taxes in the residing country. They still have to pay US taxes minus the taxes they paid in the other country.

Obama thinks he will bring those jobs back home when they have to double pay taxes…. We’ll see. I would rather have more jobs in our country. I’m not so sure this will work tho.

Obama is like Imperial Japan who thought they could knock out the US with a massive attack on Pearl Harbor.

The Massive Obama Socialist Offensive has…
“Awoken a Sleeping Giant and filled him with a terrible resolve.”

The realities of American strengths are often under anticipated and under estimated and thus escapes the understanding of most non-Americans …like Obama, for instance.

All he is really doing is giving America a series of electrical shocks… and far from incapacitation of us… it is stimulating us to come alive and push the Socialists back into their caves from which they slithered.

This country did not become the Best and Strongest Country in the History of Humanity by accident. And not by the likes of self-appointed victims like Obama and his hapless band of Socialist Radicals.

“I presume several hundred thousand jobs were lost last month and the Department of Labor will announce that on Friday,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Private economists surveyed by Reuters have predicted that the data would show 620,000 jobs were lost in April following a 663,000 decline in March.

The report is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT Friday.

    yep, sure is.

yep…everyone except the holdouts in this one hedge fund.

regardless of the threat accusations against the white house…paying one hedge fund first because they have “the legal, contractual, & constitutional right” and won’t cooperate like the others is BULLSHIT! it will only guarantee the future litigation of thousands of legal contracts that can no longer be honored because of the economy collapse. great, let’s turn it into a lawsuit festival.

lots of people have had contracts that are not feasible any more given the crisis….everyone has lost, and these investors are just being selfish pricks. their counter offer of 50% is a joke. do you realize how many people have lost their entire life savings?!? these jerks should get nothing and have to lose their entire investment.

this represents more of what’s wrong with conservatives’ current behavior…..you can’t favor a few over many just because they are rich. the majority of registered voters won’t go along with that either….it’s still a losing side to be on.

let’s think of ways to win elections instead of ways to make fun of the socialists…how about that?

    Wink! Wink!
    You Betcha!

Seems DHS is going to hell in a hand basket and rumors are spreading Obama is considering her for the Supreme Court… HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the Obama Crap hitting the wall daily… and the Socislist Media keeps doing Damage Control.. to no avail… It is a three ring circus boy and girls!

As to legal contracts—without them, our laws mean absolutely NOTHING!!!
They could and should be renegotiated, but NOT TOTALLY discounted by our latest Socialist Empire Ruler in the land of Obamanation.

  84. rosehips says:

well, I just listened to Tom Laura and I have to say although he sounds convincing he didn’t make sense to me.

Ok, pretend I’m an 8th grader. Explain to me the legal grounds that a contract must be honored after bankruptcy? I am uninformed. okay? But I thought that if a company, person, or other entity goes bankrupt, the contracts they have are nullified. Is this incorrect? I didn’t think they are obligated to pay their debt back and it goes to bankruptcy court and creditors get what they get. But the hedge fund investors had a chance to get 29 cents on the dollar, and even though they bought stock for 30 cents on the dollar, they wanted 50 cents on the dollar because their contract said they should get paid 100 cents on the dollar. Am I understanding correctly?

But if Chrysler goes into bankruptcy, the contract is no longer valid and then they take their chances. Am I missing something here?

If I am wrong, point out where. You may disagree with me that it is tough luck, tough love for investors, and I think that playing your violins for the retirees might work on some but these retiree were either of sound mind when they invested and knew that it’s a gamble and there is always a chance of bankruptcy, or they were senile and were exploited and then they can sue those who took advantage of their senility.

I don’t believe in coddling investors. If I invest, I realize it’s a risk. I don’t expect the gov’t to come to my rescue if it doesn’t work out. Funny how some people can cry about the bailouts and then cry when investors aren’t bailed out.

BOO HOO to those who lost out. I hope they have something left to gnaw on and if not, I hope their families or churches will help them.

This must have been a difficult decision for all involved. I don’t think dumb or stupid is really an accurate description of why this didn’t got the way most of you would like.

Can’t have it both ways Rose. The UAW got to keep their contract. Obama has his favorites.

  86. rosehips says:

yeah, well if I were to choose between workers and investors, I’d choose the workers. Those UAW contracts need to be renegotiated too.

As foxy said, you can’t have it both ways. Do we want to protect our law abiding citizens from potential harm? Should we ignore groups who have the potential to conspire to do illegal acts to undermine the gov’t? How can we identify these potential threats without analysis????

Obama is destined for the history books without a doubt. and good morning vf, m2 et al!

  122. rosehips says:

and hi foxy…thanks for the wake up! it’s not quite 5 am but I’ve been up for a while. no rest for the wicked, i guess.

  123. VotingFemale says:

    Rose, to address your questions.

In the event of Chrysler’s bankruptcy, they did not have to go into bankruptcy… had Obama paid off their debt. He chose not to do that and instead use strong armed tactics to force people who had loaned money to Chrysler to separate them from as much of their money as he could.

In a bankruptcy like this one, there are assets worth money. It would be like you declaring bankruptcy and owning a shopping mall.

You are declaring you can not pay the lenders to whom you are in debt because your shopping mall costs more to run that it makes and is not getting to get to a point of breaking even again because your credit payments are eating up too much of your income from the strip mall.

In bankruptcy court, your assets are not yours they belong to your creditors and the assets are divided up amongst your creditors according to law.

Generally, sale of assets yields less than the money owed to all the creditors not just some of them, thus some creditors are not awarded 100 cents on the dollars while other creditors get little or nothing.

The court figures out what is equitable as far as paying off the creditors and in the case of Chrysler, that calculation is about 50 cents on the dollar.

There is also creditor ranking system according to the law to cover the case that some creditors rightfully deserve more cents on the dollar than other creditors.

What Barack is doing is working out something where some assets are sold and the rest of the debt is paid by the government in order to keep Chrysler in business.

And part of the company is given away for nothing to a foreign automaker, Fiat.

Barack is acting as a new owner of Chrysler and working to force creditors to take 30 cents on the dollar instead of 50 cents on the dollar to force them to take a loss so he can buy into Chrysler for less money.

Now here comes the main issue of this situation… Barack is using threats of ruining the creditors balking at being short changed by using threats of turning lose the Presidential Press Corps on them to ruin their reputations in the press to ruin their companies thus force these investment firms out of business.

The problem with this is that it is highly illegal and is extortion… it is Chicago style gangland mob tactics. This is not Chicago.

It also highlights the fact that the MEDIA is an Arm of the Government who is directed at the Whim of the President as a tactical force of harm to exert his will.

Do you wonder why the White House has been back peddling and saying “We Did Not Do That?”

Because Barack has just discovered he is answerable to the rule of law… and if proven he used these strong armed tactics, he is in serious trouble.

He can not do anything he wants… the law applies to him. And in his arrogance he stepped into a tiger trap of his own making.

  124. m2elena says:

The only false message that has every been “dressed” to “sell” is the liberal-socialist message. time and time again. Even Obama had to re-dress his package in order to win. And it wasn’t liberalism, but conservatism that made people believe in him. All lies of course, but throughout history, it repeats itself. Such is the everlasting struggle for individual freedom from tyranny.

rosehips says: Obama is destined for the history books without a doubt. And then Barack Obama gave an evasive answer where he didn’t commit to cutting back any programs (education, health) etc.

And now here we are with 9 trillion projected, 4.7-ish trillion concretely spent, no re-haul in “education” or “healthcare” yet. And Social Security about to belly up. Yet Barack can’t name that wild card, b/c it will prove to Americans that Government programs Fail.

To condemn a leader for actions is unfair. I think we need to judge our leaders by how they react to the indescretions of their underlings. To jump on an accusation that has not been proven sets you up for a dish of crow. But somehow that part of the story doesn’t ever get coverage.

But strong arm tactics aside, the title of this post suggests that Obama is attacking retirees. That is deceiving. Let’s just call a spade a spade. Are we supposed to look at the work status of every investor before we decide to bail them out or not? Should the fact that I am unemployed be figured into any bailout that I will profit from? I think all investors should be treated equally. If you play the game, you should understand that some win, some lose.

Rose ,the pundants are still on hopium. The reality of the situation is that this country is losing 600, 000 jobs a month and that equals 7.2 milllion jobs a year. The unemployment number of 8 percent is a lie because they don’t count you after you stop receiving benefits so I believe the real number is between 10 and 13 percent. The economy is not going to turn around anytime soon becasue obama and co are going to drive it into the ditch further. The people in this country are going to run out of patience and obama is going to run out of time.

I did miss that comment, Rose… and stand corrected for thinking you did not respond.

Now… let me address your point. The companies who loaned money to Chyrsler have been labled by Barack Obama as “speculators” and he said “he would stand with them.” That is code for “he will stand against them.”

This is an attack on these creditors… it is a character assassination and is a lie.

These lenders are every day investors who, among other reasons are investing their hard earned money for their retirement managed by money market managers… so-called “hedge funds.”

Obama has chosen to short change these people in favor of preferential treatment of the UAW who are also creditors of Chysler. Obama has set it up so the UAW Gets 50 Cents on the Dollar and these other creditors get 30 Cents on the Dollar. And these other creditors are at the front of the line, under the law, to get 50 Cents on the Dollar. Obama has painted a false picture that the creditors he attacks were holding out for 100 Cents on the dollar and were not willing to “share the pain.” That was a bald faced lie.
They agreed to 50 Cents on the Dollar just like the UAW did… and Obama is forcing them to eat a 20% greater loss than the UAW creditors.

And Obama is capitalizing on the complexity of this situation to gain public support… you yourself said you didn’t understand it but by default you give Obama a pass prior to our discussion.

That you are willing to spend the time to better understand the situation is to your credit.

Obama’s behavior sends a chilling effect through out the investment community… and likely makes investors not even want to invest in any company coming under the Control of Obama.

And for the record… President Reagan “bailed out Chrysler” back in the 1979. And he did not get up their ass as a price for that bailout.
Reagan let the free market system do what it does… and Lido Anthony “Lee” Iacocca, the CEO of Chrysler at the time, paid back every cent borrowed from the US Tax Payers.

    from Wiki FWTW:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Iacocca

    1979 Auto Bailout

Realizing that the company would go out of business if it did not receive a significant amount of money to turn the company around, Iacocca approached the United States Congress in 1979 and asked for a loan guarantee. While some have said that Congress lent Chrysler the money, the government, in fact, only guaranteed the loans. Most observers thought this was an unprecedented move, but Iacocca pointed to the government bailouts of the airline and railroad industries, arguing that more jobs were at stake in Chrysler’s possible demise. In the end, though the decision was controversial, Iacocca received the loan guarantee from the government.

After receiving this reprieve, Chrysler released the first of the K-Car line, the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant, in 1981. Like the minivan which would come later, these compact automobiles were based on design proposals that Ford had rejected during Iacocca’s (and Sperlich’s) tenure there. Since they were released in the middle of the major 1980-1982 recession, these small, efficient and inexpensive, front-wheel drive cars sold rapidly.

Chrysler introduced the minivan, which was by and large Sperlich’s “baby,” in the fall of 1983, which led the automobile industry in sales for 25 years[3] Because of the K-cars and minivans, along with the reforms Iacocca implemented, the company turned around quickly and was able to repay the government-backed loans seven years earlier than expected.

Iacocca was also responsible for Chrysler’s acquisition of AMC in 1987, which brought the profitable Jeep division under Chrysler’s corporate umbrella. It also created the short-lived Eagle division, formed from the remnants of AMC. By this time, AMC had already finished most of the work with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which Iacocca desperately wanted. The Grand Cherokee would not be released until 1992 for the 1993 model year, the same year that Iacocca retired.

Throughout the 1980s, Iacocca appeared in a series of commercials for the company’s vehicles, using the ad campaign “The pride is back” to denote the turnaround of the corporation, while also telling buyers a phrase that later became his trademark: “If you can find a better car, buy it.”

Rosehips wrote: But strong arm tactics aside, the title of this post suggests that Obama is attacking retirees. That is deceiving. Let’s just call a spade a spade. Are we supposed to look at the work status of every investor before we decide to bail them out or not? Should the fact that I am unemployed be figured into any bailout that I will profit from? I think all investors should be treated equally. If you play the game, you should understand that some win, some lose.

from wiki: Hedge funds are typically open only to a limited range of professional or wealthy investors. This provides them with an exemption in many jurisdictions from regulations governing short selling, derivative contracts, leverage, fee structures and the liquidity of interests in the fund. A hedge fund will typically commit itself to a particular investment strategy, investment types and leverage levels via statements in its offering documentation, thereby giving investors some indication of the nature of the fund.

I don’t think pensions should be guaranteed. Maybe the auto industry should go into the business of providing retirement homes for aging auto workers. I think the rec room could have a nascar theme and there could be hot wheels and model kits for them to play with. Forget about lounging on a Florida beach after 30 years of work. That type of bennie needs to be relegated to the history books under the catagory “American Follies of the 20th Century”

In the matter of investors, it matters not who or what the UAW is or does for a living nor does it have anything to do with their behavior as a labor union. That is a separate thing all together from the matter of Chrysler Creditors.

That the UAW is in part responsible for the problems of Chrysler which has brought the company to bankruptcy is not a topic of this post and is deflection to discuss it and I ask that not be done. Save it for a discussion of UAW as a union… not as an investor.

We need to protect workers from exploitation and unfair labor practices. This can be regulated without requiring labor contracts. Just make it the law to treat labor fairly and let the markets do the rest.
I’ve only been in a union once and I made an insane amount of money for the work that I did. It was in the kitchen a nursing home, totally unskilled labor. I was 19 yrs old and making $4.50/hr (in 1976) and on holidays I made $11/hr. No wonder nursing homes are so expensive! geesh.

I am of the opinion that Obama is a white hating racist thus I look for factual substantiation to prove it factually.

I believe OJ Simpson killed his wife… it was not proven to be a fact to the jury and the jury found him not guilty in a legal court of law.

That is how it goes… but that bastard now sits in a prison cell today… because he was factually proven to have broken a set of laws to a new jury in a different case.

I’ve only been in a union once and I made an insane amount of money for the work that I did. It was in the kitchen a nursing home, totally unskilled labor. I was 19 yrs old and making $4.50/hr (in 1976) and on holidays I made $11/hr. No wonder nursing homes are so expensive! geesh.

  237. rosehips says:

I say give the creepy aig execs their bonuses. But Chrysler is bankrupt and the hedge fund investors lost. done deal. They can whine all they want but I don’t believe they have a legal standing to get what they want. They should take what they are given and be glad that they didn’t pay full price for their investements. Boo Hoo Hoo to hedge fund investors. Your greed put you in this position. You could have taken 29 cents on your 30 cent investment. I hope you get what you deserve…which in my opinion is not what you are hoping for. I will not lose sleep over your losses. There are a lot of other Americans who deserve my pity.

  238. Indycoltsfan says:

The difference between chrysler then and chrysler now was lee iaccoca. He turned the company around with his grand vision of selling cars that the public actually needed during the 80’s recession. The government loaned the money to chrysler then and is they just gave chysler money this time.

It might work during good times, but it hasn’t proven to be failsafe. It’s not perfect and I think it shouldn’t be depended on to fix our economy. I think it has proven to be too vulnerable to corruption and greed and exploitation of the environment. Too many business decisions are made with only profits in mind. What measures are in place to make corporations responsible for their actions? Not enough, imo.

so the debate is whether obama did this for personal gain, to help his big supporter the uaw

i guess it comes down to one’s opinion of obama as to whether it’s number one or two, although anyone who knows politics would suspect the first

now, contracts do get broken and renegotiated every day

obviously there’s a whole bunch of contracts in the private sector that aren’t going to be honored anymore. what do we do about all of those?

  246. Foxwood says:

You can’t break the law because you don’t like the law. there are provisions in the Constitution, but the Obama administration says hell with the Constitution. It’s in the way.

  247. rosehips says:

Corporate America has villians and heros…
sort it out… Corporate America, like government, needs rules by which to do their thing… and corporations, in general, which are mismanaged deserve their inevitable fate… just like politicians and political parties managed by politicians who mismanage.

There is a difference between pork barrel spending on pork barrel limited duration projects “to make work” as opposed to government investments on such things as research grants to stimulate new sources of business that companies can enter to ..so that “for profit” businesses will hire employees… where both employees and companies pay taxes based on income not otherwise earned.

    Case in point:

Al Gore saw the merit of providing a government grant to stimulate research which would in turn stimulate entrapranures to start companies doing business in ways never done before.

What was that business? The internet.
Gore did not invent the internet… but he took too much direct credit for it… but it is true he headed a congressional panel which granted seed money which did lead to the internet commercial boom.

That!!! Is government correctly spending money to help companies create jobs.

Banks returning bailouts will face conditions
Banks must shed FDIC guarantees if they want to return bailout funds
    Jim Kuhnhenn, Associated Press Writer
On Wednesday May 6, 2009, 7:36 am EDT
Buzz up! Print WASHINGTON (AP) — Banks that want to pay back their federal bailout funds and free themselves from government restrictions on compensation and dividends will have to sever their ties to another financial assistance program.

Financial firms eager to return infusions from the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program will have to demonstrate that they can operate without debt guarantees provided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., a senior government official said Tuesday. The FDIC program allows financial institutions to borrow money at lower costs.

The new requirement will make it harder for some institutions to get out from under government rules attached to the bailouts, another shift in a changing landscape for banks. It also illustrates the government’s desire not to have banks abandon the bailout program if they are not financially prepared to do so.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the standards have not been made public. The Treasury and the Federal Reserve are expected to issue TARP repayment guidelines on Wednesday, a response to banks that want to get out from under bailout conditions. The change was first reported Tuesday evening by The Wall Street Journal.

By linking the two programs, the government could motivate banks to cut themselves off from the various assistance programs that it put in place to unclog credit and free up lending in the midst of the financial crisis.

The bailout program has been unpopular in Congress and prompted a new round of conditions earlier this year following news reports about lavish spending on perks, retreats and corporate planes.

Initially, the government required banks that wanted to repay early to raise money from the private sector. Then Congress eased that rule but attached greater restrictions on the government funds. Among the rules restricting banks were conditions on employee compensation, bonuses and dividend payouts. Congress also required the Treasury to review previous compensation payments.

The FDIC debt guarantee, meanwhile, has proven to be popular with some banks as a way to increase liquidity and does not impose the same restrictions as TARP. So far, banks have issued more than $330 billion under the program, which the FDIC launched in October to help financial institutions finance themselves and make loans.

“It throws a hurdle as far as the banks repaying TARP,” Scott Talbott, a senior lobbyist for the Financial Services Roundtable, a bank industry group, said of the new condition.

Banks have become increasingly wary of the bailout funds, chafing at the restrictions and worried that acceptance of the money somehow tagged them as troubled institutions. As a result, a handful of banks have returned a small amount of money and bigger institutions have indicated a desire to repay.

Banking industry consultant Bert Ely said requiring banks to first show an ability to operate without the FDIC guarantees does complicate their payback of TARP money. But he said it also demonstrates a change in the Federal Reserve’s and the Treasury’s approach to TARP.

“A couple of weeks ago it was, ‘Oh, we don’t know if want to let you repay,'” he said. “There’s been a reversal of position here as far as I’m concerned. It will be interesting to see how fast banks move in that direction.”

The Federal Reserve and the Treasury are expected to announce the new payback standards just ahead of Thursday’s planned release of the results of “stress tests” on the country’s top 19 financial institution.

The tests gauged the ability of the banks to weather an even deeper economic crisis than the country currently faces. Several of the 19 banks will be asked to seek additional capital.

Those banks will have six months to raise money from private investors, sell off assets or tap what remains of the $700 billion TARP.

    To me…
    The way I see it…
    As I understand…

    and other such qualifying phrases…

I work hard NOT to voice my opinions as facts… and will thank anyone who catches me doing that and rightfully calls me on it… feel free to nail me on it if you catch me doing that… and I will happily return the favor when I catch you doing it.

I happen to be an expert at button pushing… and often will do it to make an opponent go postal… thus lose a debate.

You are fairly warned of this… so word to the wise, dear.

I want and enjoy you having differences of views… it stimulating and good to get all sides of an issue out in the open.

Senate strips Specter of seniority after party switch
    Posted: 11:17 AM ET

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter has lost his seniority on Senate committees after recently switching parties.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Arlen Specter was in the driver’s seat when the Senate Judiciary Committee grilled the two newest Supreme Court justices back in 2005, but the Pennsylvania senator won’t be front and center next time.

Specter jumped from the Republican party to the Democratic party last week, putting the Democrats within reach of a 60-seat “supermajority” that could make it all but impossible for Republicans to block Democratic legislation.

On Tuesday the Senate confirmed that the party switch dropped him to the bottom of the heap in terms of seniority.

That means he will be the very last to speak when the Judiciary Committee questions President Barack Obama’s yet-to-be-named nominee to replace Justice
David Souter — after even Sen. Ted Kaufman of Delaware, who has been a senator for all of four months.

In fact, only two of the 18 other senators on the committee have been in the upper house longer than Specter — and he has been in the Senate longer than seven other committee members put together.

But there is more at stake than Specter’s ego or bragging rights.

The old saw “rank hath its privileges” holds true in the U.S. Senate as in few other places. With seniority comes the ability to influence legislation.

Specter lost his seniority on other committees as well, including the powerful Appropriations Committee — the one that doles out money. He’s now junior to Montana’s Sen. Jon Tester, who has been in the Senate since 2007.

Specter has been citing his seniority on the Appropriations Committee as he hits the campaign trail as a Democrat.

“My senior position on appropriations has enabled me to bring a lot of jobs and a lot of federal funding to this state,” Specter said at a town hall meeting on Monday.

Over and over, he made a point of telling an auditorium filled with medical faculty and staff about the hundreds of millions of dollars he delivered to the Keystone State, thanks to the power he’s accumulated in his 29 years in the Senate.

“Pennsylvania has a big interest in my seniority, a big interest,” he said.

A day later, the Senate has stripped him of that seniority. The resolution, which set out committee assignments for the entire Senate, was approved on a unanimous voice vote.

While spanking postal iTrolls can be fun… it is a humorous diversion and not why I choose to blog. That they go postal and make it personal makes them losers. I often tried to get some of them to get off that track… and some of them did get off it. one of them was nan00… who at one time threatened me physically… but that was because of her anger and she later apologized for it. We found a way to agree to disagree… and to me that is far more productive than simple button pushing of Trolls who are too simple minded to debate.

Now, rosehips will tell you… I admire the art of artful sarcasm! And there is a difference between that and personal attacks.

Another thing the iTrolls never seemed to grasp… there is a difference between calling Obama a name… like DUMBASS, and calling a fellow debater/commentor a dumbass.

Political Figures are fair game… peers are not fair game when it comes to personal attacks.

VF – for what it’s worth

    Bill said
many of the topics in here are absolutely conspiracy theories

    VF –

i think you got a bit offended because you interpreted this comment to mean that i was saying your POST topics are conspiracy theories…..which is not the case

if you care to look back to what m2 and i were saying to each other, she brought up conspiracy theories regarding yesterday’s conversation her and i had about the fairness doctrine. the reference had nothing to do with the subject of your posts, but rather SOME of the thinking she was asserting while talking about the fairness doctrine.

    m2 said

I never needed to know what you were for. I don’t think rosehips is for the same ideas I have, and I respect her. I respect you regardless of what you are “for”.

As far as the fairness doctrine, I formulated an opinion/stance based on prior ‘research’ and I believe you considered my opinion baseless and “conspiracy”… so I just wanted to know what you thought about the fairness doctrine. I think that forming a position on something based on research should not be dismissed as ‘baseless partisan conspiracy’… So. Ok, cool.

You can be a Labour Party supporter living in the U.S. for all I care. I only care when someone dismisses my POV, without reason.

    then, Bill said

you seem to take the things i write about conservatives personally

many of the topics in here are absolutely conspiracy theories that you are a participant in….if that means you think i dismiss your ideas or opinions when i refuse to buy into it….then i’d repeat i think you’re taking it too personally

    free thinking kicks ass

    VF –

even though m2 misunderstood what i had said yesterday, and accused me of disregarding her opinion, you can see the context of the conversation that brought it up

and VF….in all fairness, i think you’ll find “i/m/o” in many of my comments where it seems appropriate

i’ve been having fun here…would like to keep it that way

Party Switch Costs Specter His Seniority on Senate Committees

    By Paul Kane
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Wednesday, May 6, 2009

The Senate last night stripped Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) of his seniority on committees, a week after the 29-year veteran of the chamber quit the Republican Party to join the Democrats.

In announcing his move across the aisle last week, Specter asserted that Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) had assured him he would retain his seniority in the Senate and on the five committees on which he serves. Specter’s tenure ranked him ahead of all but seven Democrats.

Instead, though, on a voice vote last night, the Senate approved a resolution that made Specter the most junior Democrat on four committees for the remainder of this Congress. (He will rank second from last on the fifth, the Special Committee on Aging.) Reid himself read the resolution on the Senate floor, underscoring the reversal.

Democrats have suggested that they will consider revisiting Specter’s seniority claim at the committee level only after next year’s midterm elections.

“This is all going to be negotiated next Congress,” Jim Manley, a Reid spokesman, said last night.

I am going to do a little education for folks who are not in the know here… so bear with me…

The term Uncle Remus is a pejorative term for African Americans usually used by one African American against another African American such as a Liberal African American against a conservative African American and is meant as an insult and a slur that the conservative African American is sucking up to White Folks and turning their back on the Black Community.

Now with that explained… let’s move forward and if someone is going to use that phrase let it be a liberal against a conservative and let that liberal receive a shit storm from all conservative for it… for they are attacking one of us conservatives and being racist at the same time.

  430. ohiobelle says:

Bill, you’re correct but without the papers nothing matters. Pelosi was apart of the “Gang of Four” even though she denies it.

U.S. law requires the CIA to inform Congress of covert activities and allows the briefings to be limited in certain highly sensitive cases to a “Gang of Eight,” including the four top congressional leaders of both parties as well as the four senior intelligence committee members. In this case, most briefings about detainee programs were limited to the “Gang of Four,” the top Republican and Democrat on the two committees. A few staff members were permitted to attend some of the briefings.

  431. ohiobelle says:

It was the few staff members that attended the 30 briefings that called her out. She still continues with her lies. I don’t get it.

  475. ohiobelle says:

    Indy here you go.

1,000 Pounds of high-grade nitrate fertilizer was stolen from company in Alabama…

Burglars targeted a Tuscumbia business early Thursday morning. What’s most alarming is what the thieves took from business. The stolen property is potential dangerous material.

Approximately 1,000 pounds of high-grade nitrate fertilizer was taken from Greens Keepers on Gann Boulevard in Tuscumbia. The company handles fertilization and weed control for residential and commercial lawns. The owner, John Wagner, says he’s been in business for twelve years and nothing like this has ever happened.

“It’s very unusual,” says Wagner. “It was a very big shock to walk in at 7:00 a.m. and see all this gone.”

Sometime early Thursday morning, burglars broke in the business. First, they tried to bust through this glass window in the front of the building. When that didn’t work, police say the crooks pried open the side door.

“It appears that 25 to 30 bags of high-grade nitrate fertilizer was taken off the premises,” explains Wagner.

The thieves stacked the bags of fertilizer onto one of the company trucks, attached a trailer to the back, and loaded a lawn mower on it. The crooks also rummaged through the office – grabbing two computers, an iPod, and a cordless phone.

The stolen property is valued at several thousand dollars. For Wagner, that’s not the most unsettling part.

“The cost of the fertilizer is not the issue, it’s the quantity and the potential for bad guys,” explains Wagner. ”

Wagner worries that having the large amount of fertilizer in the wrong hands could lead to something very dangerous.

“It could potentially be made into a bomb,” says Wagner.

Tuscumbia police say as the burglars were driving off, the trailer, lawn mower, and some fertilizer fell off somewhere on King Street. Shortly after that, investigators say the burglars abandoned the truck on Sterling Boulevard.

The truck and trailer were returned to Greens Keepers. Police are still on the hunt for the fertilizer and the people responsible for taking it.

Right now, the Tuscumbia Police Department does not have any suspects and is asking for the public’s help to develop some leads. If you have any information about the crime or know where the fertilizer may be, call the Shoals Area CrimeStoppers at (256) 386 – 8685

Lisa I used to have a progressive press with dies for both 45 and 40 cal but I got rid of it and I am sorry I did, I might check ebay to see if there are any Dillion 550’s on there, you can pump out 1000 rounds in a couple of hours.

  512. LisaInTX says:

Oldschools latest rant report is just MORE rabid Left bullcrap. I had thought MUCH better of him than that and it was a disappointment to see even him regress back into slavery and throwing the ‘Ninja” race card.

  513. ohiobelle says:

Karma, hahhahahahahaha!!!! LMAO! Well they know now… iTroll will be reporting that soon enough.

Karma wrote: Well I will show them I can swing the bat both lefty and righty LOL, I have my Irish walking stick at the front door, a hickory ax handle with a tether and grip tape on it…

  514. karmahd says:

Lisa and Ohio, I think Oldskool is being used, he seems like a sharp kid, I cannot understand the motive for this unless he is being coached. This has nothing to do with race, or at least it does not to me, and I think most people feel that way. I live by the creed, green is the only color I see, you start to mess with that and you will hear about it!!

  515. ohiobelle says:

The iTrolls would feed on their young to continue their hateful ways on iCry…

  516. LisaInTX says:

    Karma
Cool!! Hope you find another one.
My husband was using another brand called “Wolfe” i think and it sure dirtied up his barrel….cheap ammo sucks so he has used ONLY brass casings since then.
As to making our own ammo—I remember my dad doing that, but that was only like 40 years ago..lol…he also showed me how to churn home made butter and I can’t remember that either..hahaha….time to start re-learning the things I’ve forgotten over the years…heeee

  517. karmahd says:

Hey all the blowhards on Ireport are not honest, they hide behind avatars, they create new avatars when they are banned, they have no honor, they do not wish to debate they wish to tell and yell, that just is not productive, they are not interested in there country, they want what they feel is there’s and do not wish to sacrifice to get it, they want the world handed to them and they have bought into the snakeoil salesman “The Prince” Mr. Mac Daddy, he will take from the rich and give to the disinfranchised!!!

  518. ohiobelle says:

I am trying to remember who oldschool is… does his picture have his dog in it??

  519. rosehips says:

karma, shoot off to the gym so soon. I missed you and you missed all the fun!

  520. karmahd says:

Hey Lisa Wolf is some of the best cheap ammo you can get, the power is dirty but I used to shoot a lot and competitive at one point and I could hit 1.5 at 25 yrds consistently with my 45 with that stuff. You cant find it anywhere around here!!

  521. ohiobelle says:

Is oldschools avatar a picture of him holding his dog??

  522. karmahd says:

Hey Rose I do have to hit the hoops, (weights) I will be back on later, just wanted to offer some fodder for the trolls!!!

  523. rosehips says:

just saw an article in my local paper saying that ammo has been sold out here.

  524. rosehips says:

ok, karma….work hard so you can come back and play hard with us!

  525. LisaInTX says:

It fired great and consistent, but left the barrel soooo dirty. Joe had to clean it after every practice….he is really just being ‘lazy’ IMO and thought that the cheaper one made it just too dirty…LOL…It was recommended at the spoorting good store where we bought it.
    Oopps………BECK is on folks…gotta run..

  526. karmahd says:

Yeah I know Rose, I think Oldschool has had several avatars, his most current is a picture of him. I actually thought he was level headed and progressive until I saw the hate post??? Does not make sense??

  527. ohiobelle says:

Beck is on… I’ll be back.

  528. ohiobelle says:

If oldschool is the guy I am thinking of.. avatar was him holding his dog then I’ve never had any problems with him. Kind of upsets me that he’s changed. I liked talking to him, if it’s the person I am thinking of. I’ll check it out.

  529. Foxwood says:

    Damn Karma,

I keep waiting, but your still here. We can’t talk bad about you till you leave. 🙂

“And howdy all, got off work early, usually when I come on everyone leaves!!!”

  530. ohiobelle says:

Lisa, Thank you for sending that link. I don’t think it is oldschool that I am thinking of. Maybe butterfly66?? I am still looking on iCry.

  531. Foxwood says:

    Lisa, Karma,

Montana is passing the law I was talking about yesterday. Texas is in the process. They are removing gun regulation. Montana says, if the Feds have anything to say about it, they will secede.

  536. Foxwood says:

The guy was a real pr*ck. Someone needed to punch him out. Yeah, I know. Wouldn’t prove anything, but it would be cathartic.

  537. Foxwood says:

I’ll be in and out also. Gotta cook.

  538. LisaInTX says:

    Fox
Thanks for the info. That sounds like a REAL plan that Montana has going….And even better once Texas follows suit with them!!
After all the insults from the “Dem Admin”…I’m ready for whatever our state decides to do either way!!!!!!!!
    LOL@being a dental floss tycoon…hahahaaaa

  539. LisaInTX says:

I trust my STATE government over the Fed’s now….the lying political blame spewing bastards and bitches can KISS MY A$$…..and after today, they can KISS MY ELEPHANTS ASS!! They have drawn the line of which there is NO return, IMO.

The Dem party is a TOTAL LOSS to those that used to believe in it!
Clinton was on an apology mission today for something that the USA had not been verified in even doing in Afganistan!!! They are setting our troops up for a horrible death over there….and it breaks my heart. My son is over there fighting for a government administration that HATES HIS GUTS and he doesn’t even know it!!
I can’t say any of this on the phone for fear THEY are listening and will hurt him some way….this just makes me SICK!!!!

  547. rosehips says:

  548. Foxwood says:

  549. LisaInTX says:

    Rose

  550. LisaInTX says:

    Hubby home–gotta run–BBL

  551. rosehips says:

lisa, I did try back then but they were sold out. oh well…

  552. Foxwood says:

Speaking of Zappa and the Mutha’s (earlier)
Smoke on the Water – Deep Purple from the album Machine Head (1972)
Ian Gillan was the lead voice for Deep Purple and also sang as Jesus in the 1970 album Jesus Christ Superstar. Later was replace in the play by Ted Neeley.

  553. Oh my gosh, what a stinking corrupt, deadbeat mafia wannabe. Who elected this goofball anyway? He just totally makes me SICK!

Plus you guys know the WHITE HOUSE threatend Chrysler! see my post on that one. disgusting!

  554. rosehips says:

ahhh deep purple…brings back vivid memories foxy. well, maybe not exactly vivid.

  555. gosh, what happened on my head? there’s fire in the sky?

  556. Foxwood says:

Wow… Never thought of playing Smoke on the Water with a violin although I did play Ironman on it once.

  557. Foxwood says:

    Don’t take the brown acid…

  558. never, only colorful.

  559. Foxwood says:

    Warrantonegirl,

  560. Foxwood says:

Look out. Napoleon is going to take your puppies. They will come back to bite you.

    Debt and Servitude

  561. LisaInTX says:

    Karma
Thanks for the Wolf site. :-} We must have bought the ‘BiMetal” jackets… they had black casings not the shiny brass or copper.

  562. LisaInTX says:

    Foxwood
    Great post!! I left you a comment too. ;-}

  563. Indycoltsfan says:

Hello All. Some of you are talking guns tonight. You got ot check out this bad ass shotgun.

  564. LisaInTX says:

    Rose
Most of the local gun shops can order the shells for you….least the ones here do.
I’d order some just to have them on hand personally. It took several weeks to get bullets for an old 38 Colt that my husband inherited from his grandfather. It was made in 1908 and is in mint condition!!

  565. Indycoltsfan says:

Hi Lisa! Check out my bad ass shotgun video.

  566. rosehips says:

lol indy, just when we wean ourselves of foreign oil, when our cars run on alternatives and we convert all gas powered engines to biofuels and electricity and hydrogen and air, we’ll need to still invade oil rich countries to operate the guns that will kill the people in the countries where we want the oil to power the guns to …well, you see where im going with this, eh? lol. that is one scary gun.
Has anyone mentioned the story about how Blackwater guards asked a contractor to dump the guns used to kill innocent civilians? Bad Blackwater, bad boys.

  567. Indycoltsfan says:

Hi Rose, How are you? It seems everyone else is awol. LOL!

  568. LisaInTX says:

    Indy
    HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I’m REALLY worried!! What IF ObamaNation gets that weapon and uses it against the people???? HOLY CRAP!!
My husband watched the video too and he freaked out and wants one now!! LOL…..I’ve never seen a shotgun fire like that—no recoil????WOW….300 rounds a minute???HOLY MOO COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  569. LisaInTX says:

    Rose
You didn’t watch the WHOLE video—that weapon is made of several different metals including stainless steel and has ZERO maintenance!!
That is the MOST SCARIEST WEAPON I’ve ever seen personally. The power of a shotgun with the capacity to fire 300 rounds per minute!!! It is meant for nothing but death!! Take NO PRISONERS….HOLY COW!!

  570. Indycoltsfan says:

Lisa, Check this out. This gun will kick some ass too.

  571. LisaInTX says:

And that is not the whole story—it can also fire grenade like shells that explode into a rain of shrapnel….and are also armor piercing to boot!! HOLY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COW!!!!!

  572. Foxwood says:

Still here… just doing research. Oh, and watching that dastardly Sherman on the history channel.

  573. Indycoltsfan says:

Yea Lisa, It’s the ultimate home defense weapon. LOL!If I pointed that weapon at a terrorist and it wouldn’t be long before you would see the turd balls rolling down their pant legs. LOL!

  574. LisaInTX says:

I would say that is a FULL Automatic that just shot off about 100 rounds in less than 20 seconds!
I’ll stay conservative with the semi-auto thank you….lol They were having way too much fun with their deadly toys, sounded like…

  575. rosehips says:

lisa, no I didn’t watch the whole thing. it is scary and I really don’t get excited over killing machines. they make me feel kinda sad. Especially knowing how excited people get over them and that they actually are thinking about killing their own fellow citizens. sigh.

  576. Indycoltsfan says:

Just think. The aa-12 is a deer hunters dream gun. You could take out a whole heard in one trigger pull. LOL! That would be too easy and kind of take the sport out of it. LOL!

  577. LisaInTX says:

    Foxwood
That’s right!! Sherman was on tonight and I was gonna watch that. Have they decided if he was a ‘bad’ guy or a ‘good’ guy?
I’ve always heard he was a murdering bastard that burned a trail thru the South in order to stop the south from getting supplies?? But as an adult, I heard he did that hoping to end the war sooner?

  578. Foxwood says:

    Forgot the 🙂

  579. LisaInTX says:

    Indy
No doubt the turd balls would flow freely like the Mississippi river!! LOL

  580. Indycoltsfan says:

rose, most gun enthusiast are not violent people and don’t want to hurt anyone. I am not a gun enthusiast but I do like to shoot holes in paper targets.

  581. Foxwood says:

Ed Herman did the comments. That said, he appears to be the A bomb of the Civil War. He wanted to end the war fast, with minimum casualties. Depends on what side your on whether he was good or evil.

  582. VF girl, just keep these posts rolling out and notifying the public about what a scum bag he is.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.!

  583. LisaInTX says:

    Rose
Hmmm…..so you are saying that people that watch videos that portray guns or weapons are REALLY wanting to only murder their fellow human beings? Should I be offend at this point or just pissed off to be classified as a blood thirty warmonger that wants to murder everyone human I meet?

  584. arlenearmy says:

This story further shows that Obama as thuggish and a mobster. When Obama fired GM CEO, I realized then that Obama was a big threat to private industry. Now he’s busting knee caps on Chrysler’s retirees & investors.

We’ve been getting several telemarketing phone calls about the Obama home re-mortgage plan. I g0t a feeling that he’s trying to nationalize every aspect of our lives. Instead of private home-ownership, every home might be considered as Section 8 housing because Obama want to own them all. All apartment might turn into welfare projects.

Well folks, we all will be FORCED to take welfare.

  585. LisaInTX says:

    foxwood
My family fought in the Civil war on both sides. It was a no win either way as I see it.
My grandfather on my fathers side fought for the South, not because he wanted too, but because the war erupted on top of them on their lands in the Lookout Mountain area of AL/GA.

  586. Indycoltsfan says:

Hi, Arlene. how are you? I hope we can rescue this country before it’s too late.

  587. LisaInTX says:

Hi Arlene!!! Good to hear fro you. You doing okay? How are things with your mom?

  588. arlenearmy says:

We got new Lowes home improvement credit card because we were gonna get a bigger bath tub. No interest if bill pay off in 12 months. We decided to not use that credit card for several reasons. We heard that Obama green bill will penalize folks if they get too big of a bath tub or jacuzzi. We might have to pay cash.

  589. LisaInTX says:

    Arlene
    LOL@ about the tub…..I’m with you–pay cash and let them sniff out your ‘terrorist feat’ of paying cash instead of charging it…heeee ;-}

  590. Foxwood says:

    Hey Arlene,
It looks like womb to the tomb. And they want to take your children as well. Get that public school indoctrination in as early as possible.

Got to go to bed. Work tomorrow.

  591. LisaInTX says:

WE did our home improvement in Oct 2007-Feb 08 and BOY am I glad we got that done before all hell broke loose!! I’d be really careful about ANY documents coming from this admin and have an atty read it over with a fine toothed comb before signing any of it! I have deep suspicions that the wording will remove private ownership from the individuals and put it into the gov ownership…..

  592. LisaInTX says:

Night Foxwood….Arlene, you should visit Foxwood’s new report….it was a GOOD ONE!!

  593. rosehips says:

lisa, sorry if I came off offensive. I don’t think I am thinking clear enough to explain. I was just reacting to how the video made ME feel. I should just stick to my own feelings and not project how other people feel or think. That’s not right of me. I feel sad when I see guns that are designed to kill humans and when I hear talk about gun violence within our own borders. it’s sad enough thinking about war overseas but it is getting closer and I don’t know if there is any way we can stop it from escalating. It just scares me.
Please don’t be pissed off or offended. I like you and I sure don’t want to be on your bad side. lol.

  594. LisaInTX says:

    Rose
Don’t sweat it girlfriend. That shotgun SHOCKED the snot out of me!! I’ve NEVER seen such a gun as that and it should scare anyone that comes in contact with it too. It is designed for ONLY one purpose. Like Indy said, it could take down a whole herd of deer in seconds, so imagine what it could do on the streets? Or in a war zone in close contact? Most bullets can be deflected or dodged, but not a scatter gun!
Anyway—-I hear ya about being scared…I am too. 😐 Not for myself, but for our country and our troops overseas.

  595. LisaInTX says:

    I’m headed to bed—Night everyone:-}

  596. karmahd says:

OK I am here everyone can leave now LOL. Guns are fun, I don’t hunt, but like Foxwood I like to shoot at targets, old cars, certain people, kidding, they have competitive shooting events where you can walk thorough a course of set up targets and situations. Very much like basic police training, its a lot of fun and can be stressful too, gets the heart pumping. Then there is always other training that can be fun, shooting targets at 250-1000 yards is a hoot. sorry I like to shoot, I will get off my rant, night all.

  597. Foxwood says:

    GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!

Earache my eye – Cheech and Chongs from the album Wedding Album (1974)

  598. rosehips says:

karma, I can understand how people like to shoot. I have done it just a couple times and I think I would be an awsome shot if I worked at it. If I can shoot guns anywhere near as good as I shoot baskets, I’d be a real “marksman”. Or is it “markswoman”?

Foxy, Cheech and Chong was the very first concert I ever went to in about 9th or 10th grade. We had front row seats in a “theater go round” which had a revolving stage. Cheech wore his tu tu and they played music and there was a distinct reefer smell emanating from the stage. Not sure if it was real, but it sure helped set the atmosphere. Cheech and Chong rocks! I’d like to see them again. I heard they are touring.

  599. VotingFemale says:

    Morning All!

    Hi Rose! Hi Fox!

have been busy this morning with a new blog post… it should be interesting. 😉

just proof reading it now and making editing changes…

    I will be along shortly!

  600. Foxwood says:

I’m trying to remember my first concert, but I skipped a groove again. I’m surprised my brain even functions. Think it was Steppenwolf. Nothing like seeing 500 drunk bikers singing “Born to be Wild”.

  601. rosehips says:

    hi vf!

funny foxy. I was lucky to live in the NY suburbs, so I got lots of ops to see lots of bands. I don’t know why I didn’t see more. I suppose it was a money thing…

  602. rosehips says:

did you say where you are from foxy? where did you grow up? live now?

  603. Foxwood says:

    Morning VF,

Gotta go girls. They need me at work. Get your motor runnin’,

  604. rosehips says:

I suppose I should visit your blog. maybe I can find out more about you. I noticed you visited mine but you were too hesitant to stay. or cautious. or cowardly. haha

  605. rosehips says:

bye foxy! talk ta ya later.

  606. rosehips says:

so foxy, you were/are a drunk biker?

  607. VotingFemale says:
